@BvD14624 Each employee has to wear an indicator, which colors when you get unhealthy dose (develops through years, just like medical x-ray operators wear such indicators). After you get a dose, you can't work for a certain amount of time, and after radiation is gone from one's body, they can return to work.
Note that the recommended level of dose a plant employee can be exposed to is sometimes lower than common background radiation. They are safer in there than us out here.
all it does is boil F***ing water. does this come across as STUPID to anyone else ??I meen come on, heat boils water dig a hole and what you get is free heat . FREE!!! also here in washington thanks to Patty Murray she got 10 million dollars to help clean up hanford ( I mean to store ten more years of nuclear waste here) not just ours.
I was wondering does everyone understand what she is saying? A nuclear plant (w/ all it's complicated , dangerous, risk, pollution, maintenance, cost) oh did I mention danger, all it does is boil F***ing water. does this come across as STUPID to anyone else ??I meen come on, heat boils water dig a hole and what you get is free heat . @superklb86 the hole you would need, would to be 1000's of feet deep and then it would lose its heat, yes it sounds stupid, but keep in mind that 3 kg of uranium has the same amount of energy as 2000 pounds of coal, not only that but with gen. 4 reactors they can reuse the waste rods from other nuclear plants
@coalandnuclear how deep . steam correct- hot springs are 1000's of feet down . i would have never guessed . besides there are many ways to make water boil. solar wind tide hydrogen methanol (from hemp) all would be cheaper, also what does it cost (total) to make , store handle etc 3 kg of uranium & reactor. but i have to say nuclear takes the cake . well at least were using the DU somewhere, by giving it to the military to spread all around in there ammo.
@superklb86 i think the best upside to nuclear is that refueling only takes place every 2 to 3 years depending on size, that means almost no downtime. with wind and tide, mainteance is extremely high and offten, solar is almost completly useless as it doesnt make much power at all. i agree the methanol from hemp would be great, but the gov. doesnt think so, to be honest hydro dams are about the best, make insane power, low downtime. and almost any country can have them

do the reactors expose radiation to employees? if so is it daily, and enough to give them cancer
BvD14624 11 months ago
@BvD14624 no, because the reactor is under water, with 2 meter cement covers over it.
Dharok60 11 months ago 3
@BvD14624 A properly running nuclear reactor is completely safe. If it suffers a meltdown, that's entirely another story.

so why was this not done in Japan. (turned off)?
superklb86 11 months ago
@superklb86 because it can take up to a week or even months for the reactor to cool down to a low temp.

can it be turned off if a natural disaster were to occur ?
superklb86 11 months ago
@superklb86 Yes, the control rods would be dropped into the reactor core stopping the nuclear fission from happening.

This is interesting despite being sort of boring in its display and the fact that I think all nuclear power plants are eyesores.
Urmum55 2 years ago
@Urmum55 Well, why don't you design a fuckin' park plan for future nuclear plants and submit it?
beeroosterm 1 year ago
@beeroosterm
I will. there will be radioactive rollercoasters and a "RADicle" club. It'll be awesome.
