  • The first and the last HST passing at speed in this video seem to have a different sound to the others... Is it because of the different engines used?

    Fantastic!

    Thanks for posting.

  • @4fsake Some HST's in early 2008 still had the old Paxman Valenta engines (the ones producing the high screaming sound), but most were fitted with the new MTU engines. The transition from Valenta to MTU was taking place at the time, hence the varying sounds of the HST's recorded here.

    Thanks for commenting!

  • @4fsake Furthermore, this transition was taking place on the National Express (now East Coast) HST sets - the only full valenta powered HST here was the Grand Central set (the black one shooting through on the centre road).

  • Thanks mststv!

  • u sure there isnt coz i thought i saw one. or it could be just my imagenation lol

  • huh. did i jst see a Midland Mainline HST at 2:31. you can see it at the right hand side in a platform

  • I don't think there is a Midland Mainline HST there.

  • Oh my god Dave! That HST at the beginning was really bombing it through! Doncaster is amazing, cant wait for this weekend!

  • It sure was; the horn is also featured in my 'whistles and two tones vid', as is the one with the nearly all-silver HST.

  • Yeah thats the one Dave! Thought I recognised it!

  • LOL! I could be making a sequel soon (maybe for my 200th vid, which is fast approaching)...

  • The first HST was going really fast through the station, why does the grand central HST only have six coaches?

  • Interesting question there andrewbarrett42. I don't know if it's anything to do with capacity or platform length; it could be either or both. But I'm sure the sets will be extended as demand increases. Don't know if this helps, but that's all I can say. Thanks for commenting.

  • Yeah, that too. Thanks for reminding me stationendproduction.

  • The sight, smell and sound of a rushing train can attract some interest.

  • hia my old account was GNERHST07 when mite you be at doncaster again

  • I don't know if I will be at Donny again for a while, but will do a repeat performance of this if I do. Cheers THEHSTFAN!

  • Whew! She's escaped the MTU curse. For now... Cheers!

  • David,5* rating.Brilliant.I've watched the progress of Grand Central since inception and intend to travel the Route soon.

    Thankyou.

  • No worries tamarum, thanks for viewing and rating!

  • I miss the GNER livery, but that Grand Central livery is pretty slick.

    Oh, and a 5* rating.

  • Cheers arthurnudge!

  • I have indeed seen your (excellent) GWR 1984 videos. I was born in that year; wish I had been around before then though. I feel so cheated to have missed those years.

It's also a great pleasure to speak to you. Thanks for commenting and keep up the good work on your end!

  • Don't forget about the rediculously small windows on the Pendo. 5*

  • Oh yeah, forgot they had. Thanks for pointing that out WaltonSpotter, and also thanks for the comment and rating!

  • They're even worse my friend, the toilets stink. Literally. The only time they look good is when a Virgin 57 Thunderbird is dragging them.

  • Hopefully CrossCountry will use HST's at some point soon. Thanks for commenting SwindonCable!

  • Very nice, thanks for subscribing, i like HSTS, don't like the National Express white ones though

    4 stars from me

  • Cheers! Which do you prefer, Valenta or MTU?

  • not bothered really, MTUs mainly as see more of them

  • Yeah, I'm not bothered about Valenta or MTU, though I must admit I will miss the distinct Valenta scream. I tried (as you will see here) to get what Valenta's I could hear screaming through Doncaster. Cheers again!

  • Cheers! Glad you enjoyed your day out, as much as I enjoyed mine, LOL!

  • excelent vid,its a shame GNER no longer exist,i aint too keen on the national express livery!but then again its the hsts that make happy....

  • Cheers pattonrail. The HST's keep me going as well, whether they be Valenta or MTU.

  • Cheers hst125matty. You're right about 080 being quiet, it was probably coasting or something. Between you and me though, I hope 080 will continue to dodge the MTU curse for some time!

  • Ooh eck. Ah well, HST Action in York has OCSA screaming out of York station; check out the video and you'll see what I mean.

  • I certainly would. Check out my HST Action in York video to find out!
