sorry, i never got into so much of overclocking this notebook as it does it's job with the games of its time! You can possibly download the asus turbo gear program from asus themselves on the website which is just for the CPU its self, i have tried some other programs with overclocking the gpu but had no success other than the GPU underclocking its self from stock settings. now, i just play games that this GPU/CPU can handle. sorry if it wasnt much help, its been awhile since then
Dude, I own a G72GX, but when I set to overclocking mode, at Bad Company 2, my conection starts to lag a lot, I cant even play.. Do you know what might could be?

@Amel22 well for me the only time i can not overclock is when i am not plugged to the wall, on battery power you can not overclock, so maybe thats why? other than that, i am not to sure sorry!
@650sFinnest Either CPU or GPU are at a standards of speed that is locked by the manufacturer. Overclocking means to unlock those standards to faster ones. Lets say i have 1 ghz processor, it is meant to be used as 1 ghz, but you can overclock it to 2 ghz. so you can save money in overclocking, but if you don't have good heatsink then your processor lifespan will decrease.
i have the turbo gear for my asus g72gx 2.53 Ghz laptop. if i overclock it to 10-15% will it damage my laptop AT ALL. I want this computer to last a decade and i dont want overclocking to hurt it at all in the long run. Anybody with any advice/expericnce let me know. i cant find anything on google. thanks
in terms of damaging the notebook not at all. for the first half year i had this i been using turbo gearr for gaming. but since i hardly ever even play games right now, i dont use it anymore. but there are times when i did use turbo gear and let it run like that all day no issues. so i would say it will be fine. unless your cpu is bad... i dont know haha.
is it free to download off the site? because the laptop i'm getting is refurbed it might not come with it. also does this laptop have a built in MIC? THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE :)
yes the turbo gear is a free app for this notebook. and the similar 15" brother... there is a mic... but poorly designed if i might add. if im not to sure when i try recording at normal talking volume you hear nothing, i have to yell at the screen to get any input.. im not to sure if the mic is on the mic of the lcd (on the lid behind the camera it self) if so poor design.. lol, go buy a cheap mic as it will be better no input feed back from notebook fans and what not. i have turtle beach X1's
the asus turbo gear comes with this notebook as well as other asus notebooks i believe, this is just for the CPU it self and is very limited to specific overclock settings. if it is not installed you have to go to the asus download site, and download turbo gear per operating system vista/ or windows 7. if need further help just ask.
combat arms runs great on this notebook, no need to worry about performance issues here. most notebooks can run combat arms.. this notebook isnt any ordinary notebook i tell you that lol... GTX260m handles pretty much most.
is the notebook plugged into the wall.. when its not on the wall it wont let you overclock the CPU.
other than that if its disabled i thing there might be an option in the bios to enable it.. if im not mistaken, but dont count on it you can enable or disable it from the bios..
dude turbo gear doesnt even let you "MAX" out the cpu.. its only a 15% boost... its not going to do much. if you want better rendering look for a better processor or Overclock the CPU your self. but i wouldnt do anything like that in my notebook lol. HEAT!!
im in no intentions of overclocking my gpu in this notebook. and overclocking the CPU helps on some games.. take for instance when i play COD4, OC the CPU wont give much of a fps boost maybe not at all but i know it helps keep my fps stable, when playing cod4 online my fps tends to drop once in awhile but when i clock it up it helps keep my game running smooth then also a GTX260m plays games pretty well, so im not complaining BWAhahahahahahahahaha DICK!
I ordered mine yesterday from eBay, after a long research of about 2 weeks I found there's nothing better for your money out there, if budget is a limit you definitely want this baby with you. Same specs for an alienware would probably double or more the price, pay twice to have your notebook with the alienware logo?
how you getting the new G72's?? if so why not, it costs the same as when my G71 came out. but the laptop is awesome like i always say, i got my windows 7 upgrade and did a CLEAN INSTALL by booting from the cd, so my computer performs better than on vista. in terms of gaming performance i mean its nothing noticeable but the system all in all does perform better. downsides... not that i know of lol.

