Cobra isn't a hoax at all, it's one of the best systematic approaches to free improvisation. Zorn starts off with the call cartoon trades, which are short cartoonish sounds that imitate warner brothers. There are loosely 20 calls, that all create completely different situations for improvisors.
This is one of the great hoaxes ever perpetuated on the public. Every fucking COBRA sounds the same. This is no different. The opening is the perfect COBRA cliche.
