    youtube.com/watch?v=9cEpiH5LvPo

  • like your teaching style mate

    clear and simple

    good stuff!

  • Anybody ever tell you " You have a remarkable resemblence to former University of Hawaii Quarterback, Colt Brennan"? I mean face it pal, you look just like him. Oh well, Anyways great lesson for a great song, peace out bro. and Thanks for your service.

  • @dannyt92548 bigtime

  • nice angels and airwaves shirt on the wall!

  • @DHbyker12 thanks, glad that you noticed that! AVA is such an awesome band. I saw them play live in Austin and Tom was great!

  • Thanks for posting! Great.

  • dude, get yourself a metronome, you suck at keeping time.

  • it wpuld of been a good but i dont no what b10 and all that is

  • Awesome. I love that song. My son is just starting to play the gituar, and I will show this to him. Thanks.

  • It was really cool to listen to u give instructions on this song. I'd swear u'r a music teacher, and this is on the side - a little extra, eh?

I love this song in general, and I'm very happy that I can play a little on my 8 year old son's starter guitar...

You are not a beginner's course, but you are a good teacher..

    down slap up, cool... thanks!

  • @collegechik39 thanks!! I actually just really enjoy playing music and helping people for fun. I'm glad that you enjoyed it and that it helped you out!

  • awesome vid man hope i can get your strum pattern figured out haha

  • Screw the Les Paul, is that a Guild d25-NT!!?

  • good lesson .....

  • wuts the fingering for the chord between the G chord and the e minor chord in the lead in?

  • only thing he's going is moving his top finger down a fret, it leads the chord down to the e minor. so on the top fret it would be 3(for the g chord) then 2(f#) and then open for the e minor.

  • great job! as a beginner this lesson really helps....maybe spend a little more time on the beginning lick, it was a little bit fats, but again i am a beginner, so it may jus be me. But thank you!

  • nice les paul on the wall dewd :D

  • Thanks! RIP Les Paul. Thank you for all that you have done in this world for music and rock and roll!!

  • i agree. les paul will live on for ever in the world of rock and roll.

    RIP Les Paul

  • thanks man!

  • outstanding lesson, marine

  • thank you! and no offense to the USMC but I'm US Army!!

  • I would like to say thanks for the video. My biggest problem with learning guitar is figuring out the strum patterns for any song. It doesn't help that tabs don't show it either. The fact that you actually showed the strum pattern is my favorite part of this.

  • this is nice. at the church i go to, all we play is the guitar and drums for the songs :)

  • Hey John! So I'm really just starting the guitar, like really really. I have always wanted to play this song, and I know I should just start basic and work my way up but I would really love to play this now. I was wondering what you mean when you say things like 7 5 or 8 5. thanks so much!

  • there just little chords that make it sound better

  • When I say things like 7 5 or 8 5 I'm trying to explain what note I'm playing but using tablature to explain it rather than an actual music note. So I might be playing on the b string 7th fret. That is just a single note. Then hold down the 8th fret on the b string. To be honest I don't read music I just try to figure out songs and if I cant I always resort to either youtube or tabs online. Hope this helps

  • great vid johnd. took some time for me to master the slapping, but i think i got it figured out now. for your next videoes, you should try to add like 1 part where you do the whole verse, just really slow, and really show where u change cords etc. that would help me anyways

  • thanks! I'll def try that out next time. I'm glad it helped! It's a tough skill to learn and master but once you do it adds a lot to your style and ability to make strumming patterns way more interesting because you can change the rhythm around and add some percussion if you are just playing by yourself

  • Hey thanks for the help

  • Thanks for this. I play guitar and this song was a great one to learn.

    Jake

  • Thanks! You saved my ass at the jam this weekend! Good job!

  • Thanks, you're very welcome...I'm glad I could help you out!

  • I never knew Ibanez's sounded that nice, Thanks for the lesson Bro.... Make more please.. great teacher

  • Thanks! I love my Ibanez...it was my first guitar and I learned how it to play on it. I made a couple cheap upgrades which really helped the sound like a tusq saddle and bone bridge pins.

  • Really nice version of this song! Keep up the good work!

  • hi, im want to get a guitar soon, but as usal i dont know which one.. could you recommend a guitar for me. i like the sound of your guitat.. great video

  • Wow there are so many things to factor in when buying a guitar. I always look at it as an investment...you are usually going to get what you pay for. You want something that will sound good, last, and not break the bank. Things to consider what's your budget? What type of music do you play? Where will you be playing it? Email me and we can talk more. My guitar is a 6 year old Ibanez I got for $300 but sounds great. I upgraded a few minor things for a couple bucks. It's priceless to me now!!

  • Well done there Johnd it is harder i know to play the intro without a cut away i play it the same as you keep it up.

  • wow thank alot

  • that's WAAAAAAAAAAAY better than i could do. but tighten it up a little bit. good vid. i like the simple way you broke it down for us mortals. 5*'s

  • you did the hard way

    but great job

  • props dude! Thanks and keep it up. Make some money teaching others to play guitar, in other words, your a great teacher!!!!

  • thank you! i'm glad i could help!

  • Awesome vid!!!!!

    You should definately do more.

What is that D chord on the lead in?

    020033????

  • If you are talking about the lead in before you play the chorus then it's 200033. During the chorus it's a D7...which is X00212

  • Hi, Great vid. As a beginer it really is of some help to me. However, could u please give me a better step by step explanation on how to do the bit on minute 5:42 as im finding it hard. Thanks

  • You start by playing the top string (3rd fret) which is a g. Then you walk it down by hitting the top string (2nd fret) f# i think and then play an Em chord. Hope this helps and good luck

  • thanks ur really doing the world a favour^^

  • good lesson,good playin.

over all you seem like a cool dude, you get the most respect for that ;)

    thanks for postin man :)

  • your amazing =]

can you do robert pattinson: let me sign or never think

  • What happened to this video? It shows "were sorry this video is unavailable" when I try to play it today. I was just getting started.

  • Thanks for explaining the slap strumming pattern,

  • love the les paul in the background

  • I do too...LP's rock

  • nice

  • Hey man! Thanks for an awesome video :) Any chance you might post a lesson for "Spanish Rose" (Van Morrison)?

  • I'm not too familiar with that song but I'll check it out and maybe give it a try.

  • awesome playing!

    wish i could do that:]

  • well done

  • Thank you, I always have trouble with my strumming patterns. This video def. made it easier to learn so thank you.

  • I'm glad I could help!

  • i think you did an awesome job!! i had one question- in the intro if you did the easy one it went: 8 10 12 10 8 on b then 8 10 12 10 8 on high e then 8 10 12 10 8 on b and then what? i didn't understand what came next, but other than that, AMAZING!!

  • Ok for the intro if you wanna play the "easier" one the last part of the tab is just 7 7 8 10 on the b string. Hope this helps let me know...thanks for checking out my video!

  • thanks!! that sounds good, nice job on the lesson

  • I think it was a awesome lesson. Easy to follow, good, clear instructions I like the fact that you don't waste time with chord finger positions. Great job. Would love to see more.

  • thanks for checking it out and i'm glad it helped! let me know what songs you would like to see up there and i'll try my best to get around to doing a lesson on it!
