  • 'kiss me goodbye' kiss your career goodbye bitch!

  • I miss talent, it used to be a standard to get on television or even radio. Those days are long gone, that's for sure. What a great voice/talent she was! You rarely see the likes of her nowadays, that's for sure. Oh how I long for excellence, and how it used to be!

  • When I was 14 back in the 60's my friends ( especially my sister ) used to tease me and laugh because I openly confessed my love for Petula Clark. Now many years later I am older and wiser and I am married to a great wonderful woman and I look back at all those years ago and say to myself....." damn I had great taste in ladies".

  • My favorite Petula song. Gong to see her Sat nite in NYC, I can't wait. I hope she sings this one.

  • Lovely! Petula Clark, bless her!

  • It wasn't her biggest hit but almost 44 years later I think it was one of her best.

  • oh wow. i had completely forgotten about this song. I used to hear it on the radio all the time in Hong Kong, where my dad was stationed. Last time I heard it was probably over 40 years ago. Thanks so much for putting it here!

  • Goodbye Mary...... It could have been. I will miss you everyday of my life.

  • One of my all time favs by Pet Clark

  • Sometimes the older you are the better you are. At least that's what I will keep telling myself

At least it is true for Petula.

  • Background music..reminds me of the Orient...and in 1968, when this was ordered out of the U.S. headed overseas away from home for the first time, this song was very popular here in the U.S. It will always be a HIT for me and I imagine other fellow Veterans who were ordered out of country too !! Thanks guys for your unselfish commitment to this country....

  • My favorite female singer, from the 1st time I heard Downtown and Don't Sleep in the Subway.

  • Always loved her songs, she is certainly England's sweetheart. Hard to believe she is going to be 80 years of age later this year!

  • very feminine voice;

    dramatic song sung with feeling;

    very nice !!

  • Such a wonderful, sweet, and angelic voice. The song opens my heart, leaving me with many thoughts of my late wife, Julie. Love you, and miss you dearly babe!

  • Very beautiful but sad, perhaps because she is such a good artist.

  • Angelic voice.

  • i love this song so much

  • One of her best!

  • oh, nooo!

    lol

  • ....all the tears in the world won't change your mind

  • wonderful song that I don't know !!! Thank you for this video

  • We choose it, win or lose it Love is never quite the same I love you, now I've lost you Don't feel bad, you're not to blame ..

  • Im not sure which tune was released first but this has a very similar intro to "You only Live Twice" from the same year sung by Nancy Sinatra..Just before the singing starts in both songs it sounds very similar.

  • fabulous!

  • Masterpiece! Should be in a time capsule,,

  • @Lonnyhaze1 Yes. This song is a small slice of Heaven on Earth. This song is in our hearts and minds -- the best time capsule (ever)! I get teary-eyed every time I play this song. It reminds me of the last days on earth for My Heavenly-Resplendent Wife -- My Eternal Love -- My Barbra Rose. After only two years, Barbra left me for Heaven (on November 22, 2010). Play this one for someone you love while you still have time. Saying "goodbye" is the most difficult thing to do.

  • Love this song!!!!

  • ...'Sometimes when someone does a song, you get the feeling that there's just nobody that could have done it better. And that's the way it is with Pet and all of the songs she recorded.

  • This song reminds me of the EM club on the Navy base where I was stationed in 1967-68 at Sabana Seca, Puerto Rico.

  • These "Beautiful" Britt Women, Petula, Dusty, LuLu, Cellia & others,

Realy know How to Rip it Out of Your "Heart".

    What Magnificent Voices!

  • Beautiful, beautiful woman !!! A really britain beauty, she's britain, wright?

  • so much memories come flooding!!!

  • Awesome!!!!

  • poetic love song. beautifully made.

  • reminds me of my dear George Ogle....

  • oh,wow. We girls used to moon over this song back in the day,all riding around in cars in our small town, singing it together.Tears, memories, laughs, all combine when I hear the great Pet Clark and her beautiful songs.!

