  • My Grandad Albert Kilgour worked there, and I think my Dad, Ron Carter worked there as an apprentice sparky when he was young. My Nana and Grandad Kilgour lived in Holmes Carr Crescent. When I was little I used to get told off for sitting on the wall in the back garden, because I used to get my pants covered in soot. All my family gone now, but still these photos remind me of happy memories. Thank you :)

  • My grandad ( Bill clarke) worked there for years. His son Will Clarke also worked there for at least 40 years. Other son Jimmy Clarke is a local character. Used to spend school hols in Rosso in 60s either at Haig Crescent or Smillie Road... happy days

  • @tutorsteve Hi yes i know Bill and Jimmy and still see them regular i worked with Bill at Rossington colliery

    and when i was younger we had a good football team at the Labour club and Jimmy helped to run it

  • Great video, I returned for a visit 8 years ago after leaving for Oz in 1960. What the F has happenned to the gas street lights. And the Hippodromeg has gone.

  • Rossington is and will Grow from the depths of the mining times! Good history but a brilliant future is had by rossington! I moved here 5 years ago and until some thieving twit knicked my garden furniture is the best place I have lived long live Rossington History! Archie Mcphail is my Grandad in Law if you know him or the family!

  • i love british mining history, went on a couple of solidarity marches & union rallys in 84 as a youngster with my dad.

  • nothing but history now...found my dad on there..Innes Simpson...about 2 and a half minutes through...

    it real is criminal what has happened...

    i dont think rossington will ever be the same...

  • remember me da taking me up to the pit to buy some boots when i was dead young and for some reason we passed near some showers and i was well freaked out by all the blokes runing about in the nuddy!!!working class heros.scabs are scum!
