Normie Rowe & Coles supermarkets have absolutely murdered this song for their new ad. If you are going to watch it, I suggest you bring a rope to hang yourself....
Managed to catch these guys live oh probably 7 or 8 times from 69 to 72...some of the best shows I ever saw...and hey I will be one of the few to admit I actually DIDN'T see them at Woodstock...picked the wrong summer to take the once in a lifetime chance to study in Europe and missed the once in a lifetime rock event eh...
yes im an idiot, and proud to be not to like the crap that you think is great, seems you believe in the white dominated music media which has bigged up the who ect over the years, pushing aside the real guitar heroes, and black blues guys who shit all over there white 60's counterparts, as for townsend, he nicked the power chord from LINK WRAY and fucked it up, and just because the live at leeds was voted best album (by Who?) dont mean its the best ever, and thrash chords aint important either
Over many years of hearing/reading deluded statements from various people and various documentary's that say they know what there talking about regarding the Who etc and in particularly, Pete Townshend's guitar playing, i've come to the conclusion that he is one of the most uninspiring and technically difficient guitar players me and my friends have ever heard, and listening to this version of SHAKIN' ALL OVER is a disgusting debuncle of a great song, Johnny Kidds in hell burning with anger
@SINNERSTRONG Right on, son. The Who were, are and remain THE most overrated band of all time and this particular "cover" version stinks the house out. Townshend should stick to what he does best - and we all know what that is, don't we!
And I have come to the conclusion you are an idiot. First of all, live at leeds is and has been voted one of the greatest live albums of all time. Other great artists, rolling stone and virtually everyone else with any merit will tell you. As far as Pete is concerned, he is one of the most IMPORTANT guitar players of our time. Townshend. Pete took power chords to a new level, he basically invented feedback within modern music. A leader in punk music and rock itself!
I'm always reading "Drunkin'esk remarks degrading musicians who sold out concerts and millions of records being cursed and ridiculed!" If you don't like it, just listen to who you LIKE, and then ppl won't have to listen to your constant complaining.
I'M OVER 60. I SAW ALL OF THE BANDS AND PICKING THE BEST ISN'T POSSIBLE, BUT "LIVE" THEY WERE IN THE TOP 3! THEY WERE F**KING SERIOUS! NOBODY WAS BETTER'S AS CLOSE AS I CAN GET. 4 lead players battling for top billing. These guys were SO wound up, it's no wonder Kieth Moon was just what they needed to make them so perfectly WILD!
@stoprejectingmynames - I love this album. Alot of sound for guitar, bass and drums. However, i'll take Humble Pie Performance Rockin the Fillmore as the best ever.
no no no this song was written by johnny kidd and the pirates as a piss take to gene vincents nervous twitch, hence late 50's jamming session and watching an old git called gene shakin all over the stage. actually true
@blueeyedjohn1 i read somewhere johnny said it was inspired by how when they'd look at a pretty girl, they'd say they were shakin' down to their insides...basically a reaction to seeing a pretty girl.
February 14, 2010.... 40 years ago right about now... Feb 14, 1970. God what I'd give to have been at Leeds for this show. No better live album that Live at Leeds.
But Neil Young's "Time Fades Away" has to be in contention for the best live album ever. Turn off the lights, close your eyes, and listen to "Don't be denied". If you don't cry, you're not human.
I don't have my hopes up "but" if they HAVE to do the Super Bowl Shit. Lot's of shakin' in the NFL, sidelines Too. This, and, I can see for Miles,(arguably one of the most underrated songs of all time) and I can die a happy man.
Such a tour-de-fuckin'-force! Keith's splendid drumming, John's "rhytmic" bass playing, Roger's gut-bucket vocals and Pete-- Oh my God, Pete!-- absolutely shredding! Cover, shmover, on this night The Who owned "Shakin' All Over"!
I was 10, down in the basement of house with Guild acoustic strapped on while this MASTERPIECE blared from the turntable - couldn't play the songs; instead, I thrashed the hell outta my Guild and many times came close to smashing it into oblivion. That's what THE WHO LIVE AT LEEDS could do to a young rock n' roller / musician who still plays, records etc. only this time my guitar is a Guild Aviator, red, heavy metal guitar, sort of a Stratocaster body. Now I can play TWLALEEDS. IT STILL ROCKS!!
He keeps the beat moving along for sure but also accents the vocals during the chorus, as well as buiding up a rhythmic backdrop for the instrumental section.Quite remarkable, as Mooney always was.
@theseeker23 Thanks alot for this- this fucking rocks this is the who when their in Overdrive, and keith moon tears it up with the drums thats right- I mean ASS-RITE!!!!!!!
No, I've got this record from in all shapes and forms, the vinyl, the 95 cd release and the new deluxe double disc release, this song has not changed.
@mbutler1023 : This must be from a different concert then, because the drums, bass, guitar and vocals are unmistakeably the Who. Especially the drums. No one plays drums like Keith Moon.
No mate! It's a version of a Johnny Kidd and the Pirates song from 1960. The Who would have heard it as teenagers on the goood old BBC not from the Guess Who...
The Stones? Live? Seriously. Couldn't carry The Who's equipment.Taylor was a great slide player but there are numerous others like Joe Walsh at least as good.
This is the best version !!!!!!!!!!!