uhm, i dont have that command. but if anything, most times if your computer is asleep, just press the power button once should wake it up. thats what i do normally if my computer goes to sleep. try it out see if it works if not im not to sure.

if so then my notebook would get a bit higher scores with a P8700 2.5ghz, with turbo gear clocking it to 2.88Ghz., and this notebook i have has 6gb ram. with the same gtx260m card, so i bet you can get higher scores just based off the CPU it self.
yes the version i have theG71GX-RX05 has a P8700 2.5GHz clocked up to 2.88ghz for gaming.. Im not to sure of what the new asus books have, since i bought this one i havent really needed to pay attention to anything new, as this notebook is great. runs awesome.

yeah dont worry about it thats normal... like you know how our cpu rated a 2.53Ghz... CPU-z normally reads a lower limit... possibly the way the intel chips save energy by automatically running lower while not doing anything. and again like i said it wouldn't show the 2.88Ghz the whole time. so don't fret lol.. also, where i find this 15% overclock work well is playing COD4 online, at 2.53Ghz its hard for the fps to stay a constant, but when on the overclock setting it holds the fps well.
are you sure that it never works? what are you using to see if it overclocks? like me i use CPU-Z are you using that? if so, for instance with me, the stock is at 2.53ghz right, when i overclock i wont see it go to the 2.88ghz right away it will stay under until i play some games then it will show the 2.88ghz.
you mean in the turbo gear application, you cant choose overclock?? you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for it?? possibly im not to sure, i havent had that issue. try using the quick media button for it... the 3rd lit up button with the guy running and lightning bolt under it...

i have a g71gx and i NEVER EVER had a bio problum i did get the bsod a few times with the razer deathadder fireware update but i moved the files into a flash drive and i use the driver that way now with no bsod
i have never had a BSOD on this notebook since purchase day, and have never runned into BIOS issue like the overheat issue people had in the early stages. purches july 27, 2009, and had no issues since then. so yeah for me its been a perfect notebook.
there are 2 ways as i know of, using Asus Live Update which will download the BIOS automatically and then does its thing, you need to know what to do, once after it flashes the bios, in the bios menu that is. i actually forgot since i havent done so for awhile but, i can forward you my old post on the asus forum i have later.
the 2nd way is to do everything yourself, go to the asus download section and find the bios.. very simple, just make sure you get the right bios... as i have the Best Buy version, you want to make sure if you do to , to look into the best buy version of the G71 , download the bios, and do the flashing and what not, i have really no clue what its called, only did 2 bios updates since i bought it.. and since then, ASUS LIVE UPDATE doesnt show anything new, but there is!!!
what you can do is go into task manager, and end the process.. then go to the start button and find your way to the all programs/asus/turbogear and open it from there.. you can try that. other than that i dont know why its not working for ya. should work just fine.

dude turbo gear doesnt even let you "MAX" out the cpu.. its only a 15% boost... its not going to do much. if you want better rendering look for a better processor or Overclock the CPU your self. but i wouldnt do anything like that in my notebook lol. HEAT!!

I got g51vx-rx05. I only have a week to return it, so that I can get g71vx-rx05. It's a liitle big. So, if its not much better, I won't switch.

I'm worrying about bottlenecking. 2.0 is kinda on the low side. Many good games require 2.5 Ghz for best performance..so

i just do benchmarks to see if it overclocked. and i never saw a difference between when i OC and on normal mode. were did you get that CPU-Z

again, its all in the specs, and what you prefer.
I wanted a bigger notebook for once. so i got it.
it has more ram, and a duo core that people say is better for gaming at this time???
my personal preference on the G51 is that i dont like the palm rest area that has the rubbery texture going on... some may do I dont. lol
so yeah, make you choice. I would say get the G71, i believe that most all the issues have been fixed with the latest BIOS updates.
