But maybe he really had an appointment or sth to do and he isn't just as interested as u r to cancel it. Who knows? Maybe when he meets the real you by hanging out with you he will like you more..........

If he rejects you tell him you can still be friends and that's all.
But if then you understand that sth is wrong or he avoids you then ask him what's wrong and try to talk to him. I'm sure he'll understand and your friendship will not be destroyed
