hey wolfman with these kind of pba tournaments um do they required the bowling balls say like this gieco one does this mean u can only use plastic balls? I just want to know cause i want to try to join the pba tour. it's my goal ever since i started bowling. so can u reply to this
Anthony, Roth, Holman would kill guys like Wes Malott or even a Jason Belmote because those guys knew how to BOWL when BOWLING WAS BOWLING not the laughable joke it has become of super powered balls or the rocket flying pins, walled lanes, and even synthetic lanes and the latest the USBC has approved the spring loaded flat gutters just to help you bump the corner pins that you should have left for coming in light. The big names stayed away, what Malott didn't want you to see his old school ave?
Unfortunately, the equipment mfg dictate what happens in sporting events unless the governing body of the sport puts limits on the effect of technology. The PBA and the USBC are now the whores of the ball mfgs and that is not going to change until bowlers get tired of shelling out $200+ for equipment that is as brittle as china. The so-called limits the PBA and USBC have on equipment are minor at best. If you really want to do a tournament old school, then do it on burnt-up wood lanes.
agreed about the new equip. but some websites see the so called $200+ balls for $120 so u cant complain bout price how ever u can about proshops charging u $80 to drill one (thats y i learned to drill my own) plus the PBA &USBC both allow old bowling balls danny wiseman used a manhetten rubber last year
True. The PBA will allow the use of older equipment. I've read the ball reps reports on using older gear, however the incentive for using old stuff is VERY low compared to current catalog product. I too, learned to drill my own stuff about 30 yrs ago. DW used to throw a Black Diamond for his spares. I guess he finally retired it. As websites, some of the ballssold are boat anchors and are at the lowest price tier, so their margins are small and they have to turn their inventory many times.
Being a bowler who started with rubber and plastic...great idea. I remember averaging 215 with a Yellow Dot. Kids today do not believe that us old timers used to use White Dots as our dry lane strike ball...there was no such thing as a spare ball. My first 300 was with a Yellow Dot. I have yet to throw a 300 with reactive resin.
I also started on plastic and rubber bowling balls and it was alot of fun to chase the hook on the lane. My highest 3 game sanctioned series with a 80 hardness plastic ball was 866. The idea of having an open shoulder armswing back then was crazy.
@FoxSilv I threw a 769 with my white dot LOL. We had a white dot tournament between 4 of us from one of my leagues. I avg 220-230 on a THS and my buddy who avgs 225-230 shot a 745. The 2 guys who avg in the low 200s didn't even shoot 600. Call it the balls all you want, lucky breaks...the better bowler will provail.
This is a great gimmick by PBA. It will not only show that this sport an athlete needs skills to play. Enough with the juiced up balls of today. The sport has been commercialised to the point you litterally buy the hook of the ball out of the box
good for you crash i think you have strong hands to hook a house ball that strong. Well all bowling balls hook the difference is how it carries the pins when it hits the pocket. Bowling balls of today doesnt need a very strong hand position to creat that good pin carry in the pocket unlike the old bowling balls. Thats why scores of todays game soars high.
i got kinda the same side rotation as pdw but the revs of tommy the strong hands come from being a mechanic high game with a house ball is 279 left a 9 pin of a things in the 6th i perfer my equip so i dont have to kill myself to play down and in i hate it
Seems to me that the PBA is relying a bit too much on gimmick tournaments this season...first the differently-patterned lanes, now plastic balls only...
But you have to admit that they're interesting to say the least. Gets away from the repetition of the sport patterns and it lets the commentators give some insight on how these tourneys are different and emphasizes the skills of the bowlers, you know what I mean?
brand new plastic balls from the shop hook much less than house balls because theyve been used forever with awful care.

bowling with those looks like you have extreme heavy oil on it, -no room for flare

Every one remember that Wes Mellott ran away like a titty baby from this tournament. Don't ever forget.

@TheBrassHole That seems like kinda harsh language since he won the mvp that year. Just my 2 cents.

it's not the ball that makes a bowler good, it's the skill level of the bowler that makes a bowler good.

remember this u can use any type of ball if u put ur mind 2 it and if u dont strike or leave a spilt then its ur fault not the balls fault
