You've made some good comments about self esteem. Usually, there is too much emphasis on ego & selfishness in recovery circles. However, I don't understand this obsession with "denial". We rationalize our use, but I think most addicts realize deep down that they have a problem. Rationalizing is not owning up to what we don't want to face; it's not the same as being unable to see what's really happening. I would use the word, rationalization, instead of, denial, for that reason.
