I hadn't seen this interview in a long time. Thanks for posting it. They don't make them like that anymore. They had the nerve to try to make remake of it and you can't of course. The remake failed because the orginial was brilliant.
Not a day passes in my life that I am not surrounded by his music. I am grateful to have been born in the world with him in it. Yes I am a shameless adoring fan.
@SuzyZ Me, too. I just discovered my connection to his songs a couple years ago (although I grew up in the 60's hearing him in my father's house I didn't get it at the time) Now in my mid 50's I appreciate the romance of the lyrics and the warmth and understanding of his delivery of these timeless songs. It's almost impossible to explain to someone who doesn't get it. Frank gets inside your soul.
So what if he was a womaniser or involved in mob activity? Look, he was a fine entertainer and singer and the music world is a better world for having him in it.
@62easthar62 I think everyone kissed his ass. He radiated the message that that was the way to deal with him. He was a larger than life performer and thus surrounded by sycophants. Regardless, he was brilliant.
he had a long interesting life and gave us songs, films, fashion styles, love stories ,hate stories. and he has been gone for too many years now and we still talk about him...
. before Elvis, before the Beatles, before rock and roll, frank was around. and we are bloody lucky he was. love ya frank
so as for the Mafia, the ex wives, the bad treatment, well guess what? he was just a human. love him hate him but at least hear the bloke sing.

Amazing thing that JFK not only gave his blessings for this film, but he also had even more to do with another John Frankenheimer classic, "7 Days in May". He not only strongly encouraged producer and star Kirk Douglas to do the film, but he also made the oval office and other parts of the White House available to the film's designers.
Fascinating discussion of a truly great picture between writer George Axelrod, director John Frankenheimer, and actor Frank Sinatra. "The Manchurian Candidate" is a shockingly fantastic movie and easily Sinatra's best film. Frankenheimer's other real masterpieces were"The Island of Dr. Moreau," with Marlon Brando in the mid-90s, and the 1957 live teleplay "The Comedian" with Mickey Rooney.
@BlackenedForLife No one is perfect. While he may have had his bad moments, he may have done some bad things, I've no idea--- but I do know he also helped alot of people. It's too easy to sit back and judge others when you don't really know them.
@BlackenedForLife he gave millions to charity all through his life and after his death. He was not a saint but there was a lot of good to him which hardly was publicized.
@thegreeniydbandit how about all the good things frank did during his lifetime? he fought for equal rights, was against racism, helped many people he never knew, gave millions to charity, helped down and out actors and strangers he read about in the paper. There was a lot of good to sinatra to all of his faults.
Greil Marcus wrote a great essay about this movie and the myriad ways it's permeated American culture since its release.
There are many coincidences surrounding the film and its central theme of political assassination. For instance, the film came out prior to John Kennedy's assassination and wasn't shown for decades afterward. And Robert Kennedy was visiting John Frankenheimer's Malibu home the day he was shot, and Frankenheimer was at the Ambassador Hotel that night where RFK was killed.
Angela was actually 3 yrs. older than Laurence Harvey, not one, but it's great they praise her. She was wonderful and it's hard to imagine anyone else playing the mother. Frank seems to be on cortisone here, but is articulate, reflective... one of our great film actors, Oscar nonwithstanding, still underrated.
I think Sinatra comes across very well here, charming man with a real intrest and a passion for the project they are discussing. I just love the power and presence of the guy and the nerves the other guys are showing as they are talking to the living legend. Very intresting interview.
@joeysmokey Yeah right. You can see they are both relaxed but a bit of fear that someting doesnt go wrong with the interview. I mean Frankenheimer is a legend too,
One word describes this man: Legend

What a phony Sinatra was!
Anf the way Frankenheimer and Axelrod squat and kiss his ass. No shame, no self-respect.
