If you look at average home values going back from 1975 they have increased at a steady pace, but then in the early 2000's they skyrocketed. This was a combo of shady loan distribution, very low interested rates and a fed reserve chairman who really didnt like regulation.

The "housing bubble" was the result of the gov. not allowing the country to face a recession after the "internet bubble" burst from the Clinton admin. Who lowered interest rates? Who encouraged sub-prime lending? Who claimed Fannie & Freddie were solvent? Who allowed Madoff to practice his methods? All are examples of failed "oversight" by gov. Trickle down theory is great on paper but it fails in reality. The money from the upper class is supposed to drip down, supposed to be reinvested into the US economy. In reality it is being pooled elsewhere and invested overseas to never reach the bottom of where it is meant to go. There's no string attached and people can do whatever they want with the money. Government involvement is irrelevant. In fact, if government were to mandate what they can do with the money, it will work (communism)

When the US was heavily manufacture based, the country was able to attain the highest wages & at the same time create goods with the lowest prices around the world. But that has since changed and other countries around the world have continued to evolve. Investors place their money abroad because they like to have their money safe in solvent co. & where gov. don't tax them incessantly. Another example of a person misunderstanding economics.

The only reason we are in this crises now is due to a lack of oversight. Government could have prevented this.I dont buy that nobody saw this coming. We all knew it was just a matter of time before the housing bubble burst. If you look at average home values going back from 1975 they have increased at a steady pace, but then in the early 2000's they skyrocketed. This was a combo of shady loan distribution, very low interested rates and a fed reserve chairman who really didnt like regulation.

The "housing bubble" was the result of the gov. not allowing the country to face a recession after the "internet bubble" burst from the Clinton admin. Who lowered interest rates? Who encouraged sub-prime lending? Who claimed Fannie & Freddie were solvent? Who allowed Madoff to practice his methods? All are examples of failed "oversight" by gov. Please study up on the matters before commenting

I find it hard to believe that former SEC chair, Mr Cox had no idea about Madoff, and there has been legislation signed off on by both parties that contributed. Fannie/Freddie were not solvent, we can blame Barney Frank, but I cant excuse republicans like McCain who had lobbysists for Freddie/AIG on his election staff and was taking campaing cash from them. I know McCain spoke out against them, but actions speak louder. He should have returned the cash!
