I agree, a step backwards, Avira 8 and 9 were far better. Take a look at task manager before and during a scan. Extra microsoft processes msdtc.exe, dllhost.exe and vssvc.exe will appear during a scan and will remain after a scan has finished and Avira has closed. Don,t see this with Avast. Avira has managed to bloat itself and seems to need some microsoft processes to join it's company at scan time.
@itsabitwindy - It is a step backwards, of that there is little doubt as many users are switching to alternatives. Avast is faster and uses less processes and Avira's 'double scan' does it no justice either - too bloated for my liking :-)
@darysmer -Avira uses these Windows Processes but fails to remove them from running processes when scan has completed. It has effectively bloated Avira and turned many users away to other antivirus solutions :-)
@deadly1010P - Step back for Avira with its extended scans when removing a threat that it has found. Avira 9 was better and I'm quite happy using Avast 5 on one of my machines :-)
Nice display of multiple programs working together to remove the malware. Thanks for introducing Rkill, it looks like a decent program that I can add to my toolbox! =D
Btw, I would always recommend Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) if Avira fails and vice-versa, Avira if MSE fails. =)
@4DarkAces - Using multiple apps gives a good layered defense system and RKill is a very good program to add to a toolbox. I get panned for using MSE alongside an AV but it works and it works well without conflict :-)
@jesus272007 - I rarely ever say which is better or best as it also depends on the computer configuration and what suits the user who must be comfortable with the programs they are using :-)

aira10 and avast5 are great, but why does avira10 take a year to remove something.
i had avira9 for months but uninstalled it because the guard got disabled and never worked, so i went straight back to avast.

Very good video. Thanks cotojo.
Avira is a bit of a disappointement. Version 9 was considerably better.
Keep up the good work,
Jose.

@jossmartins - I agree Jose, V9 was better and this version is a step backwards, especially in its removal methods :-)
