I think this is from the 4th of July 1991, not the 8th. Top of the Pops used to come on on a Thursday, and the 4th was a Thursday. The 8th was a Monday.
LOVE the half assed implication that waify red haired grunge girl on 'keyboards' is actually contributing the back up vocals...which obviously took four powerful black divas like jocelyn to record!!!!
Well you can't exactly mime playing the drums. You can mime the trumpet, or the keyboard, or the bass guitar, but with the drums you either hit them or you don't! Fair play to him for making himself heard. I wonder if any of the real Incognito are there with Jocelyn?
Sing your azz Jocelyn. I love this version. Of course, I loved the original by Ronnie Laws, and then the Great Side Effect, but this one is awesome, and I was just turned on to it, by a brother from Spain. The power of Facebookl
@skytoweruk It's all playback. The drummer is just playing along but the audio that was broadcast is all playback. You can tell this from the lack of microphones on the kit. It must have been rubbish for the audiences at the show.
@DrumMasterT Sort-of correct in that it is playback. However... generally, drummers are not as audible as they are on this performance - particularly the cymbals. Check a similar TOTP performance, "Fascinating Rhythm" by Bass-O-Matic, and you might understand the point I'm making...
@Bianteowns...that's true, Rinnoie Laws did the original as an instrumental. She's ctually singing the lyerics from the group "Side Effect's" vocal version of the song. So, she's doing a remake of a remake.
My second most favourite track of all time.......it captures a magical time for me when i was in my early teens. This song makes me really happy.......
I had a fight outside wimpy with the drummer for saying he looked like the Chief from one flew over the cuckoos nest, he gave me a sound beating let me tell you.
Well two reasons I was drunk and on a date, trying to look cool, and perhaps the main reason was back then I was a real jerk, I like to think though that its kinda cool to have been assaulted by afamous musician.
This is great, JBs vocal man-eating growl is legendary, absolutely perfect. However, Ronnie Laws 70's original is different and very special ,a truly original laid back masterpiece. Doesnt seem right to even compare them, just enjoy them when whichever mood suits.
Love Jocelyn B. I just googled her and didn't realize that she sang Caught up in a One Night Love Afair. That was that jam when I was just in Jr. High.
Jocelyn Brown is one of the discodivas along with Loleatta Holloway, Gloria Gaynor and Donna Summer to name a few. She recorded with groups Change and Musique as an example and of course by her own name. It's worth to get to know, you won't disappoint. By the way: the group Side Effect made this ( Always There ) earlier, in '76. Their version is the original and is too very good.
Sorry Tiituk you're wrong. This song was written by Ronnie Laws and is for saxophone. It has no lyrics. This is a great version but the best version is by a trio of saxophonists but has sadly been taken off You Tube. If anyone has ir can they put it on please.
