Some amazing home techniques are here on YouTube. Very cool. Check out my how to videos on screen printing. I explain a more commercial process to print shirts but it teaches about how it is done to make money.
I've been in the vinyl business for more than 10 years and just about do all my stencils this way. One question though. What do you use to clean your screen to get the vinyl to stick so well? I've always put the stencil on the bottom of the screen but doing a 2-color job the stencil comes off the screen. How does the stencil stick and you run the sqegee over it without removing the small details? Sorry if I confused you. But Thanks
I am having some silk screen bits delivered next week and i do not wish to use chemicals so i am going to do it like this.
I was just wondering though (as is another youtuber) if small parts of the vinyl cutout would come off like the bits inside the circle on your shirt. Also how hard are you pressing?
Another thing is a youtuber has posted a comment here about not getting the vinyl to stick to a polyester screen (which are what mine are) - what material is yours?
You would think so, but I've done it and it lasts... you can't do a large quantity, I wouldn't suggest more than 25 or so, because ink does start to get trapped between the vinyl and the mesh on the shirt side.. which doesn't actually make the vinyl come off, the ink is slightly sticky which allows the vinyl to stay put, but it does result in a waste of ink since a decent amount gets stuck to the vinyl.
What kind of screening are you using? I tried this on polyester silkscreen fabric and the vinyl does'nt stick. I can barely get the application tape off! Any help would be appreciated!
but i have a question: does't the vinyl stencil small details deteriorate after repetead squeegeing?
i believe a good ideea to avoid direct contact between the vinyl stencil and the damageing squegee is to aply the stencil on the opposite side of the silk screen.
IF you did that you would push the ink threw the screen ontop on the vinyl that in turn would push it off the screen so no ontop is the way to go .....

we do it this way for years, but we cut the
vinyl mirrow-inverted, and put it on the backside of the screen, than the squeeg
doesnt grap the edges of the vinyl that easy

why not coat the screen with emulsion and use the vinyl as a positive and burn the screen.
Wiggles435 4 years ago
you could do that as well ....but this way is used with no chemicals !!!

hi!
could you explain 3), please?
i am thinking that the vinyl will be forced to unstick from the mesh, if placed on that side of the creen you suggested..
