Thank you for uploading this footage of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, from an era when this was really a sight to see and New York City was a much more fun and interesting place than even now.
The balloons then were much more special--of Disney ("Donald Duck"), Warner Bros. ("Bugs"), Hanna-Barbera ("Huck" and "Yogi," "The Flintstones") cartoon and classic comic book ("Superman") characters, not just the characters that only appeal to real small children as is mostly the case today.
If I could go back to 1969 I'd buy a couple of brand new Hemi 'Cudas, then put 'em in storage 'til now. Right now I'd have brand new 0 mile Hemi 'Cudas!
@cstoczyn That's cool, I joined the navy in 1988. Thanks for posting this, btw. The date was Thursday, November 27, 1969...very cool seeing something filmed on the very day I was born!!!
They had good baloons back then, now it's spongebob.

Actually, the parade does include "Spiderman" now, but only because he's become a Broadway musical.

I hope that they make another Smokey balloon in the future. As a child, this was my favorite Macy's balloon.
