  • nigeria is a country where a small idea can turn you into a millionaire. tell ya

  • i like.

  • OMG.PAUSE AT 08:40 LOL

  • GO NOLLYWOOD

  • As a Black American I bought some "Nollywood" DVDs in Oklahoma City. I enjoyed them all! One video was a Christian video about evil vs good. It was one of the best videos I've ever seen in over 30 years! I'm very proud of Nigerian film makers. It's only a matter of time before Nigeria overtakes Hollywood. Plus the religious videos of Nollywood really emphasize the truth about the evil spiritual world. Many Americans have been fooled to not even believe in Satan anymore! God bless Nigeria!!!

  • @Race4Holiness now this is what we want to hear.. makes a change i can tell you .. lol!

  • @Race4Holiness ...I watch nollywood but it would never take over hollywood.

  • Where is Van Vicker? I guess he is still too new.

  • what is the song being played at 05:07-05:18

  • I just love, love, love Nollywood movies. I can't get enough of them. I know I'm from another part of the world, but I wish I could be in one!!!

  • Why do media always concentrate on negativity. Even when trying to report a happy story, they found poor Nigerians and showed the slums of Nigeria opposed to the beauty. Not saying poor don't exists, but some Americans are poor too. How would they like it if I did a story on Hollywood and went to the slums ans ghettos of America to ask for their opinions. The poor are important, but they are not the Entire Nigeria story.

  • @susan1vanity

That's western media for me. Their type of thinking goes like this, Oh no oh no. Africa has to be shown as a cesspole, we cannot show our country's people that, just like the west, Africa has good and bad areas. Nope nope. They do not even show the bad ghetto areas of their country to Africans, everyone in africa has to think, the west is sugar and rainbows and everyone in the west has to think africa is evil and needy. That's how the west media operates. Negativity.

  • @Naijagurl089

I agree. There must be something really good about Africa that the West doesn't want the world to know. You learn this rule when you are an American. If they say something is bad, then it is good. If they say something is good, then it is bad. Always believe the opposite.

  • @susan1vanity

Exactly. Any documentary i watch about a foreign nation, whether in Africa, Asia or Middle East, i make sure i ask the people from that nation before believing it.

The West just love to badmouth others and never themselves. At least they redid this documentary, it was still crap but at least they had real nollywood actors and actresses this time.

  • @Naijagurl089 in africa we have a very rich culture that the whites r jealous of. we are caring and we love one another and we dont start fight with other countries. i am proud to be african!! woo hooo go africa!!!

  • @lindylou089 Aren't there a ton of armed conflicts in Africa right now?

  • @ceXhc ton of what conflict???? what are the names of the country fighting?!! i think your mistaken africa for a different continent. i don't remember the last time i heard on the news that theres war or conflict going on in africa.

  • omgg was that my girl gene & w/ jim iyke carrying her?? lol i always thought they'd be a cute couple in real life...

  • Lagos is not the capital Nigeria, Abuja is! And Abuja looks nothing like Lagos

  • The lady at 4:16 is very funny..She said 'I gonna be a Star,a really star" she no fit speak English self, how she go take become star...Well she said In Jesus Name maybe it might be but I cann't stop laughing at that Comment

  • damn at the end ken is hott!!

and i love genevieve, genny all the way!

    naija 4 life! :)

  • that lady at 4:34 is hilarious!!!

nollywood has some stiff competition now. so many good actresses. i dont think she is good enough.

    but hey!

loving this documentary!! its cool to see nollywood.

but this video is old. since 2007 nollywood has been booming even more and has changed.

    but thanks anyway.

  • AJ tell them. happy they met you so you can tell it how it really is. One Love One Jungle. Up Ajegunle.

  • hi from the Czech republic this is first time i hear about nollywood, id like to see some movie

  • ask some nigerian friends around u or here on youtube, type nigerian movies and pick anyone dat interest u... if u need help in choosin good nigerian films, u can call on me... xx

  • I love these films. I watch them everyday and it is very entertaining. The men and women are very good actors. There better than the American movies. They have very good writer.

