Awww man! I'm gonna be in Edmonton to video some transit action there in April and I didn't know the trackless trolley system had been abandoned already... crud! I guess it will just be buses and some light rail....
At least I'll be going to Vancouver on the same trip....
Very sad to see! we are bringing trolleybuses back here in Leeds,, England. It is costing £255 million to build 2 routes, that puts into perspective just how much Edmonton has thrown away in electrical infrastructure.

@yorkie556 very true especially in the long term when petrol and Diesel runs shor tand prices increases, Electricity can be made from anything even regenerative braking can put electricity back in.

Oops! Yup, Fat fingers got spelling error & never noticed. I sure do miss the trolleys. I'm trying to find out on how to get a petion going to bring them back, as the vote was 7-6.
F**K ETS! cost to much! system sux, bus is never on time, plus bus drivers are assholes. I don't think I need to run to a bus stop then get the door slamed in my face as he drives off! LIKE WHAT DA F**K!?? not the only time. plus what is up with the 59 rout and the 74 rout. they both go to the dam same spot but run on the same schedule! ARG! whatever....
I was sorry to learn that the trolleys are gone. I was back in Edmonton just this past weekend and wondered to my partner where the trolley buses all were. Quite sad really.
It sucks. I rode the trolleys on that exact route from 107 Ave, 101 St to 115 ave, 95 St every day for 3 years and now I have to listen to the loud engine on the old GM's because ETS is too cheap to buy us some of those buses that Vancouver loaned to us. RIP Trolleys.
WoW does that ever suck! Its also sucks that, that bus has to wait for the bus in front of it to refuel, and check the oil, coolant and such. All that trolley needs is its fair box collected and cleaned!! That is a sad video!
This whole affair of trolley abandonment in Edmonton is incredibly sad. I honestly cannot believe that your numbskull politicians have allowed this to happen. Sadly my local trolleybuses went in 1966, and they're still missed, though never likely to return. In the case of Edmonton, dig below the surface and you'll find a hidden agenda - someone is out to profit from this lunatic policy - dig and expose them!
Excellent pictures and video, love the speedy ride!
It's a shame that at the very last minute as the trolley pulled into the barn, the peace and electrical motors humming is disturbed by all the diesel fumes and engine rambling sounds, no wonder even the piece of ad on the curb side of the bus attempts to spread the idea - "prevent poisoning"!
Well, comes to Vancouver everyone - our trolleybus system works around the clock - 5am to 3am Monday to Sunday!
I miss these types of busses, the new busses seats are awful and very unconfortable.

You mean City Councillors. They were the one who got rid of the trolleys in the first place.

Technically, this bus did run on May 2, which was when your video was taken as well, since it was after midnight. :P
