Well, that's fair enough, it's what you like. Personally I'd rather have no ears if it was all I could listen to. There are some exceptions, I'm not so closed minded I won't make the effort but generally it just isn't for me.
@Shyamini1000 yet it will, you are only speaking from your own opinions, the FACTS are that any some written by any genre, Black metal always does it better.
@Yonraththeblack Right, I've just listened to Cradle of Filth's Temptation and, Ill hate myself for saying this, quite liked it. Heaven 17 do it better and I don't become bored with it, but their version wasn't unlistenable.
@Yonraththeblack Look what you've done to me, I've been listening all evening, and now I really like it. I still prefer Heaven 17, thank God, but there you go.
Glenn Gregory is gorgeous and adorable and this band are brilliant, they make most 80's music sound like the shite so much of it clearly must have been. A breath of fresh air.
@Shyamini1000 Considering this was very typical of the grandeur that was 1980s music, I don't know why you think the majority of it to have been "shite". Some was a bit lightweight, and American stuff was noticeably different to British, but in general, following the music scene back then was exciting. Not like the garbage of the decades ever since.
@alfredagain What I've heard that comes under the 'shite' category IMO is stuff like Matt Bianco, Joboxers, Bananarama, China Crisis, Go West, Kajagoogoo, Culture Club, Flock of Seagulls, Deacon Blue,Thompson Twins, the list is endless really. The good stuff, for me, is Heaven 17, of course, Gary Numan, New Order, Bauhaus, Joy Division, Talk Talk, some Tears for Fears, REM. The crap is all UK stuff and mostly the good stuff, apart from REM. British crap is a bit worse than US crap.
@Shyamini1000 I see the distinction between the two categories, although I liked and loved the vast majority of 1980s music, especially British. I suspect you'd have liked Echo and the Bunnymen, the Psychedelic Furs, the Cure, and hated Hazy Fantazy, Marilyn, and maybe Soft Cell. Can't agree 1990s music was generally better, since that was when rap and slow jams came into their own and are still making me sick to this day. Yee-ech!
@alfredagain I can't believe I left the Bunnymen off my list, they were one of the best of that decade. I don't know Hazy Fantazy or Marilyn. The Cure have done some good stuff and I don't know much Soft Cell, though I like a song they did called Torch, which I think is from the early eighties. I will look up the Psychedelic Furs, great name, too. Contemporary music is bland, apolitical, meaningless and won't leave much behind, which is something, I suppose.
@alfredagain There's been plenty of rubbish since, I absolutely agree but I think 90's music was of a highter standard generally, but there hasn't been anything massively standout for ages ( apart from, for me at least, the Arcade Fire.) But Heaven 17 had and have something very specific and special and they actually wrote good songs which had meaning and were intelligent, including social and political commentary which was insightful rather than just aggressive and hostile.
I always have to give props to where music began, and I do. I of course love the Cradle of Filth cover of this being a huge metal fan, and I definitely give massive props to the band for being able to listen to this and separate the lyrics from the music to find the dark, devious side of it. Anyone who's seen the video or heard the cover of this, even if you're a huge fan of this version you cannot deny how Cradle did this song justice, especially by telling it through the story of Adam & Eve.
@angelicbaby92 Cradel of Filth isn't extreme metal at all, their just a heavy metal band with different influences, but if you want extreme metal then look at the technical death metal bands, not heavy metal, lmfao./
@goodnamepending Extreme metal does not only include death metal. It's a loosely based term that includes thrash, black, death, doom which is more EXTREME than heavy metal. They have blast beats and double bass drumming as well as false chords screams continuously or super high pitched screams.Cradle of filth actually does not fit in any specific category of extreme metal but they do have elements of death metal, black metal, and even a bit of gothic.Do you even listen to them?
@goodnamepending Cradle of filth's themes usually include that of rape, vampyrism, death, blood, temptation, lots of stuff which heavy metal doesn't incorporate. That's extreme metal ya know. It has a feel of evil, doom, brutal, anger. And the entire song is usually screaming. If you used their cover of this song temptation as your ONLY basis for their ENTIRE sound, then you don't even have the right to say that they are heavy metal. THIS IS by far their slowest song yet.
@goodnamepending Listen to Cthulhu Dawn, Lord Abortion, The Forest Whispers My Name, All Hope lies in Eclipse. omg there are so many songs that are simply amazing by them and are the best. But just to name a few if you don't even know their songs at all, then you'll see if you listen to those on youtube. Demonstrates their sound perfectly.
Jesus, all this "Heaven 17 version is better" and "Cradle of Filth version is better"...it's driving me mental. To each his own, but stop fighting about it. Surely CoF must of liked the original enough to do a cover of it, yeah? Good, now stop your moaning.
I love this song. It has to be one of favourites of all time. If you've seen Glenn Gregory around these days, he doesn't have all that lucious blonde hair he used to. So, he looks nothing like Malfoy anymore.

limp buizkit can suck my balls. they would probs be good at it too because they are the masters of sucking. if you like them fair enough but god knows any cover they did was not better than the original no matter who sang it
I love this song so hard. VH1 released like 10 DVDs of All Time Classics. This ended up in this collection. I either already knew and loved the songs or they were generic rubbish of the time. Out of the entire 10 DVDs, this song (with only one or two others) were the only songs that were new and amazing hidden gems of the past. Heaven 17, I knew of you but didn't know this song. To do a cover dosnt mean they have to do it like the original. If a black metal band did it like this they'd be forced into retirement! Cof gets enough flak for covering this song as it is.
@Radicalalaska indeed, these are two totally different genres so of course theyre not gonna sound identical, their take on this song is very original but is still fairly faithful to the original
