  • My lawnmower sounds like that too.

  • Nice Toyota.

  • Nice color changing Elise. I want one that shifts from orange to green, but orange to red is pretty cool.

  • This car's Toyota-powered?

  • sounds like shit dude....

  • nice looking car but the sound is weeeaaak!

  • Toyota *.*"

  • is really fast car!!!but i have not!!

  • would someone agree taking the zz engine out and putting k20 in it??? better engine right!!!

  • @jdm27ef yeh. after i get mine id like to save up and put in a k20

  • @ItsRyanStudios why would you do that?

  • is that the sound it makes when brand new?

  • @COCHIAIRWAYS ya stock

  • Rex,,,definately just you, to me it sounds like my electric weed wacker.

  • Oh My God that sound is beautiful

  • Yes the reliability on mine is fine. The only problem I have *ever* had is with the battery but I think I just got a dud from the showroom.

I think people here are just grouping MGs in with Lotus, since MG is well known to be unreliable. The new Elises have sealed Toyota 2ZZ 1.8L engines and great build quality.

  • is it just me or does this little 4 cyl sound just like the 430's v8?

  • @StigasaurusRex its just you

  • yup

    :)

  • @StigasaurusRex I can see why you'd say that... maybe a bit when it's idling, but at the same time, I know the 430 sounds much much, much more aggressive than this.

  • not any more the 1.8 toyota engine is good that was an old rep for the esprit

  • how reliable are these cars? i hear they're worse than range rovers meaning they will break down while driving? any insight?

  • Dude, the American market version just has a Toyota Celica engine bumped up to 190hp. What would break down? The entire car doesn't have anything complicated on it to break. It is just a light weight car with a small engine, barely any electronics and as few mechanical parts as you can put on it. I honestly don't have any data to back this up, but seriously - there is no way that it is unreliable.

  • ok but im just saying as a brand overall im not just talking about the engine. i know porsche and lexus are the two most reliable cars according to jd power and associates with 90 problems per 100 vehicles meanwhile land rover did a landmark worst with 300-400. i was wondering where a lotus would fit. also i have no doubt that maintenance fees and replacement parts would be a fortune.

  • The toyota engine is very reliable.

  • toyota motor and transmission...i'd say its pretty reliable.

  • as a british car, it has maaany reliability problems, but it's one of the best cars of its range, it's awesome fun and fast!

  • They're very well built machines, assuming you know how to drive. Definitely not a beginner's car. However, in terms of overall reliability, they're great. The opinions you've heard have clearly been from Lotus haters - and they are out there.

  • actually, i've heard from even lotus owners that the reliability is not so great, which is generally what i hear about british sports cars.

and trust me, im not a lotus hater. if i could afford to have one as a second car i would

  • Well, fair enough. Some people have differing opinions about cars. I will admit that a British sports car is a totally different beast from most of the American stuff around here. One thing to keep in mind, though; almost every mechanical part on this is Japanese.

  • Don't get me wrong, I love the Lotus Elise but the exhaust note is not it's best virtue. The Borla exhaust on my Jeep Liberty sounds better than that, hehe.

  • The only real reason they now use a toyota engine in there instead of the k-series engine is because lotus want to introduce the elise into the american market and so hadto change it due to US emissions laws.......work that one out when most people drive round in V8 powered cars in the US. That clip really doesn't do it justice it sounds better when you're standing next to it or even better in the cabin

  • ¬¬ sounds like a nissan tsuru, thats why a love v8 cars

  • Comment removed

  • o lol what are bilonaires doing on utube now days?

  • sweet, next you should hire someone to teach you how to fucking spell if you're that rich.

    MORON.

  • I want this so bad.

  • Everything up to like 4000rpm sounds like crap.

  • hmm... i like the car and the looks and the sound. but hows the reliability?

  • the depreciation on these things are ridiculous

    deff buy one used

  • my dad bought one for 35k, turned around and sold it for 30k 6 months later with only 1k extra miles. its pretty bad. You can find early models in the low 20's and they still don't have more than 20k on the odo.

  • the reliability is of a toyota engine, because well it is a toyota engine, great reliability but they do depreciate fast

  • every car depreciates quickly, outside a handful of cars Porsche being one... but try taking a Boxter back after 6 months, how can you be given near the asking price when the dealer has to make a profit. My Series one Elise I got in 97 is still worth around 10,000 and it cost 21,000, that's pretty good, most cars from 97 are worth a thousand or so, even if they cost 20,000.

  • @papaown Are retarded? Toyota parts and cars are one of the least depreciating vehicles/ car parts.

  • @Barwinn

That may be true, but do you see a Toyota sticker on this? You can have Toyota parts all you want, but it doesn't have the name lol. Just like Lexus, they are all Toyota parts, but they are extremely fast depreciating value. Should it be that way? Probably not. Is it that way? Yes.

  • @papaown good for people getting them used

My dream car for 25,000 =D lol

  • @papaown The Lotus Elise value depreciate fast.