  • nollywood takes its stories from romance and love, marriage, african situations that are about us.. yoruba films are a bit different as its about the yoruba culture so they tend to emcompass all sorts of issues . we have a world wide audience from the middle east to the carribean and some black americans are begining to discover our existence but because of the production values they tend to be dismissive . when i was at unilag they had a thriving theatre programme over 30yrs ago.

  • Yoruba films are about juju and infidelity....that's what makes the difference ......I'm NOT knocking it , just stating the facts! people watch them for that reason!!

  • Nollywood films also have their own version of native medicine represented as well... not knocking that too just stating the facts people also watch them for that reason also.

  • true talk!, but like YOU said....the emphasis is on romance/commedy!

    PEACE!!

  • Too much unnecassry grammar in this video from that Rasta man to Remy, the chief administrator guy. Remy kept saying unnecessary things. What is "That distinguishes me from another set of HUMAN BEINGS" WT HEFF? lol

  • i totally agree

  • this commentor is very wrong.... people did not stop going to the cinemas because of fear of being attacked. pls get ur facts right!

  • @uriems2020 they are racist assholes

  • Clerks,El Mariachi, and The Blair Witch Project were made by 1st time directors with less than $20,000 budget. ALL went on to be global hits.

Can't a young naija director write a GREAT script within budget. Hollywood loves to "discover" talent. He'd have that "African" thing on his side as an advantage cause they love "foreign" stories.

You don't need a HUGE budget o make a good movie.Look at 12 Angry Men.Just one location, whole movie in 1 room, but every single second of it grabs ur attention

  • Hum..you can't compare 20k, yes but with a nice editing , good sound, pretty picture and actual good web promo for the movie.

i think the 9ja directors need to start building actual movie sets, they have plenty of space to build those and buy some good sound equipment and lighting material.they need to share tasks, even on this one shot you could hear most people yelling ( and they were just recording a busy street) lol! double dealings and bad management NA WAO!

  • i feel u man, i ask myself the same question everyday. ive seen movies shot with a $400 camcorder (hv 20) that look waaaaaaaaaay better than naija movies.

  • Check out Clerks, El Mariachi,Blair Witch Project too see how a low budget and simple premise. With no large crew or sets or huge budgets, can become international hits. All had budgets of less than $20,000.

Are u telling me that a young naija director can not write a fascinating script around his budget and replicate the success of these guys? He will have the "African" thing on his side.Hollywood loves to "discover" people, especially third world talent.

In the age of digital, it's much easier.

  • There are so many fascinating stories about Naija life that can be told. But they do not take the time to write GREAT scripts that can compete internationally.Think of the bigger picture and not imitation to continental Africa and African audience in diaspora. Many of us remember the boarding house stories.going to lesson and many other childhood experiences. Imagine if they are scripted greatly, acted excellently and produced with both Naija and international audience in mind.

  • The industry is only 15 yrs old...relax.

  • 2.31 lol

  • This documentary was produced by austrlian people (Who I find very racist). Thats why they have the guts to chat so much rubbish. It sickens me when they always shove negative information about Nigeria, down the throats of the audiance. I mean CAN'T THEY FOR ONCE SHOW THE GOOD THINGS THAT MAKES OUR COUNTRY?. As much as I love nigerian films, the only fault I have with them, is that they do not take their time to produce their movies anymore.

  • Do they know how hard it is to keep up the pace?

Nigeria is moving with time, but these devils do not see any positive achievement.God will punish

all foreigners that says bad things about nigeria and nigerians.

  • Nollywood must do 3 urgent things

    1. Improve the picture and audio quality

    2. Stop copying the same old films and stories under different titles.

    3. Stop the gradual but steady slide into pornography.

  • and 4) Stop copying western mannerisms.

  • Why did they subtitle them as if we can all understand the narrator?

  • lol that's a good thought

  • I can't remember the last time I went to the cinema-no need! Give me Nollywood any day!

Why should I pay into a European,or American industry ,that under represents black people,as a whole, talkless of Nigerians!

