  • The GREAT CARUSO! iT'S NO WONDER he was given that title. Although we've had great ones follow him, none have ever reached his level totally. Whenever I hear him sing, I'm in a dream world as his voice is sooo smooth!

  • Caruso the best!

  • for me this is the best sing version...

  • Sweet vid!!!!!!!! I luv this song!!!!!!!!

  • SUBLIME.

Santa Lucia! Santa Lucia. No one sings this verse as impassioned as does Caruso - esp. tu sei l'impero dell' armonia - you are the empire of harmony. He's magnificent here! And what a great job of remastering. It really works! Great and wonderful post - Thankyou

  • I'd never heard such a good Caruso recording. What a voice!

  • next to caruso , richard tauber, then andrea boccelli these for me are the greatest.

  • @stbridgetscross -Where did you say that you are from. lol

Have you never heard of Gigli,Di Stefano,Bjoerling,Corelli, and at least 50 other better tenors.

  • Yes Tom he had a rare quality not likely to ever be duplicated.

  • @DeltaJoy1 - Yeah, Caruso had some rare qualities - voice and/or empathy - that makes him stand out.

Maybe you'd be interested in a video I uploaded to YT with an interview with Pavarotti where he talks about Caruso.

It also has some very beautiful and very rare performances of Luciano. Search YouTube for "Pavarotti- Enrico Caruso-bel canto" - Tom

  • Classs is just that CLASS; no substitute. Thank you.

  • I love Pavarotti but I think there is a richness to Caruso that I don't hear in Pavarotti.

  • @DeltaJoy1 This a Neapolitan song. Caruso was a Neapolitan....

Pavarotti was really a great tenor and I like him a lot.

Caruso maybe had a rare, very intense, empathetic quality to his singing? At least that is how experience him.

  • His voice sounds so clear in this! I'm not too crazy about the remasterings either (I usually prefer the originals), but this is an exception. A lot of care was taken in making these remastered recordings, and it's all thanks to the technology we have today. I don't think his voice was distorted too much. Some older remasterings (such as ones from the 1930s) distorted his voice pretty badly.

  • One of the most famous Neapolitan songs, sung by one of the most famous natives of Naples. What more can you ask for? This recording is a classic. :) I don't think I've heard a better recording.

  • Genial !!

Caruso , Pavaroti , Mario Lanza , Placido , Jose Carreras , Di stefano !!!

Gracias por la musica MASTERS !!

  • Caruso was genius...

    Amen!(lat)

  • Great sounding recording! Wow.

  • Caruso did this song the best. Nobody hits the high notes like he did.

  • My favorite Caruso recording. Thanks for uploading it.

  • Grande Napoli e Grande Napolitano!!!!

  • The Great Caruso--- I grew up listening to this.. I think of Nonna and Nonno and miss them dearly. God rest their souls.

  • This recording is the best i´ve heard of Caruso's re-mastered originals...BRAVO and pls post more and more of them...thanks, JRT

  • Listen to "Mario Lanza-Santa Lucia (very rare)" and make your own judgment.

  • I LIKE MUCH MORE CARUSSO, I FEEL LIKE PAVAROTTI HAD TO FORCE HIS VOICE, CARUSSO IS MORE NATURAL, MAY BE I AM WRONG, BUT HOW I FEEL LIKE WITH THEM

  • @mgfm46 It's hard to tell, because we can't hear all of the subtleties of Caruso's voice due to the very old recording techniques, where we can hear most of them with Pavarotti recordings(still not like having heard him in person, of course). But you may well be right. Certainly Caruso was one of the best tenors ever.

  • I love this song...

  • love t his to bits i used to sing it through when in was 4 years old Caruso was always my Papa's hero

  • who do you think is better Enrico or pavarotti?...I say both are about maybe equally Great.

  • @technofreak37: I think Caruso and Pavarotti were the greatest of their time. Don't like to compare them - too far apart in time and recording equipment.

  • @tomfroekjaer I agree with you. :)

  • @tomfroekjaer pavarotti had to learn from enrico. so that makes enrico his mentor!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @beshyram Yes, indeed. Pavarotti studied Caruso's singing very intensely. He (Luciano) says in an interview that Caruso is "the base of the building" - you can view the interview by searching Youtube for "Pavarotti- Enrico Caruso-bel canto"

  • @tomfroekjaer A comparison is perhaps possible listening to the particuliar characteristic of the voices trying to ignore the orchestra. The peculiar voice of Caruso is much more beautiful to me. I repeat: just my point of view, of course! Bye

  • @r0i0c0c0e For me the voice of Enrico Caruso and how he laid bare his own soul in his singing is very extraordinary in recorded history. A Neapolitan genious.

  • @tomfroekjaer I agree with you!

  • @technofreak37 ..Caruso-Jussi Bjerling and Gigli..in that order..then Pavarotti

  • @technofreak37 Don't be ridicolous, Pavarotti could not even be named as one of the top 5 tenors of all time. Mario Lanza and Caruso are superior on this particular composition. You can also add Gigli, Del Monaco, and Bjorling to the list who surpass Pav on Santa Lucia and every other musical composition.

