Too fragile, broken several bits and parts of the laptop. Laptop itself works fine, but not good for gaming as it overheats after about 20 minuted css and starts lagging heavely. my advice: dont buy :)

I bought this laptop thinking that it would be awesome for gaming.... Turns out its not the ultimate machine like Alienware M18x but I would say for entertainment purposes this laptop is certainly the best i have seen.... In terms of playing full HD content i havnt seen a screen that is crispier and more vibrant than this.... This machine gives u an awesome experience with HD content... U wont regret it.... this guy would own every one if only it had a more powerful graphics card...!!!

I have one of those. It has 2 screws on the corner of the leather part and a chipped piece of plastic hanging on there because well airports really know how to take care of expensive stuff! But it's a nice laptop, just that it has a bad case of finger prints and dust.

I was really considering getting this laptop over a mac machine. But, I fell for the Mac Book Pro competitor of this. You really can't go wrong with the metal unibody, and slimline design. And, if you really hate mac (for whatever reason) you can install windows on your mac. I installed Windows 7 Pro. on mine and it works perfect. MBP is also awesome for gaming (in windows and mac.) I really mostly use the mac side of my laptop though. And, you can't get any better costumer service than apple

This Laptop is a total piece of sh1t! I bought this 3 years ago and since buying it it has overheated constantly, I have had 3 motherboards , 3 batteries, 2 power adaptors, and so many software issues it's untrue! Dell refuse to replace the unit. It went out of warranty so I bought another 2 years warranty for £90. I now have to call engineers again as after they replaced the 3rd motherboard the optical drive ceased working!

Do not get this laptop if you are a gamer or anyone that plans on multitasking. I do both and it overheats like a mother******. No wonder they took it off the website. Also compared to the new Xps series (except their crazy specs!), the studio XPS series look zillion times better. I get so much compliments even from MAC users!

I have one of these, 2 years now and love it, spent 3k on it, loaded it. I recently lost my pinch zoom in/out, how do I restore that? Thanks in advance! I love this thing, only gripe is it gets really hot and battery life is not too great. Also, you need to pull the monitor cover off now and then to clean the screen which is a task. I've never opened the bottom of the laptop though, would like to install more memory and a better fan one day.

I just got my studio xps 16 laptop yesterday and I was testing the viewing angles and I must disagree with the comments made about the vertical viewing angle. I was able to watch my screen almost side on the screen, and almost top down and I saw very little if any screen changes. Of course this was over a year later so they may be bettered the screen since this review.

Dell studio xps laptops are indeed pieces of sh*ts.

I have sxps1640 with p8700 hd 4670 and this laptop is throttling all the time in games. Battery when gaming is on "high performance" and laptop is running on AC power almost constantly.

I made mistake and bought dell. Now when I learned the truth about dell quality and stability - I would NEVER do mistake like this again. Avoid dell laptops.

and it has a WLED screen not RGBLED. Some say RGB is better, i havent seen any so i dont know yet! :P

i got mine with specs like urs in middle of 2009 when it came with 512 mb video card, 8 gb ddr ram, 2.93 ghz centrino 2 and 500 gb hard drive. it is good, though won;t play games like GTA without freezing. also had heating issues....good luck

i got the i7 version with a 6 cell battery and ati 5730, not RGBLED

Max brightness, wifi on, youtube playing this video, cpu not throttled - 1h 13min estimated at 99% battery left

20% brightness, wifi on, this video playing, cpu throttled to 40% with active cooling - 1h 40min estimated at 95% battery left

the 9 cell would probably give you about 40-50% more but i decided to go for a 2nd battery since cheaper and will give me 100% more battery rather than 50% on the 9 cell

Nice review. I'm debating between the Studio 16 XPS and the 16.4" Sony VAIO F Series with the i7-740 CPU and GeForce GT 330M graphics. From what I can tell, the Dell has better speakers and the Sony has the 10-key pad. I've never put much stock in notebook speakers, and the 10-key pad only comes in for me on the rare (once a month or so) occasion when I'm working with spreadsheets and finances (taxes). What kind of battery life are you getting and how do you like not having the 10-key pad?

I have been using this model more than 1 year, recently I have some issues with the WIFI connection, it always get disconnected from the WIFI by itself, few times a day, even after I have reconnect it, it only connect to the local network, and wont get to the internet, I must restart the laptop to get back to the internet,why is that so?

I just bought this notebook with the new i5 intel processor and the built in ATI HD grafics card. You hit everything on the spot with this review. Gorgeous screen, gorgeous grafics. Speakers provide great sound and the right volume. Beautiful and very nice quality build and with the new processors it is extremely fast even with 300gb worth of stuff on it. Only con I could find is the battery life. Not too great at 3 hours but I expected it with the size of the screen. Best laptop I've ever owned
