A real Lecia - not a Minolta and none a semi Kodak creation. These older cameras hold their value far better than the more recent M8 & M9 - both of which will loose thousands once there is an M10 - and don't kid yourself there won't be am M11 after that etc etc....
Never handle your heavy camera over an "expensive" lens like this guy did. Plus, never 'just let go' of the advance lever on these full metal advance levers. You'll put impact dimples on to the shutter speed dial !
@linuxleica Over protection? Leica's are made to be used, not abused. Damaging the metal on the speed dial because someone carelessly "let it go" or a chance dropping of a heavy item on top of a very expensive front element is purely irresponsible. Own a Canon where it doesn't matter...
Sweet camera. I'm still looking around for the "right Leica" for me... one that works well, but doesn't cost so much that I can't also afford a "bargain" (for Leica) lens.
After using the Nikon D70 professionally for the last 5 years, I would never buy a digital camera for any serious work. After less than two months of heavy use, the sensor is just disgustingly filthy. Cleaning needs to be done about once every couple weeks, so pictures don't suffer.
@sinoperture sorry i meant print and develop i can buy a tank its just at the time i had an enlarger and no where to use it. Now i have a film scanner :)
Yes, they were sold, in the UK anyway at vastly subsidised prices so that they could get hold of foreign currency. This gave the impression that they were somehow cheap. Sold below cost price yes - cheap, definitely not!
@207buds sorry but thats a fake look up the Serial number. or git me the # im in camera sales I'll talk to my leica rep. thay have them all on file. lieca m3 black is one of the most faked cameras out there.
I know of no one that has replicated the M series. Unlike the skrew mound Leicas that where replicated by many after WWII. Canon was one of the best replicators that prospered and is still in business.
Nikon used the same replication strategy by coping the Contax Zeiss Ikon.
Nikon RF's do look like Contax, but the internals are that of Leica, tho...
At least with Canon starting from Hanza on, I think they had pretty good innovations of their own built into their models and I would not call them replicas.
@207buds there actually WAS a 50s leica M copy prototype by moscow's KMZ, complete with M mount and 50\85\135 finder AND a selenium meter! It was called the Kometa, or Comet. And what about the (M4\M5) copy that was made by Mao's wife order, complete with lens set, the Red Flag 20?
f /16 on the equator at high noon in summer - ASA = shutter speed. Subtract full stops for each increment. With a little latitude you eye can be close to most light meters. Yes, I have more than one light meter but when traveling lite it's nice to know how to cover the bases.
thats a good looking replica

@linuxleica Can you put a sentence together that refutes what I stated about the poor handling of this camera & lens combo?
y2ktube 4 months ago
@y2ktube I believe that these precautions are unnecessary. This is over protection. leica camera are made to be use not to be admire.

People who buy Leica cameras buy Leica lenses. It's that simple.
Ishcoa 1 year ago
@207buds If that is a Leica lens, then why is the focusing ring like the Voigtlander lenses?
cubeproduktion 11 months ago
@cubeproduktion That's a Leica lens, look at old 50mm summicrons and you'll find similar focus rings.

It's nice that the M3 and the newer Leica MP look almost exactly the same. The red logo just attracts too many eyes.