  • @technofreak37 Mario Lanza has EVERYBODY beat!

  • @LisaandFranksMom Mario Lanza is My favorite and loved tenor but Caruso is the best and Mario second.

  • @technofreak37 I would think that it would be great to record todays singers on the old technology and see how they sound. That would make for an easier judgement. I loved Pavarotti, and i love Caruso both are two different types of singers. But both recorded in very different ways.

  • this video is awesome, im sing it for a vocal project its one of the best italian operas ive ever heard. Caruso has an awesome voice i wish i had the same anyways enjoy this everyone =)

  • Caruso was the man. :) I know it's been almost 90 years since his death (and more than 100 years after some of his recordings were released), but Caruso remains one of the best singers in music history.

I like the photo of him in this video. :)

  • Does anyone know who the singer who was sick and sang this song for the money to curing? Please tell me, if you know!

  • Oh very awesome folksong generated from bottom of human heart inspirated from God of our Lord, Jesus Christ!

  • no matter how many times I have to write this but if you have the best of everything in one package , I mean the best italian song of all times "Santa Lucia" with the greatest tenor of all times Caruso, you have to admit you are left speechless, Bravissimo Caruso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @beethomozart: absolutely ! Santa Lucia is a real beauty - Neapolitan of course - like Enrico Caruso. Hard to find a better combination !

  • @beethomozart You forget Core ngrato :-P

  • Best of the best

  • My grandfathers family came from Italy, north of Naples, and listening to this really made me think of him. He would have liked this. If you like this look up Carl P Narducci, On myspace it is my grandfather playing the Mandolin :) Rest In Peace, Both of these amazing men...

  • @SpeedingBullet15: checked out your grandfather's playing on MySpace - sounds really great - felt like I was in Neaples !

  • @tomfroekjaer It is quite amazing if I do say so myself. I love this and always will

  • Enrico Caruso. Único.

  • Caruso é simplesmente fantástico!

  • Caruso era simplesmente fantástico!

  • Troppo bello, stupendo Caruso

  • My great grandparents came from Cefalu, Sicily in the late 1889s and early 1990s...my maternal great grandfather was a fisherman in the Mediterranean Sea....as told to me by my father...My grandmother sang this song to me in Italian when I was a child!

  • true. but nobody cares about legos or boogie boards either. OMG UR A NAZI OMG WOW I'M SO SHOCKED AND ANGERY SO MUCH RAGE WOW

  • I get deeply moved either, when I hear a song that I used to hear by my grandmother during my childhood... (I am coming from a greek island)

  • @joedeye that is very nice to know, I am from Sicily, it's a great place: you should come and visit your family's heritage in Sicily. Cefalu is extremely beautiful, and this song is perfect by the sea on a lovely jasmine scented Sicilian evening.

  • @MissAnnieMaverick im picturing what you just said..quante bedda cefalu.

    o cifaluta

  • @vincenz55 :) Yes, Cefalu is really beautiful and not for tourists, only real travelers that love to discover go there...

  • nadie esta a la altura de Caruso

  • On the sea shines the stars of silver

Calm are the waves, sweet are the winds

You come to my little boat

    Santa Lucia! Santa Lucia!

Oddio, I could listen for hours and hours.

  • that's not a true translation

  • @amadeus5889 -- And I, too!

  • absolutely wonderfull

  • Sublime

  • Every time I listen to this song, it puts me in a good mood.

  • absolutley grande Ive cosa più sentito

  • Ahh! I smiled through the whole thing. Thank you, Tom! I was just learning this one in my singing lessons....hahaha....I think I'll go be a plumber! Encrico's vocal tone and perfect speed of vibrato is a constant delight!

  • Interesting I should suddenly decide to upload this (on Friday) ...

  • Fascinating, isn't it?

  • yeah ;)

  • THX

  • Thanks.

  • wonderfulwondwonderfulerfulwonderfulwonderfulwowonderfulnderfulwonderfulwonderfulwonderfulwonderfulwonderful

  • Thank you, Tom. My favorite of all his canzones.

  • You are welcome! Very nice Neapolitan canzone.

  • Pardon if I correct your Italian: It is canzoni.

One canzone. two or due canzoni.

I'm from Italy, not just being obnoxious.

peace, rachel. I had to learn English...wow, that's hard.

  • I learned spanish. how hard do you think it would be to learn Italian?

  • Wow, I don't know. I am native-born Italian and speak English and French but cannot master Spanish. Depends on the person.

    I'm too dumb for it.

  • I don't think you can be too dumb to learn a language. Some of the dumbest people in society are multi-lingual by necessity, and many of them speak Spanish.

  • You can say anything in German as long as your grammar is correct.

Say anything in French you say it with style.

Say anything in Italian say it with passion.

To say anything in English you must spell it correctly.

  • haha!!! love it.
