I just about worshipped my second husband, who could play mandolin to make you cry. It does sound a bit foolish. My Nana spoke with a Kentucky accent but was actually from Casstown, Ohio. Bluegrass music is just superb and I love the Celtic connection. I live in France now and have inlaws in Brittany. I like the mix of this American music, which is so unique.
I got a message one day that a very angry woman was on her way to give me a piece of her mind because she was upset with how I did my job. Worse, she was bringing her mother along so I would get both barrels.
When they entered my office, as they took their seats, I asked what part of America they were from. "Kentucky", I was told. "Ooh! That's where Bill Monroe comes from", I said.
The elderly lady melted with kindness and smiled. We were friends at once.
@OrodesIII Great story!! In my Ohio family, if you couldn't play an instrument and engage the family in music fun, that was okay, you made lace. Hee hee hee! Tatting.
I still can't find the name of the song he did in the beginning while he's at the opry . The scene right after he opens him mandolin case and plays southern flavor on his porch.
Wow! This is just awesome! I'm so gracious that we got some amazing footage from Bill and John Hartford before they passed away. I would have loved to have seen both of them in concert but Bill left us about a half a year before I was born, and John left us when I was about 4. So I'm extremely happy that we have their music preserved like this, cuz it's the next best thing to have been right there talking to him. Love the part with Bill dancing with hip hoppers! Long Live Bluegrass!

I hope they make a video like this about Doc Watson, too. Long Live Bluegrass!
at 22:23 or so, where he's talking about moving up to b natural. that's a huge step in modern music, the entire bluegrass genre depended upon that shift!
Does anyone know the name of the first song Bill plays on this video? the one that starts out with him on the porch and cuts to him playing it on the Opry-
