You should update the firmware there is a buzzing sound in your audio. All the Zi8's have this problem. I did a small test about found that the 1080p setting did not have the buzzing but the 720p did. But other people have reported that they do not have it in their 720p.
That's the Zi8's "face detection." When it detects the face, it properly exposes it. When it no longer detects the face, it then adjusts the exposure for the entire frame. So when he looks down, that's why it gets brighter. I had originally thought face detection was for focus purposes, but no.
are there settings on the camera that changed the lighting or did you like open a blind or something?

I record with my Kodak zi8 at 720p/60 fps but on Youtube it plays at only a maximum of 480p. I am also using image stabilization. What should I do?

You can plug in a microphone, this is verry usefull cuz the sound of the zi8 isn't verry good.

I have since updated it, yes. The firmware update wasn't available at the time I shot the video.

When you update the firmware did it get rid of the buzzing sound? When I had my Zi8 it only got rid of the buzzing sound in the 1080p mode.

Interesting fact about the face detection...I didn't know it had to do with the brightness level. This camera is thus far, the best as of Dec 2009.
