Dives arent just to cover ground to get to ball faster but for this reason as well and if uget a really fucked up keeper he will dive for just camera if u get me...

Just think about how awkward it would have looked if he didn't dive. Plus if you look at his left foot he wasn't set to move the way he did so the dive was essential to making the save.
