  • I CAN DO ME A LIFE WITHOUT MY BLACK BELGIAN NOT PRESENT !!!!!!!

  • I think this is the damn dog that invaded my backyard, twice. I saw a black dog that looks exacly like the one at 0:00, in my backyard. When I went to get my mother, she went in and the dog wasn't there. I saw him again about 20 minutes ago, and I went to get my mom again, and of course, he was gone. But he wasn't, 5 minutes later, I looked outside and he was still there! And he ran away after 10 seconds. How do I get rid of him!?

  • @Funkermonster go try to make friends with him by giving him a small piece of food. then call your mom and try to see if it has any dog tags or call animal control.

  • ah good i thought mine was going bald soo much fur

  • have a belgian shepherd, she didn't have the best start left at a farm after an abusive marriage break up, with food thrown into the yard every few days, from about the age of 2months to 5months, until she was rescued. shes now a shadow of what she would have been. shes learnt that all men aren't bad, but shes still so nervous. Its taken years to calm her down and teach her to trust again, shes a different dog now, but even with all her issues i wouldn't trade her for the world :)

  • LOVE the Belgian Sheep dog! She looks like a giant version of our little foundling, Loupy. Same personality, head, eyes, coat, tail, even the white mark on the chest. The difference? She weighs 14 pounds. What breed do we have?? Some have said she is a Schipperke but she has a beautiful fluffy tail and is not as muscular. Her personality is all Belgian sheepdog, tho; stubborn, smart, busy, a swimmer and guard dog extraordinaire!! Can you share your expertiese? Thank you!!

  • Best breed of dog iv'e ever had.

  • The presenter is the best I have ever seen. She is honest about the breed when she says it is not for everybody and when she talks about fur.

  • we think we found a groenendael in our local pound here in okc.. she looks just like these dogs except her ears flop down halfway.. she's all black, with a patch of white on her chest and on the tips of her tail and toes, and a patch of white on her chin.. she was a owner surrender, we think she was too much for them to handle, or she was damaged goods. she would go nuts when we got her but we got that worked out.. she LOVES tennis balls and frisbees! she's a truly incredible dog!!

  • @relgstorm could def. be a groenendael. sometimes they have ears that don't develop fully. did you ever find a home for her?

  • belgië boven all belgië bovn all ! ;D

  • Great video! We have a Groenendael and everything you said fits her completely.

  • it's almost impossible to get one. i had a belgian that i took in as a stray. i loved her so much and she was my constant companion. perfect dog for me. after she died of old age, i started looking for another and to my amazement, the belgian society is so closed and want to keep control of the dog, even after you buy it. they're an arrogant society (from my experience), so after years, i finally gave up. i adopted a lab. not a belgian, but what can you say..... i still look periodically

  • @2009mjwb hello, look in holland we are not arrogant and i,ll hope you get one!

where do you come from? greetz from holland.

  • @jeanet415 - thank you for your thoughts. i am from california, in the u.s. i wouldn't have a clue as to where to start the process of getting a belgian from holland. i'm also quite certain, it would be an expensive process : (

  • Like the video. I breeded groenendaels for over the 30 years. It's true I always said a "Belgian" has a manuel. Read it before you buy one of them.

  • It's not from a French speaking part of Belgium, it's from the Flemish part: Malinois = Mechelen in Flemish greetings

  • I was in tears last evening . . . I went to my car after finishing a night shift to surprisingly be saying "Hi" from the vehicle next to me!! It was a gorgeous white Belgian, immaculate shape and incredibly friendly. At first I thought it was a snow rough, but once I got a good look at her muzzle, you could tell it was not a collie, but a Belgian. Beautiful, graceful angel . . .

  • I have a malinois named Carmen and she is very gentle but amazing guard dog.

  • My dog Dubh (Irish for "Black") is a crossbreed. We were walking him in a park one day and some man said that he looks liked a Belgian Shepherd. We're now thinking that he may be crossed with some sort of spaniel, as he's got spaniel-like ears and not as a pointy face as a Belgian Shepherd.

He's really handsome looking. I've never seen a Belgian Shepherd before so it was intresting when the man told me this.

Lovely looking dogs, amazing coats on them too.

  • @ansionnachcliste I hope you didnt pay full price for one if its mixed. $1400 for a mixed Belgian Sheepdog. Though, if you bought for $700 that would be ok. Half breeds are worth half price, at least this is what im told. My mom has an AKC Belgian and it locked with my ChowChow/Timberwolf female... Beautiful puppies, but only got 2.

  • @obeyance Oh no, he was a rescued from a shelter :). thanks for the reply.

  • Really people? Your'e giving grief over the pronoun she used? Those who are concerned over that need to get a life or go back to school. She can't use he or she because she isn't talking about one specific dog. Obviously she can't say she because they are not all female, likewise she can't say he. "It" is gender neutral. So now that I have schooled you, no more comments on pronoun usage!

