This was part one making the rod puppets, they do not have strings they have thin sticks like those from the garden centre, attached to the hands. These are hidden under the cloth that makes the costume.

Cut a square of material. tie one corner round the neck of the doll, take each of two other corner of the square for the arms tie or sew in a hand in each..leaving the last part of the square to drop into nothing. If you look at Part two on this same site it is easier to follow.
