What is really depressing is the fact that the entire US penitentiary system is a massive revenue generator and employer for many. And they do everything in their power to keep it like that. Locking up people for drug addictions, petty crimes etc and then put them in hell holes that turn a wayward person into psycho bound to come back once released. It is almost diabolical.

Who was that black guy that spent 26 years( 1982- 08 ) in jail for something he didn't do? All along these 2 lawyers knew he was innocent. Their client, a convicted scumbag, told them. They couldn't say anything because of the legal trade's code of Client Confidentiality. They came out with the truth when the guilty party finally died. It's a vicious cycle. Some of those kids could end up in jail, some might go on to be successful, but you often don't hear of those stories. Then the cycle continues. Really sad.

It's a vicious cycle. Some of those kids could end up in jail, some might go on to be successful, but you often don't hear of those stories. Then the cycle continues. Really sad.

I did not say education was bad. I did not make that comparison - u did. All Im saying is that the poor and uneducated don't exclusively make up the prison population. Rich (schemers, brokers actors/ressesetc) and highly educated people (politicians, lawyers, doctors) also land in prison. In short, just because one has a secular education doesn't mean ones not going to prison nor does it mean that prisons as a whole (ur 1st point) should b abolished. Moral fiber of society has to be in check!

It prevented me from living a normal life, but I haven't been crying to everyone about it. You are preaching to the choir, brother.But my problem is that I got mixed up with some rich and powerful a--holes with nothing better to do than to abuse their power.

People who are in prison are there because their attorney's didn't convince the jury that they didn't committ the crime. If you have the money to hire the top of the line lawyers you're more likely to either go free or have a lighter sentence. End of discussion

Actually my best friend is black. He was in a gang for 10 years because his mom never took care of him because she was a crack addict. She only earned enough money for her crack habbits and her own food.
So he joined a gang and they stole together and lived together. His family was the gang.

If you can't tell the difference between a real crime "corpus delecti" (one that has both "cause of action" and "harm") and a "vice" (victimless crime, statutory crime), then you subnormal and psychopathic, and have no value system. Prostitution, drug use, "obscenity", speech, driving without a license -- none of these things hurts anyone, in and of themselves, and none should be considered a crime. No victim, no crime. Tear down all the prisons but ones needed for rapists and murderers.

No, you're wrong. The drug use doesn't fuel violence, the fact that it's illegal fuels violence. All you need to do is take a look at how much violence there was during alcohol prohibition, and how much after: lots during, then almost none. The violence is caused because illegal products can't go to the courts for conflict resolution or property protection. So you're creating the violence, and then claiming to be its victim.
