I have one those wonderful Mosin/nagant Russian sniper rifles with the PU scope. Tula mfc. What IS accurate is when you watch the sniper close the bolt after cycling another round into chamber...It IS that stiff and takes effort. Looks like the whoever made this movie was confused. You see, it was the Russians who had over a million casualties at Stalingrad, and the Russians who executed over ten thousand of their own men. Well Croatians that participated at the killings in Jasenovac concentration camp were cold blooded murderers. Stalingrad was a moonscape full of thousands of burned out and destroyed buildings, streets were full of rubble and shell holes.I'm pretty sure that all plays a big role in all of this.

I have one those wonderful Mosin/nagant Russian sniper rifles with the PU scope. Tula mfc. What IS accurate is when you watch the sniper close the bolt after cycling another round into chamber...It IS that stiff and takes effort. I found myself feeling what it was like under fire to sometimes struggle with it. I may buy another though. Powerful cartridge 7.62 x 54R. Rimless.

And yes, officers were usually the ones to be issued MP40s, however, half the guys in this scene had them, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that most of the guys the Russians killed were regular grunts, and not officers? I mean, of course, there were the guys waving around their sidearms, but it didn't look discriminatory to me.

Its surprising that they suffered extensive damage as a people not once but twice within a 50 year period of time. Well Croatians that participated at the killings in Jasenovac concentration camp were cold blooded murderers. Stalin's troops were simply soldiers lead by enormous amounts of propaganda- which is why they were so violent. @IWASONCEAPLEBE Soviet Communism is hardly better then Nazi Fascist. Both end up killing millions of "undesirables". Don't forget, Russia's lost wars to such esteemed countries as Finland and Poland...(in the Modern age)

@Jochteas i'm not communist,but to say this you must be a fascist(trying to justify his own massacres) or a not well informed person(that's what i think).Nazism's objective was exactly what nazis tried to do.Communism's objective was completely different from what stalin did.Stalin used the word communism to establish his dictatorship,but basically he was more a fascist than a communist.Real communism was never applied in the history.So you can't judge it:it's quite simple

@romandef im Sorry, im a History Graduate working on my Masters, If pointing out Soviet genocide is being Fascist, then this discussion is over, Nazi fascism, and Soviet Communism where both deplorable and catastrophic to the people who were caught in there wake. Hitler did what you ascribed Stalin did, Used the word Fascism (from Mussolini) and established his dictatorship. Fact: Hitler killed 6 million Jews. Fact: Stalin killed 7 Million Ukrainians. Sorry buddy, History is history.

interesting conclusion:
99% of the people say: " its unreal " when russian snipers killed many germans.
99% say: " the germans had the best weapons during ww2 " when german snipers killed many russians.
So, by killing many were possible for germans but not for russians...

the concept of soviet troops sporting ghillies in world war 2 kind of makes me suspicious (aka they didn't use them) , but it's a great vid, nonetheless.

@XIIIphobos Chillies or not, but according to wikipedia ghillie suit was first used in Second Boer War.So its possible, that soviets could have chillie.I haven't researched the subject and i don't know what soviet or german snipers actually used to blend into environment :P

@cyberdaemon maybe so. in marksman school we were taught that ghillies aren't that good in an urban terrain, and it's better and easier to use a blending of grays on a "smooth" combat fatigue

@XIIIphobos But then again Stalingrad is not excactly a typical urban environment, i assume they trained you to fight in city like Baghdad mostly? Stalingrad was a moonscape full of thousands of burned out and destroyed buildings, streets were full of rubble and shell holes.I'm pretty sure that all plays a big role in all of this.
