for some reason i do not have the partition setting on my ps3 it just skips that part of it for some odd reason and yes i backed my data up if that was part of the problem

i have one of the 1st ps3's relaesed (40gb) it has no install other OS in system settings, maybe undate has screwed it up?? would restoring the system help, or am i doomed?

@slysy1979 update removed it. I'm mad at that too. maybe another update will bring it back? I doubt it though.

hey when I try to reformat my hard drive it doesnt allow me to partition the disk, and there is no install other os tab either, any clue why??

Have downloaded the YDL 6.2 image from official source, yet not been able to get the PS3 to read the disk.

Used DVD+R @ 8x 6x 4x 2x all to no avail.

Installed other OS from a USB drive successfully. However at the Kboot prompt (with the YDL DVD in the drive) pressing the TAB key does nothing, and typing the install command (install_ps3_720p) just returns "command not found"

Tried copying the contents of the image to USB drive (FAT32) but no joy there either

any advice?

@suli559 - No, sorry, it turned out that the blue ray player had broken because when we tried playing a normal game disk it didn't work with that either. Also the HDMI out had blown, turns out the previous owner had had a lightening strike and they'd had a new PS3 on insurance and this one was the one that got hit.

It still works on a normal tv connection and can install and run downloadable content though.

So when giving 10gigs over to the other OS it's gotta format the entire drive? It doesn't just resize the partitions sorta like what Partition magic would do?

Games download from store don't get backup from what you're saying. Is there a location that shows you purchased software to grab it?

anything downloaded from the store will need to be downloaded again, but you will not have to pay. I'm not so sure about accounts, my guess is yes though. to backup trophies you just have to make sure that they are sync'd with the server.

When you reformat the harddrive, do you format it the way fat32 or wateva is describe to hold bigger files.

I hear you lose quality if things try to run like this in a larger format.

When you did quick. is that safe? is there a safer way to do this?