  • Pretty... just flat pretty.

  • I feel something when I heard this song it feels Like im floating in mid air

  • My "Favorite" Song of Hers.

    Stunningly Beautiful.

Her Voice, the Intro, the Middle, My God, It's so Beautiful.

  • Wow ...

  • I am only 17 but this is the type of music I appreciate.

  • @friendlycowthing , I can totally understand. Real talent never goes out of style. That's why people still listen to Beethoven and music like you see here and from Motown has lasted 50 years.

  • Memories of High School. I love her voice and everything she ever recorded. Thanks for sharing.

  • i like her voice so much!!

  • I was 17, broken up with my 1st ever boyfriend. You can imagine...

  • Love this beautiful but sad song.

  • tiene una melodiosa voz es perfecta gracias youtube por publicar

  • another wonderful vedio of one of many true and gifted artist who kew what class and elgance was and the music it was. This time period also the 50,s 70,s and 80,s. The filthy sicking rappingg music which cant,t be caled music. better known as sound effect,s from a tarzen movie and whinning country music. The only class and elgance left is in celtic women group as for this country forgget it that is no longer here. bye bye miss american pie the day the music died after the 80 ,s

  • This was my mothers favorite song of all time she has passed and so many memories come flooding back. Thanks for posting this old gem

  • Petula is a woman I'd die to marry. Unlike so many creepy females these days who rely on sex for stardom.

  • Although my English isn't good but this song really shake my heart.

    From Thailand

  • @001saksit

Your English seems fine to me. I couldn't have said it better.

    From USA

  • Petula Clark had many great hits that I enjoyed tremendously, but this one is my favorite!

  • To Barbra, My Eternal Love in Heaven -- when I see a picture of Pet Clark, I see a lot of what makes you who you are (Forever). The same winning lovely smile, the same lovely blue eyes, the same color of hair. What's more, Pet sings this song for us. This Is My Song, by Pet Clark, was another fave of ours. Wasn't it -- Barbra, My Eternal True Love? Barbra -- I miss you more than words can convey. Barbra -- I love you beyond words or Time!

  • @desert3347 My dear friend; it is I who was "lucky" to have Barbra as my true and eternal love. Barbra loved me despite my many flaws and faux pas. I pray and hope each day that Barbra and I will be together (forever) someday very soon. My world is devoid of love without her. I miss My Barbra each day. I love Barbra beyond mere words -- beyond Space and Time. Heaven keep you and yours always.

  • people just love this song in my country

  • One of the most beautiful and heartbreaking songs ever. Love it though!

  • ...and I go with a smile...

    Such a great song!

  • THIS SONG IS PERFECT FOR BREAKUPS! I CRY WHENEVER I HEAR THIS SONG ESPECIALLY WHEN I AM FEELING LONELY...

  • what a pretty song

  • Nice.....

  • Fantastic song sung by an fantastic artist in a fantastic decade! No better music than the '60's!

  • I love every song Petula Clark sings! She is simply "outstanding..."This is my Song"

is great- It's hard to choose the best - I do believe all of the songs she sings are

    'SIMPLY ALL THE BEST"

  • When Petula burst upon the scene I was 12 years old. I immediately fell in love with her. One of my older sisters bought this Petula's lp and I would sit and listen to that voice for hours. When I saw "Goodbye Mr. Chips", I cried when she died.

  • What a resplendent song! To My Eternal and True Love, Barbra. We were only together two years before The Lord called you home to Heaven. You left this life and me before I had a chance to kiss you goodbye. Save that kiss for me when we meet again (and forever) in Heaven. I pray it's soon. This life will never be the same without you, Barbra, My Darling of Darlings. I love you -- ad finitum!

