@GuitarRockinChick18 - That's true but the mass produced videos are working off a much smaller margin and much larger advertising budget so I don't think it's even feasible for someone without this type of support to PRODUCE and DISTRIBUTE videos for any less than that. Actually, it really should be higher. I personally appreciate that someone takes the time to bring diversity.
@ioanatimariu if you put in the cost of everything it takes to create the DVD it's like $1. I would pay $30 for a DVD of belly dance instruction if it had at least 3 hours of instruction and it was made/produced by a "big name" dancer, but this is a little too much cash for me lol. But thankfully we can learn instruction for free too, i use to use FitTV before i started purchasing DVD's
@GuitarRockinChick18 - how do you figure $1? Did you take into account anything else except the actual DVD?!! How about the camerawork? Creating the choreography? all the hours that went into that? Creating the music or heaven forbid, having to pay royalty for using existing music? renting the equipment? doing editing? lighting?
And if the person ends up selling very few DVDs, how on earth is she going to even recover the money that were put into creating this DVD?
@ioanatimariu The cost of a Digital Video Disc (also known as a DVD) Is only $1. I did not count video/cinematography, otherwise i would have stated i did..... If this person was charged outrageous prices for her cinematography i would freak because it's decent, but not worth $30. Sorry!
Very nice video, but I agree that no one in particular "invented" this. My teen invented dancing with veil poi and scarf poi 5 yrs ago but just didn't market it.
Dana is beautiful with the voi, but I have also seen dancers doing very similar in the early 1990's. Some things are an inevitable "invention" and are often done by many people around the world. In other words: it was also invented by others about 15 years ago, but they didn't market it. I'm sure Dana didn't know this, though.
There are other voi instructors and performers out there and I often see nasty comments on their vids saying "oh yeah, well, she didn't invent it!"
As far as I know im the only one who has put out a DVD on it because im the one who created it. Its avalible on ebay, amazon, and my personnal myspace page.
....are you saying you "created" voi?!? Because that's completely untrue and totally unfair to the DOZENS of people who helped develop it! I watched girls voi dancing
(no, I don't mean flag poi) with beautiful handmade voi almost ten years ago...Did you think you were the first bellydancing fire dancer? How can you say that?! Did you coin the term? 'Cause you sure as heck didn't invent the art.
" Dana has perfected this original technique with single and double "VOI " and now offers you the opportunity to learn from the dancer who first invented combining two very popular dance props. " I have a dictionary, AND I read descriptions...Stupid.
How do i go about ordering this vido/dvd? i think this is a great prop. i already do fire shows and this would be a great add on for indoor shows and such. drop a line or a link at my email.
I lalaLoVe it! The semi-circular veil has always been my favorite prop, and this looks like it's wild cousin. I'm looking forward to your dvd. Keep me posted, it you can.
$30.00???? Good dancing but too rich of a price for my blood. Even the professional dancers don't charge THAT much for a DVD.