I want something that I can "FEEL",and NOLLYWOOD does that. And as for that so called singer, slagging off Nollywood,it's obvious he tried acting and failed,so he's now turned to singing(if you can call it that!).

  • I say Amen, and Amen! I'm African-American, but I love all my brother and sisters. It does my heart good, to see my family-members in Nigeria, taking destiny into their hands, and making stories about their lives, by their own people!

    God Bless Nigeria.

    God Bless Nollywood!

May it always STAY positive, and represent the true black experience.

  • "I'm African-American, but i love all my brother and sisters" we acknowledge your support and appreciate your love. Now, haven said that, i am not sure exactly what that comments suppose to suggest? the "but" in there (now i don't want to assume) got me thinking that you are infact a nigerian who is in denial i.e you were born overseas with nigerian parents and my impression is that you don't think that you're a full blown nigerian.

    Cheers

  • I'm not Nigerian, and neither are my parents. The comment wasn't meant to "suggest" anything, other then admiration from a black sister, in the Americas. :)

  • @FluffTheArtist I`m African American as well and glad to see great things like this in Nigeria

  • a bulk of Lagosians do not live in slums,so this journalist is dead wrong on that.

  • Have you watched any video from this journeymanpictures.

Never once, i've seen anything Good in any of the video.

Never once i've i seen any video from them talking about the positive of Nigeria or anyother African country.

Hell they even blamed Nigeria for what Tanzania people are doing(Killing their own ppl for Voodoo).

Waste of time, if you except them to say or do anything positive.

  • I mean seriously Nigeria economy is increasing.

I haven't seen that in their news.

Nigeria is now labeled a 'Frontier Emerging Market' by IMF.

I still haven't seen that in the News

    Africa economy is increasing

    Still not in western news.

If it wasn't for allafrica(dot)com. I wouldn't even keep up with what's really happening in Africa.

It's a waste of them expecting anything positive from Western Media unless it's about USA or Europe.

  • This journalist is a fucking bastard. Every city has slums. He's talking about Lagos like the whole of it is slum. He probably doesn't even have enough money to live in the high brow areas in lagos. Westerners always talk about the negativity of Africa. Who allows them to do all these documentaries? They need to be banned!! Shit!!

  • why nigerians always mentioned "London" as a country instead of a city....the right is England or Britain.... not London... right?

  • bec i h to am a gangs s

  • it is not the ghetto, it is the real Nigeria where most regular people live. Go there and see that for urself. Take it from an American girl who went to hs in Nigeria. Only the rich live in cleanner hoods

  • Does Hollywood always show the negative ghettos in America, of course not...

  • I agree we need films that appeal to us.

Nollywood is great! Not picturing negative things only about africa but showing the real west african life. It especially appeals to west africa. as a west african you can recognise everything being told.

  • fuck i hate this western media. nothing full of bias, redicule & bs.i love nollywood bcus it tells me bout my people and believe be it a negative scenerio or not.why should i watch d same recycled indivdualistic junk of super heros, that pays no regard to my existence or whatever.only seeking for d worse in africa & comparing it 2 their best, bastards.trust nigerians to put them in their place with our egoism.practise makes perfect & once we realise d gains, we can tell our stories to the fullest.

  • It was produced by ABC Australia, so that's why they are mocking african efforts rather than reporting about it.

  • great

  • Nollywood films are basically telling African stories by Africans. They donot seek to be anything than African. That is why they appeal so much to Africans.Because it is a reflection of our true daily reality of life.

  • Invest today in Nollywood.

  • That cool, I like that they are pursuing something that they have a passion for. But my only thing is why is everybody so Europeanized. All that straight wigs, etc. You still have to have afrikan sprituality at the center, not to lose knowledge of self in european hemogony.

  • and bad wigs n shit.

  • DANNY!

  • its nice to see whats happening around the world, from an unconventional perspective.great stuff.

  • LOL wow I never heard of nollywood before cool video

  • Thanks for posting this! I enjoyed watching it!

  • thats cool its nice to see that some ppl dont conform to the hollywood norm and do their own thing.
