Since I was born in the early 80s, I would say "too bad I missed out on the Krofft stuff while growing up!" but I didn't miss out thanks to Cartoon Network back in its infancy. Back before you had to subscribe to Boomerang, which I never did, to get all the good stuff like Quick Draw McGraw (on a more frequent basis anyway.) I still have my "Saturday Morning Cartoon's Greatest Hits" album that they compiled featuring a cover of the theme by Tripping Daisy...
Johnny: "Sigmund! Where the hecks my football?" ---
Sigmund: "Football?! I thought that was a big fat anchovie you threw at me!!"
Lots of great t.v. memories here Balansamba. I was 9-10 yrs old when this show and all the other great saturday morning Seals & Marty Kroft shows were on. Thanks so much.
We're wondering if a major movie studio with Sid and Marty Krofft to do a motion picture adaptation of "Sigmund and the Sea Monsters"? Who will portray Johnny and Scott Stuart, and who will portray Sigmund?
Hoping Johnny Whitaker and Scott Kolden to have their cameos ??
I loved this show when I was a kid and remember the first episode still. It originally premiered in the fall of 1973, and this was the original intro song. They also used TV personalities for the monsters, like Phyllis Diller for the mom, Archie bunker for the Dad, and Gomer Pyle for one of the brothers. They made many references to popular shows of the time. FUn Saturday mornings!
I loved "Sigmund" in the Saturday Morning Seventies ('72 or thereabouts). But it's obvious why they changed the opening theme for Sigmund's second season: probable plagiarism lawsuits regarding the Beach Boys' "California Girls" and the Coke jingle "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing," both of which are evidently copied in this song. Nevertheless, I liked this intro better than the second; despite its unoriginality, it was rockier and poppier. And, oh, those '70s cars! Thanks for posting this!
of course i'm only 34 so i missed the first airings of this show but i caught the reruns in the 80's. What just a weird show but cool to watch when i am bored. Takes me back to being a kid. TY for the post
After year of watching Seinfeld and trying to figure out who George's mom reminded me of, and after watching this, it hit him! Sigmund's mother remind's me of George's mother. I wonder if Larry David subconciously had Sigmund's mother in mind when he created George's mother. Sigmund's father reminds me of Sgt Carter though
If I had any guess, the song bears a strong resemblance to "I'd Like To Teach The World to Sing"...maybe the Kroffts were avoiding any attention from the Coca Cola company? I know it sounds funny, but I'm totally serious here.
I also like this intro song better than the second one. The second one was just creepy, in a bad way.
This was the first intro for the show. I believe the other intro was for part of the second season. I should know because I have the whole series on video.
This is the only intro I ever heard back when the show was on. I thought this was the only one.
