If a player does a dirty move like a slew foot and it is followed by a "line brawl" of all or most players on the ice fighting, it won't get much "applause". If enforcers square off, it will get light applause. If a player who doesn't normally fight gets tripped or something and initiates a fight with a player who normally fights, he will get heavy applause. etc.

i think its funny that your hockey knowledge is flawed. they did NOT INVENT THE TIE DOWN BECAUSE OF ROB RAY. they have had it for years, i believe since the 70s? its was never a rule to have your jersey tied down till 96-97ish. they invented the notorious "rob ray rule" and and forced players who fight to tie it down.