  • are belgian shepherds dangerous or agresive? i'm about to get one but im afraid it'll be to agressive

  • @mebeme00 dont buy one if you plan on having kids after because they may not get yous to them and they also have long hair that kids love to pull and if the dog did not know the kid that well its going to bite but if the dog was raised with kids they are loyal aseptically the Groenendael. they are great guard dogs and will protect you like no other. and my Groenendael is so smart i swear that he understands ever word i say. A Belgium tavern is ok but a Groenendael is smarter and even more loyal

  • @mebeme00 mine is an amazing dog, i can't ever imagine having another breed. i happened to rescue him from an animal shelter w/o knowing what a great animal i had stumbled upon. he's my nonsexual lifepartner

  • It is used an interchangeable pronoun to not gender specify. It sure beats saying "he or she" every time you refer to an entity without referring to that entity by name. So, I concur with the inmate527 :-)

  • I have one and I have to say best breed ever for me. We are compatible with my dog. She's clever for sure! she's loyal but you must deserve it with the belgians! But allways asking for attention, work... She'd really like to come with me everywere and she behaves anywere...

  • The French are taught that English people say "it" when referring to animals; blame their school system, not the woman. As an owner of two Tervs I think this is a good description of the Belgians. Cela fait du bien; quels chiens! Et merci d'avoir fait et montré le clip.

  • common.. whats the problem about her english.. just cuz she pronounced somehting wrong.. eople are attacking hr...

her english is great.. trust me.. alot of poeple would speak english like her

  • i really like this breed, the hair is just a bit too long for me

  • @RealspitHiphop604 If you like the breed, but want a dog with a little bit less hair, you could look for a mixed-breed of the various types of Belgian Sheepdogs. We've got a mix of Groenendael and Malinois, she is basically a black Groenendael with short(er) hair.

  • @HenkJanPit wow that must be a great looking dog!

  • mines turning nine this year

  • My swiss shepard named Luma /watch?v=dxhEdD2EXJA!!!!

    4 months old =D

  • i got one xD he turns 13 this year

  • what beautiful dogs! I especially love the tervuren. Nice commentary by the lady--very informative. Thank you for posting.

  • I agree. My dog knows who the boss is. He is great with my kids and he is a great guard dog. But like the lady says: He is not a pet you come home to from work everyday especialy if you don,t involve him in your active life. If you cannot the dog the life he is made for. Then buy a small dog that craves a lot less or buy a cat and it can take care of itself for the most part and own you :-)

  • would you say a belgian is a good starter dog if there's a dog training place right down the street from my house and i have a big backyard and i want a doggie that is playful and affectionate at the same time??

  • the belgian is a real buddy. Does all for his owner. But you should train him firm and fair. aproach him with respect, and he will do anything for you. Dont forget its a watchdog.

  • she s my friend i like her a lot :)

    i have 2 Groenendael 1tervueren

    whaterver she says is true

    kiss vivi

  • i have a belgian.

  • I love these dogs but have stopped getting purebreds; way too many health issues. The Mals that the gov't uses are exclusively European stock; they won't buy from US breeders and actually started their own program so they have healthier dogs. It's a shame -- there's a small gene pool here and it's been badly tainted by a few irresponsible breeders.....who unfortunately keep breeding.

  • You're right. It's sad that in the US they've got so many health issues. Here in Europe there not so much. Sad enough many breeds in the US are not as healty as the dogs in Europe! :(

  • I Love These dogs, Beautiful!

  • All true, I have a Groenendael male myself, and I love him to death!

    Amazing dogs!

  • sweet! She's belgian like me! How ironic is it for a belgian to have a belgian sheperd? My dog is extremely protective. It will kill itself for me if he has to.

I unfortunately didn't get him when he was young, so I can't teach him stuff and make him a little more confortable with other dogs.

They aren't too agressive, but they play a little ruff. His fave game is when he grabs a stick and I grab it too. I got my hand too close to the stick and he nipped me

  • Everything this lady has said is true. They are lovely dogs, but you must be firm and give them a lot of exercise and mental stimulation.

  • i think the laekenois sheepdog is my favorite

  • The tervuren has been my favorite herding breed dog for a long time. Not fit for my lifestyle but I admire their beauty, personalities, and desire to please their owners.

I have met a few at the dog park and YES they do get along well with other dogs as well as children as long as they are socialized starting in puppihood.