  • @papaown The lotus elise value depreciates fast?? I didn't know that?

  • @papaown Thats not true! Elise is one of the fasters cars one earth with just 4 cyl.

  • @vendedordepao

Did I ever once say it's slow? Please read.

  • @papaown I think you'll find your wrong . they do not depreciate nearly as fast as many cars on the market you can buy an 06 with 21000 miles for £20000 (when its driven well) from £26000? wouldn't really say they depreciate fast would you?

  • wow nice sound! how many hp?

  • 190hp stock. but the weight is really what counts on the lotus.

  • very nice 190 Hp!

  • With gas prices now, who wouldnt want a "rare" Lotus elise with a RELIABLE toyota engine? granted its not the fastest thing you'd drive, but this is a car you cruise in and get like 25mpg city and 30 highway...whats wrong with that? look at its beautiful curves and shape...its an all out sports car with a fuel friendly engine and and not your everyday boxster. thumbs up on style, engine, fuel consumption and handling.

  • if you care that much about just sound, then u must be a ricer yourself its about the car, the sound is just extra if you're willing to do all that work just to get a different sound, you are a fucking idiot and should never own a nice car

  • i loved lotus elise until i realized it has almost the same engine as my fucking celica. it does sounds exactly like a ricer. guess i will have to spend my money on a Corvette after all :D haha fucking new corvettes are like the best stock car of all time

  • I want a exige but if I get it ill be cramming some other 6 cyl engine in it. Might have to cut the trunk out to fit it but o well. I was thinking a Acura NSX engine would be nice in it. Be faster and put out a exotic car sound.

  • You understand the the NSX is a Honda, and uses vtec right?

  • NSX is like hondas exotic. Thats why a used NSX tranny and engine go for $15,000 plus and a Elise engine+trany goes for like $1500. And theirs a vid on youtube of a exige with a nsx engine in it. they call it a 3.0 engine and dont say its just a nsx engine cause the ywant to make it sound more special than it really is.

  • ????? wait, please just think about what you said..an exotic Honda? sounds a bit of an oxymoron..

just because Honda overprices the value of the engine and transmission does not make it exotic, when, in fact, the Honda Accord also gets the option of the same engine and transmission as the NSX. Does that make the Accord exotic as well? hypothetically speaking, that would be like General Motors stating that any of their vehicles that carry the Vortec engine are more exotic than say, a Ford Focus

  • the reason the price of the 3.0 VTEC, with accompanying transmission, is so high is because of reliability not because it sounds more exotic than a Toyota 4 cylinder

  • reliability? No because its so much better.

  • ...sike

  • lotus elise has to be my dream car!

  • quote ^^ i love elise

  • Dream car? Their cheep. Go buy it.

  • if you close your eyes, you can just imagine some bloke cutting a lot of grass with that motor

  • The Celica with the same Yamaha engine sounds nicer though I think

  • i think it is a toyota engine since 2006 or 05...

  • yeah toyota power =)

  • sounds so fucking great!!!!!! im getting mine in a week but in black

  • is it just me or do these cars sound like shit.

sounds like my old honda civic hatchback i use to drive as a kid?

  • Sounds good but for some reason it sounds just a little bit like a volkswagon but i still love the car

  • Are these the stock elise tail lights??I really want to buy them.Do you know where can i find them..The led ones...

  • I will make Rotary Lotus. It be very nice when I do it.. yes

  • i love my lotus exige, its so badass

  • Its the toyotal celica GTS 1.8L vvtli engine. They should've put a b18c in there instead. Silly lotus...

  • i guess they trust toyota more as toyota is the biggest car manfacturing company in the world...i'm just guessing..hehe

  • Well I guess Toyota trusts YAMAHA because thats who really built it and designed it from the ground up. hehe.

And knowing from experience, this engine is very hard to keep in lift and post good track times. And a honda (b18c or k-series is a lot easier to keep in the high rpm power band)

And thank you for keeping the exhaust stock. I agree with f0rdman a loud buzzing aftermarket system totally ruins this nimble exotic little car.

  • agreed, a vtec would sound so much better in that

  • It would if you like shit.

  • sound but thats about it

  • it's got vvtl-i. it'll do just fine. =]

  • i like the way it sounds stock best. with less constrictive mufflers it's too loud for it's own good.. sounds like a honda. Other than it's bland sound, it's a very quick and aesthetically pleasing car.

  • No, it is not 2stroke. I dont think any car has a 2stroke.

  • Not anymore, there used to be some.

  • Well of course there used to be 2 stroke cars. In natural aspiration.. 2 stroke engines make more power than a 4 stroke, not as much low end torque but much more higher end hp. I remember they were very common in the motorcycles because of the reason above.

  • is this a two strock engine car?

  • Why the hell would it be a two stroke?

  • best sounding elise i've heard

  • and its a toyota motor

  • i love this car ;)

  • Lotus FTW? I think so.

  • nice
