God, how sad. THE LAs could have been a SUPERGROUP but for the mental health problems of Mavers. They only did one proper LP (the La's The Las) and Mavers was such a perfectionist that it was released over his straineous objections. The LP is BRILLIANT---one of the defining moments in JANGLEPOP. He should have kept taking his meds. How sad!!! FYI, I wouldn't give a THRUPPENCE for the SICKPENCE . The La's is JOYOUS; the Sixer's maurading---she slides into the notes like Ty Cobb sliding home!!!

Wish I could here this. My band met The La's in Lancaster Gate Hotel before this came out. They invited us up to their room for a smoke and a drink and we got to listen to their demo. I'm guessing I was one of the first people to hear this song. At the time I remember thinking WTF, this is a great song, I wasn't wrong!

@troglodyto We were fairly unimportant. Played two gigs with the Chili Peppers 1 month before their guitarist died. Did a 12 date tour with Iggy pop and did a European tour with The Ramones. So it wasn't so bad.

@Nub12342 I always thought the SNTR cover was a little like a Carpenters record, not really bad, but better suited for background music in a shopping mall. Ironically, I heard this version in the Stop & Shop a couple of weeks ago; had to get out of the freezer isle to some place where I could hear it better. Wonder how much of the great scenery here still exists; they tore down Ringo Starr's childhood house a few years back.