  • @poodlegirl4848 nice, i'm from tervuren :D

  • im 13 and homeschooled and im getting one and i cant wait it will be the first dog i ever had thats mine and no one elses and im here all day with nothing to do so it will be my best friend :)

  • well my parents have been raising dogs for 7 years so i know about dogs and i have alot of energy just nothing to use it on this is MY first dog not the first dog my family had and it will be in showing or agility so it will have a job plus we live on 400 acres so it will have alot space ive read up on them alot its not like im just going out and buying one then bringing it home to leave it in a cage for 7 hours so dont do this to people before you even know them (and nikigurl they do shed)

  • Good for you you have the perfect idea. They are great dogs that need a lot of attention. Pay no att. to stupid people that say stupid things!

  • You go with this dog you do know what youre talking about and everyone wishes they could have 400 acres. Do not listen to stupid people!

  • thanks i already put a deposit on a puppy about a month ago and went to see her not long ago i couldent believe how beautiful the mom was shes the only girl and the calmest one out of the litter we decided to put her in showing and agility so now i realy cant wait to get her its just a few more weeks :D

  • yo the 13 year old kid shut you the fuck up eh. good for u kid

  • Do they shed a lot? And do they get along easily with other dogs?

  • oh my they shed like crazy, well my shepherd does

  • They do blow their coats a few times a year and minor shedding in between. Once a week brushing should take care of it. How they get along with other dogs depends on how they are socialized. Mine hates Boxers for some reason, and if he's on lead will try to "protect" me from other dogs. At the dog park he's all play. But he's cool with other Belgians at all times.

  • TOBI JE NAJJACI!!!:-))

  • No hablo ingles jajajajajaja

  • i got a belgian sheepdog... i think they are of the most clever dogs i've ever seen... its very protective and it likes to play all the time...

i never had problems of being aggressive...

maybe because i got it since the day it borned

  • I dont like it when people refer their pets as "it". They are not objects or land. They are living breathing creatures.

  • I'm pretty sure she means non-gender specific "it," not property "it."

It's a hell of a lot faster to say "it" than "he or she."

I do agree though. Some "dog whisperers," as they like to dub themselves, have no respect for the dogs, but only for their own training abilities... wouldn't that be a "trainer whisperer" then? Ha ha ha.

  • she's french.. she's not all that fluent in english, give her a break

  • @Thecomedyjudge belgiun not french

  • BOUVIERS ARE THE BEST DOG EVER!!!

  • Are the Belgian and the German shepherds very similar breeds? It seems that the German shepherd is more highly esteemed.

  • German Shepherds and Belgian Sheepdogs are separate breeds. If it seems like GSDs are more highly esteemed it's because they are a much more common and well known breed. I've owned both...give me a Belgian ANY DAY!

  • Thanks for that comment. I just owned a Belgian and was really looking for a German, so I am glad that I still have a great dog

  • both are AMAZING dogs you cant put either down at ALL, the belgian is smaller (slightly) but thats it really.

  • I really appreciate your comment..thanks.

  • The biggest different is that the German Shepherd is an all around dog. Can be anything you want whereas the Belgian has to work, but German Shepherds can be ordinary pets, fit into your active lifestyle, can herd, military, police, service dog, anything really. The Belgian, because it's steady use as a working dog and not breed just to be a pet, probably has a higher desire to work though.

  • Hmmm..I get a hint that there may be problems with the Belgian that nobody wants to mention. I am noticing that my 4 month puppy is verry stubborn and rejects a trained command like 'COME' whenever it feels like (but I continue to be patient). It also is developing aggression rapidly against anyone ...aggression without obedience is a DISASTER ...Hmmmmm... but I intend to overcome these observations when it crosses 6 months old.

  • It all comes down to proper training and exposure. Your puppy is trying to establish his status in your pack (family), and seems that he/she might be attempting to be the Alpha. If you are not a trainer, it might be worth while going to a trainer to get some advice on the proper way to establish your alpha status and training technics.

  • Its a SHE, yes and I think you are spot on with your assessment. I am not a trainer, but I am making a study of "Dog Whisperer" and talking to people like you to get advice so that I can become my dog's trainer. She is progressing nicely though. Thanks.

  • There is no need to wait until a pup is six months old!

If you are having these problems at that young an age, then there is something amiss, either with your training methods or the pup's temperament or both. Get to a trainer that uses positive reinforcement. Aggression/reactivity is most easily dealt with in younger animals Get help!

  • Yeah...You are so correct...I was able to get a breakthrough only after I discovered my own mistakes and adjusted. The dog is however from a very aggressive mother so she had that tendency....but, the problem is solved now...thanks...I will post a video for you to see her in action soon....

  • I am so glad to hear you've been able to work with your pup. :)

My first Belgian was from a *very* sharp dam (who probably never should have been bred, but I was new to the breed and while I asked all the right questions, I didn't know how to verify), but he was the love of my life and taught me more than anyone else (human or canine! ;) ) about behavior.

I'd love to see a vid of your pup. Congrats again on making progress with your girl.

