To all surfers:dont et this camera if you are planning on taking it out in the surf, i had it for abut 2 months then it gave out and the screen went blank white its a piece of shit camera

The Sanyo Xacti WH1 is supposed to be able to go down to 10 feet. It's a little bit more expensive but it's also got 30x zoom and some other bonuses. I think if you want something that'll go even deeper, you'll be needing to get a camera that specializes in underwater filming which becomes expensive. :) I'm planning to buy the xacti myself.

its just a novelty camera, it can go underwater yay, but the image quality sucks, and fulled with errors, and the software is crap, and its too small and hard to controll.

...BUT it can go underwater, and you CAN drop it..

WARNING: Beware opening battery door in humid atmosphere! Moisture will enter, allowing condensation inside lens space. Ruined my best shots taken in Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. *There is no advice in User Manual on humidity access via openings. Took a few secs to swap batteries. No wet fingers, just moist air. If known would have used silica gels in a sealed bag. Indicator test showed no water got inside. Camera a week old. Panasonic rejects that cam is not fit for purpose. Mike O'R Australia.

I bought this camera and it failed 20 minutes in the first time I used this camera. Panasonic says that its testing could not find the fault and therefore was not repolacing the (ruined ) camera. DO NOT BUY this camera. Junk Junk Junk

"keep shootin' the fish all day long" From the PANASONIC guy? Shouldn't he know you're not supposed to submerge it for more than 1 hour or it is no longer under warranty and may leak? Also, there are other underwater camcorders- the new Sanyo Xacti e2 is one of them.

both aren't very great. the xacti is probably much better, but i wouldn't buy any of the two cameras just because of the waterproof feature.

I freakin got this camera and it cannot go only 5 feet.i know because i took it 20 feet in a pool all day and that was a week ago, with it still opperating 100 percent! they just say 5 feet to be safe i think.

i agree i'm getting one for my 12th vid, It depends what kind of water and what the property of the water is... So if its under 5 feet the water can and might leak inside because of the depth, or usually not, if panasonic said you can go deeper, (and if it breaks) They probably dont want to give back the money for like putting the camera for deep sea diving.

ya your right once they know the actual depth they minus like 15 from it to be safe but really you can always go deeper (just be careful)

you got to be kidding me? 5 feet? what a joke....veecam makes a waterproof,shock proof viedo cam that is rated to 50 meters underwater,and also works at -20 degrees. the only bad part is that it cost $1,600.00 but hy you get what you pay for

But thats the point- the PRICE point... this isn't for professionals. This is for the average user to use when snorkling or playing poolside. Another benefit being you can record on a rainy day- so maybe you're an amateur filmmaker with aspirations of chasing actors around on in a storm... etc. This panasonic runs slightly less than the Xacti E1 Waterproof camera but the Xacti has better quality and comes in 4 colors- if that matters to anyone...