  • All the baby boomers like myself now come here to savor a song that we took for granted back then as teenagers or possibly young adults. The lyrics to this song are priceless and need to be paid close attention to in order to realize what a timeless gem this song really is. Back in 1968 the words had no meaning to me now they tug at my heart, since the words are so very true in any king of love relationship that has suddenly soured and require moving on, You were "spot on" Miss Clark back then.

  • This made me cry! It's awesome, though.

  • still makes me cry everytime i listen to this song.

  • love this song for a long time

  • Great songs sang by a great singer....

  • associate me-august 1968-russian troops in my city Prague-tom from Prague

    Merlin

  • One of my favorite Petula songs, but alas it does not get much airplay on the oldies stations. Very sad song but what emotion she put's in it!!

  • very meaningfull song

  • this is still a great song

  • Beautiful lady, beautiful music, beautiful memories.

  • Is Petula Irish? Looks it - I have fallen in love with this Angel's vocals

  • Great job on the vid--this song does not normally come to mind for Petula's hit list--I forgot the slow tempo which drills home the message.

  • It may have been a minor hit in her home country the UK reaching only number 50 on the charts but it was a huge hit in America. Coincidentally "To Sir With Love" by another great British female Singer Lulu was number 1 in America for 10 weeks but was never even on the charts in the UK

  • This song came on every morning at my grandparents home on the farm.Righ before the grain reports. It used to wake me up at 5:30 every morning.Had to milk cows.

  • @freddie121234 Same here , but no music; cows dancing the two step in Northern California, 5 am, day in , day out!!! ( 1973 )

  • flashback of memories.... nice song....

  • great song

  • Petula, mon Cheri, we can never kiss you goodbye!

We love to see you again in a concert.

The world with this awful Global Financial Crisis needs you songs and your love and sunshine just for the sake of good old days.

    We all love you!

Maybe, the "Starting Over" can be the theme song to inspire all those affected by miserable financial disaters.

  • this has happened to me and when i said goodbye at the airport this song rang threw my head and i knew it was an omen of things to come real soon

  • i luv this song very much, it makes me cry everytime i hear it

  • I love this song. This song makes me emotional. Great song from a great and talented singer and to add to that a classy and beautiful lady. Thanks petula for sharing your God given talent to the world.

  • I don't care if it was a minor hit , it still brings me to tears.. beautiful beautiful song.

This gives you some idea of how many great songs came out in the sixties when a song like this doesn't rank.

  • @vanislefan You are 100% correct. That is the reason why alot of great songs, like this one, didn't reach #1. So many GREAT songs in the 60s. Oh, not to mention a group called The Beatles that completely dominated the Top 40 billboard back then. Tough to beat!!! Thanks for posting. Love this song.

  • Yep, one tough moment in time years ago and this song says it all. Makes me think of the girl in Peterborough (Ontario) every time I hear it. All those years ago and I still think about it. Looks like I'm not alone. Why does your first love never leave you?

  • Yep, a tough goodbye song if ever there was one. I always think of Janie from Peterborough, Ontario when I hear this. All these years later I can't help it.

  • This is a popular song to listen to while committing suicide

  • From the movie "Empress from Hong Kong" with Sophia Loren and Marlon Brando. Love it!

  • This is what excellence sounds like!

  • My boyfriend broke up with me, I was 16, and this was on the radio, I never hear it without thinking of that night, in 1968, we made up two days later

  • Although this was not Petula's biggest hit, I truly believe that it IS her very best song.

  • I never fail to well up with tears when she gets to the last line. Thanks for posting.

  • I give internet, phones, ipads, iphones, facebook, years of my life. i give '00-'10 for '60-'70 . Who want.... ? To see elvis, beatles and other gods....

  • VERY NICE. DOES ME REMEMBER MANY YEARS AGO, WTH MY ETERNAL LOVE.

  • I was 8 when this song came out and remember it on thre radio because my Mom always had it playing...it seemed it was played a lot...and yes a sad song at that....I loved music even at a young age

  • This has to be the sadest brake up song of all time !!