  • don't tell my Belgians that!!! There is very little difference between the work ethics of

either the BSD as a group and the GSD. The BSD is a lesser known breed and therefore has not had a lot of the problems that the GSD has simply because of the lesser popularity. The Belgian is definitely an all-around dog. I have shown mine in confirmation, used them as therapy dogs and had them just as pets. As long as you can do the grooming, you have one of the best dogs there is.

  • Of course, it is very obvious that dogs who are less popular have less health problems, which is something I'd like to see more of. As for all-around dog, I meant GSD are BRED as pets, herd, guard, police, while Belgians, like Border Collies, are bred as working dogs, not specifically as pets. There is a great difference in that. As for grooming, it is more of exercising and keeping the dog's mind afresh than grooming as they are not couch potatoes.

  • If anybody can tell me where I can find a groenendael for sale or for rescue in the midwest please message me!

  • Belgians are the coolest dogs ever. My dad took our's to work every day. There also very protective to your family as long as you treat him or her good and give them your love. But I have to say any dog will be protective.

  • My family has a Belgian sheep dog shes such a cutie. A little on the weird side, she loves attention... so funny. We also had a Belgian before this dog and she was amazing, never had any problems with her. I love this breed. Also we've noticed that Belgian breeders are kind of overly protective. Our first Belgian was hit by a car and no breeders in WI would let us buy any dogs from them we had to get my recent dog from Quebec, it was like they all sent memos to each other with our names on them

  • Does anyone know any breeders in the northern california area?

  • For Tervs, check the web and look into the club magazine Tervuren News Tales. Breeders will be reluctant unless you are a dog person, though. We love the two we have, but like the lady said, Belgians are NOT a dog for everybody!

  • Well I've always loved dogs but I couldnt have one because my mother moved me around too much but now that im stable Im looking for a dog. Namely a Belgian Sheepdog. Ive been researching for a year and a half. I narrowed it down to Irish Wold Hound and Belgian. The Belgian is a great dog for me because im active and love to hike in our local state park. I also think dogs should be trained with love. Always with love. My Belgain will be taken everywhere with me (even to work if I can!).

  • Also, get your Belgian into agility and/or obedience. Belgian energy is not like, say, a Lab's, where companionship and exercise are enough. They also need mental exercise and have to be constantly learning new things. Belgians think a lot - be sure they have constructive things to think about.

  • I keep that in mind! Would setting up my own course be good? I dont know how to compete in agility and it seems like the best way to teach myself and the dog. With obedience what do you suggest? Like I said I've never really had a dog before so I dont know where you'd begin exactly. Thank you for telling me all this its really helpful.

  • Teaching yourself is nearly impossible for a first-time dog owner. Ask your breeder for a referral on a training center - any reputable person should try to help you. If not, look for a teacher who owns and handles herding dogs, especially Belgians (best case, obviously), border collies or Australian shepherds. Herding dogs are weird(!) and having a specialist really helps. Start your pup in puppy obedience as soon as possible, then let your trainer guide you from there.

  • if youve never had a dog before than i dont reccomend a large breed.Since its been a month you have probably already gotten a dog i grew up with dogs so i would know that if you are a beginer small dogs are HIGHLY recommended

  • basicaly google it and you should be able to find the shelters in your area

  • We just got our second Tervuren. They are such great dogs. What she says about shedding is true. Only twice a year for shedding, despite the gorgeous coat. You will never have fur all over the place. The best thing is that they always smell wonderful. Even if they go outside to play and get wet, they still smell clean and fresh. To me this is so important. I can't stand dogs that have a stinky coat.

  • I have a Belgian Shepherd, she is the most obedient dog I have ever met and so intelligent.

  • my first dog was a belgian groenendahl. she was very, very intelligent, very, very loving, very, very loyal. she is right, they need to be with you. if left alone for too long they can get a bit neurotic and do destructive things. my dog also hated water and refused to swim, even from a pup. but she could run like the wind!

  • thats because in america they are known as the belgian sheepdog

go to the akc site and find a good breeder there

  • wonderful looking hounds what are the ones with the nice all black coat?

  • groenendahl variety

  • Very good video.

  • OMG ^^ There such great dogs ^^ I have a belgian/boarder collie mix and he is so smart and lovable ^^

  • My oncle has one to. Boarder collie/Belgian Tervun.. Long brown hair and his breast is beautiful white. His ears are also like a boarder collie. For the rest he looks like a Tervun. Very smart and affective dogs!

  • thank you so much for making this video...you are spot on and anyone who wants one of these dogs will learn a lot from you...they are great dogs, easy to train because they are very smart and just want to please...and anyone that has one in their lives is truly blessed

  • I JUST LOVE THESE AMAZING DOGS!

  • great dogs. my belgians hike with me every day. they are loving, smart, funny, healthy, connected. 2 of them climbed mt washington last summer. great all around hiking dogs. but like she says, don't leave them home!!
