I didn't realize how much I loved this song until I bought his greatest hits collection and was playing THIS song over and over again. For one thing, the lyrics are such outstanding poetry, and the music is tops. I love the drum grove. Thanks for posting this vid. This specific performance is great.

As others here have said human wheels, pretty much the whole thing is a masterpiece. It portrays the American experience as well as a Stienbeck novel. When he brought it to the record company suits they didn't want to put it out because there was no rap music in it. That was one of the reasons he ended up using Chevrolet to get his music out. No wonder the industry is in the tank.

@EWLGtoday Almost all performers are publicly liberal. Even those who are not are terrified of the illogical backlash that would hit them if they chose otherwise. Most of these performers are millionaires who attempt to avoid paying taxes like the plague. But they will never tell you that as they scarf down their $300 a plate sushi in Hollywood. They want to portray that they are just one of the masses.

Mellencamp is actually an exception to the rule above. I work in the business btw.