  • I really appreciate finding this recording, Apr. 68, I was waiting for my orders to be cut, this record/song was very popular to us at that time in our lives...some very very sad times for a lot of us, and yet some happy memories too..either way I wanted to say Thank You,

  • Minor? You should have seen and listened by the end of summer of 68 a singer and the whole disco Penelope in Lloret de Mar all singing this wonderful song as a farewell to their holidays. Unforgettable.

  • El AMOR hecho mujer----

  • Amazing song, amazing woman, amazing voice. . .among the most marvelous recordings ever!

  • My mother ever told me Petula Clark has a nickname " Miss Dynamite " . She has to be popular liken to all over the world people to know dynamite loud voice .

  • what a wonderful song

  • This song was played all over the place all the time during the latter part of the sixties'. I was probably six years old. Did not know a word of English then but the melody and lyrics seem to have stuck with me ever since, in a very comforting kind of way of course. See? good music never dies, it has no boundary and touches the heart of the meanest souls!

  • Such a beautiful song.

  • This record did better in the US than the UK. Stateside, it reached #15 in the spring of 1968 -- and, along with "My Love," remains one of my two favorite Pet Clark hits.

  • thank u for posting her songs

  • This was quite a big hit in the US and Australia, and even bigger in Canada...

  • k like her(petula clark) songs very much

  • Not one of her big hits, but it's my favorite Pet Clark song. Thanks for posting it.

  • i was in the army and the night after i got my assignment to Vietnam this was on the radio. the barracks got very quiet. everyone was thinking about girlfriends and wives

  • @stevefo49

I just THOUGHT I had a difficult situation in 1968, hearing this song and trying to get over calling my 14 year-old classmate crush and getting turned down for a movie date. I can only imagine the feelings you guys were experiencing.

Thank you and all your fellow soldiers who served, Steve.

  • @stevefo49 Just cannot grasp the feeling - and thoughts that must have been flooding your minds - but at least, you came out of it alive.

  • @stevefo49 What year were you deployed Steve? I was never in the armed forces much less Vietnam. I was being groomed for AFOCS in early 70's but it was interupted by a severe alcohol addiction that I never recovered from until 2002. Thank you so much for your heroic service to America. I am 52 and I was born 9/58. Songs such as this is some of my favorite music. Nobody writes good music anymore.

    Thanks again Steve

    Dave

  • @stevefo49 this was the last song I heard while taking my boyfriend to the airport. he was going to Vietnam.... A war that changed so many lives.....

  • ah....reminds me of a James Bond movie....

  • i love Pet Clarke, could you post " What Now My Love" she does by far the best version of that song!

  • for the last time..pretend you are mine..my darling...kiss me goodbye!

  • Fabulous entertainer and what memories it brings back...if only the teenagers today could realize what real music is and you can actually understand the lyrics!!!! Love her

  • I first heard her song "Downtown" when I watched "Girl, Interrupted" and now I really like her music and voice. I never really heard her before because I am a teen, and she was around before. But she is great. :)

  • Love her and her music! Brings back memories from High School Days!!

  • So lovingly painful.

  • I love this song , but it hurts to listen to it.

  • total class

  • 好歌!

  • she was such a lovely lady and classy :) something entertainers today lack :)

  • @barbj7121 You mean she IS lovely and classy !!!

  • Thanks for posting Petula Clark. She remains my favorite singer all these years. I hope you can post her version of I'm Coming Home. Thanks

  • There was a male artist that sang this piece. His voice resembles Johnny Mathis. Anyone know who that was?

  • Comment removed

  • @MrBeanShrymp Yes, Gary Puckett, of The Union Gap group, has recorded this song and I have it on one of their albums -- fine arrangement, but not quite up to Petula's -- hers is more moving, with better orchestration...

  • I love to hate this song, if that makes sense. I love the song, but it defines my divorce perfectly!

  • Just lovely....

  • Chanson très bien interprétée. Bravo !
