I enjoy all of felt's efforts but this album especially reaches inside me w/ it's tuneful, somber-sober poetic pop-mastery, and this song in particular haunts me in a way that warms my soul. Isn't that wonderful, that something so "sad" could be so lovely and beautiful? Lawrence, my man, you were and are a lyrical and musical craftsman of the highest order. Many thanks.
Not my favourite album album, but this song is definitely one of their best, so many great lines:- Shadows that are falling Are merely angels calling Stones hurled from afar They always reach their mark They never miss They always, always Leave a scar Down an august path The light is fading, trees are shading You from view I can't see you When will you learn That no-one is against you We're all on your side Your tide will return Just beautiful, beautiful lyrics
I've seen Felt live twice in Glasgow, they have the most beautiful song names, the ultimate meltdown guitar, and Lawrence! Heard of them from Mark E Smith, only band he ever said to me he liked, well we we were both mad wae it !
It was this record that helped me fall in love with Felt. The only thing I knew about them was that they had collaborated with the Cocteaus (my other favorite band) and that Robin Guthrie (Cocteau guitarist) described them as brilliant to Smash Hits magazine. Back then locating Felt records in the U.S. was no meager achievement. I had to find mine in San Francisco. And it was beautifully strange to discover that as good as this record is, it pales in comparison to their other work.
