5:01. Today, Joe Ehrmann (#76) would have drawn a 15-yard penalty for that spearheaded sack on Theismann (charging with the helmet). They really let them play back then!
That's a good question. WHY DOES the NFL sit on top of the goldmine of old game films they have? They are so profit-oriented, that it doesn't make sense fot them not to make almost every game available for sale to the public. Once the generation is gone that remembers the players and the commentators like Facenda, the value greatly diminishes.
Hey... in the first clip here, wasn't it about Joe Washington between the Colts vs Patriots the time when Cosell made his infamous comment "Look at that little monkey run." I think it was! You couldn't here it on this clip but I bet it's on the original ABC clip!
@inventorr77 Actually, that comment was about ALVIN GARRETT of Redskins in 1983. Joe Washington was with the 'Skins then, but he wasn't the target of that comment.
@Odawg96 I just checked what you said and it's NOT Alvin Garrett like everyone seems to believe. A short clip of that 1983 "little monkey" game is here on Youtube, and what you can hear Cosell say is "That little monkey gets loose doesn't he?" There are two more games where Howard Cosell uses "little monkey." In 1972 about Mike Adamle, and again in the mid 70's on MNF about another player. I heard it myself and that is why I thought it was Joe Washington in this 1975 video. Not sure who tho.
@inventorr77 The one time that got him FIRED from MNF was the one about Garrett. I remember when it happened (4th grade). No, it wasn't the first time he actually used a version of the little monkey comment, but that was the one that did him in...unfairly as I see it.
@Odawg96 Cosell never got fired from MNF. In his book, "I Never Played the Game"
published in 1985, Cosell said "If you weren’t a whore for the NFL, then you were a pariah." He critically opined about professional sports being 'out of whack' and was against carpetbag franchises threatening to relocate if the cities in which teams played didn’t come through with bigger stadiums, tax breaks, and other concessions. It was the release of the book that ultimately cost Cosell his job at ABC Sports.
@FRSFreeState I understand. My point was that the decline lasted well beyond after they left Baltimore - they were one of the worst teams in the league in the first 15 seasons they were in Indianapolis as well. In the 1978-98 period the Colts had just seven seasons of 8-8 or 9-7 with only three playoff appearences (1987, '95, and '96).
Thats fine but my comment was about the Baltimore Colts which is what this video is about. The Indianapolis Colts is a different conversation for people who follow them or are interested in them.
Bert Jones and the Colts whoopin up on my beloved Redskins..lol..I remember this game, my dad let me stay up late and watch the Skins..i was 10 years old.

Joe Washington had a No. 27 white jersey and a No. 20 blue jersey. That's the kind of stuff you usually see in high school. Interesting.
