The lyrics are good, and the visuals used in this video are excellent - but the song is a little too restrained. The voices are soft and in a light harmony; it's almost a little folky-sounding. It deserves to be raucous and loud and groovin'.
I have this on 45 RPM as the b-side to "Let It All Hang Out" and it's notably different from this version. The vocal is different, there are backing vocals, and, most oddly, the last verse says, "forget about it baby" rather than "forget about it honey." Does anyone have any info on why there are two versions? And has anyone found the other one anywhere online or YouTube?
@KeyIXTheHermit - hi, a few people have mentioned that, i originally posted this as, unknown artist, as that's how it was listed on an early pebbles compilation...after about a year someone said it was the hombres, and the bside to let it all hang out, i actually had the 45, but for some strange reason never connected them....after listening to it, i listed it as by the hombres....i realized it sounded a little different in tone and speed, but put that down to the later editing.......----->
@KeyIXTheHermit ------> in the 70s i read some garage re-issue label sped up some 45s in order to make them appeal to the punk generation more.....this one here may be genuinely from an unknown artist acetate maybe, but i've never seen it referenced anywhere else, besides that one early pebbles compilation........i have the hombres album, at a few of their 45s, but my record player is from the early 60s and it's not possible to get digital rips from it.....------>
@KeyIXTheHermit - i tried recording a few tracks with a mic in the past, inc. this, but as you can imagine the quality is not great, i can listen to it, but i wouldn't want to post it here, it would be a let down, no doubt......i should really invest in a new record player........i would be interested in any more about this version as well, and how it came to be on pebbles.......
For the record, one of the Hombes told me in an interview I did, that the Hombres functioned as the Daytonsa touring band at one point, probably right before they got to record Let It All Hang Out and their other material. Great group !! I've love it if someone posted the actual Hombres version even if it's not quite as good as this one. Mike In KC
i'd have to check the records, but i'm pretty sure it was post daytonas...i don't know all the facts but i believe the hombres prior to this had played as the daytonas for a while, though i just read they didn't actually play on any of the recordings...i like these and the daytonas myself, i used to think it was the same band minus the singer, but apparently not
I also had this 45,is this version really by the Hombres? It sounds so smooth and seamless, with very Fleetwoods type harmonies. I remember the record I owned sounded much rawer, with very different lead vocals and harmonies, with the Hombres' trademark wiseguy-ness more in evidence...
to be honest i'm not a 100%, i just played this and the 45 back to back, this is more uptempo, but it was marked as unknown artist...maybe someone passing will clear up the mystery...i just noticed the video quality on this has dropped loads since i uploaded it.
i just sped up the 45 a bit there, and it doesn't sound far off this...didn't they do that with some of the 70s reissues? to make it appeal to punks more? not sure, i think i prefer this version to the 45, i like all the hombres stuff though
After seeing this video, I purchase the 7" single on ebay,, the one with Let It Out on the flipside, but the version I got is not at all the same as this one. This version used with the video is superior.
The soundtrack to this enhanced video was obviously taken from vinyl, as you can hear the popping towards the end. Where can I find this version? It is so much superior to the version I just received.
yeah, i have the 45 as well, it's the same but i think the quality has been enhanced here. This version actually appeared on the end of essential pebbles vol.1(google)It's listed as 'Unknown artist - go go girl' I'm not sure why that is as pebbles had originally put out the a-side.
If you like go-go girls BE SURE to check out the "vietnamese go-go dancer" posted on You Tube. She is incredible. Rare, raw, news footage from Sai gon circa 1970! Thanks for this compile I enjoyed it a lot!
damn, i just dug out 'let it all hang out' and this is the b side. i've had the single ages and never checked. i wonder why the pebbles people had it marked down as unknown artist.
who'd have thunk it, i spent the last year wishing i had it on vinyl and it turns out i do. life is good, occassionaly. verve kf 5058, written by band member gary mcewen. google his name and hombres to find a recent interview where he mentions this track.
really,do you have a photo of the single you can upload and post a link here? pebbles have this marked down as an unknown artist, wonder how they missed that. i have some original hombres stuff, which label is it on?
thanks, yeah, i know all the clips i used. i liked the dancing from that one. the single/song is a genuine unknown artist track. i have most of the bobby fuller stuff but i really like this song.

This is not the version released on vinyl. Sounds like a rehearsal, maybe an acetate.

Can't believe someone posted this!!! Now where is "birdman of Alcatrash" the flip side of Incense and Peppermints?

This is the actual Hombres version, unfortunately there is no real footage of them on film.
