  • "Decide what to be and go be it." If that doesn't make you sit and think about life and what a gift we were given, than nothing will.

  • Awesome!!!

  • This couldnt get any fucking better

  • Vevo, why is rihanna around this song?

  • Fuck Rihanna, No really, literally. Fuck Rihanna.

  • This is the most significant band to appear in the 21st C. These men are passionate about the music they make and it resonates with me on so many levels. They are the real deal, the genuine article and a breath of fresh air. Just when I gave up and thought it was done, I heard the Avett Brothers and yes, I was stunned.

  • This is awesome!!!

  • Fucking wonderfull!!

  • It is nice to have a cellist in a band .

  • It is nice to have a cellist in a band ,

  • These guys blow my mind.

  • next one down not for song For fucking commercials

  • 1:55 i jizzed

  • This is true stoner music

  • 8 dislikes? Looks like someone has a head full of doubt.

  • Damn this gives me shivers.. It's so .. perfect

  • There aren't words to describe how amazing these guys are...

  • Fucking perfect.

  • to those people who say The Avett Brothers are untalented street performers: Why don't you take a good hard look at this! I get you have your right to your own opinion, but why don't you do your homework before you start hating on someone.

  • I love both Mumford and the Avett Bros, but I gotta say, I think the Avetts deserve a lot more fans than they have, considering they've been in the business for almost 10 years...Mumford still deserves every one of their fans, though! They are both very talented, and very deserving bands.

  • this song got me through some dark times in my life

  • @AlwaysDaMushroom you ain't kiddin there.......

  • Dear trolls, when the Avett brothers told you to decide what to be and go be it... they hoped you would aspire for greater things. However, it's good to see that their inspiration can extend to even those with the lowest ambitions. Live your dreams and sing on friends...

  • God forbid someone be able to like two bands at once! Stop arguing about Mumford and Sons vs. the Avett Brothers. They are both awesome bands. Just appreciate that there is still great music out there.

  • @confinedspace2006 you dont know shit about music i bet you like lamb of god and other shit

  • @confinedspace2006 No you know what you don't like when you hear it. Music is a subjective thing and surely it's easy enough to find some you enjoy and listen to that rather than sit here and talk shit about this.

  • why the hell did Mumford and Sons have to steal all of the Avett's thunder... they're like 10% as good

  • Comment removed

  • @williambonniemusic clearly you have a right to state your opinion. a free will to speak right?

but the part that you've kind of missed, is the fact of how great these guys really are. your putting yourself out here on youtube, making assumptions and opinions of what you think about them.

but really you have no idea who they really are.

and no, none of them are gay. false statement / assumption / opinion you have made about them.

  • you're a dummy.

  • Comment removed

  • @williambonniemusic oops, looks like those prison keyboards are so beat up you mispelt gods. good luck making friends with a beard a pedobear beard like that

  • i think I'm actually in love with Scott Avett..

  • Surely they should be called 'The Avett Brothers and Their Asian Cousin.' No?

  • @mjhorsley1 No.

  • Does anyone have a list of all Avett brother's CD's? I am going to buy them all so help me God. These guys are Genuine, Honest and All American.

  • @Aquapello1967 they're all listed on wikipedia...

  • @ohmylauren Thank you for the info.

  • @Aquapello1967 it's cool. I tried to copy/paste it, but it was too many characters.

  • AWESOME.

  • Ok I don't usually watch movie trailers on Vevo, but DAMN.... Gina Carrono looks fantastic playing an action role. She looks like a well rounded actress already and I can't wait to see this one. :)

  • Thumbs up for the asian guy at 0:42

  • stoney balogny

  • @2:45 - 3:20 is this a sample of a song? Sounds familiar but I can't place it

  • I gotta get one of those hats.

  • real music, wonderful voice, brilliant song !!!

  • So why does vevo keep advertising lady gaga around all these videos?

  • Damn good question Sir. I say we all get some Pop-Star bug spray and just hit every city and town and drive out the Gaga's and the Goo-Goo's and the Gee-gee's until we are left with REAL musicians that can actually play an instrument with out having a fuck ton of He-she's dancing around and moving like spastic vibrators on stage. That's what it is, just giant vibrators on the high setting. Thank you----I have spoken.

  • ...i kinda like kanye west. why always hating? there doesnt have to be a damn enemy. just enjoy the music

  • 6 thumbs down??? im frightened by those who dont see

  • @MsSmokeybacon And don't hear as well... Shame... Good thing there are folks who do know how to appreciate!! :)

  • wow this takes me back to the 60's when music was music...

  • And I'm frightened by those who don't say it.. It doesn't get better than this

  • playin at Mtn jam and mumford is there too

  • @Heathmarg mumford and sons was not there!

  • where and when was this recorded? its amazing!!!

  • @bigj1475 Charlotte, NC at Bojangles Coliseum on August 8th, 2009

  • @bigj1475 - its from The Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, NC. Its on a dvd called "Live Vol. 3". Buy it! :)

  • these guys are amazing!!!!!!

  • excellent....

  • like any great band, the recordings don't do the live sound justice.

  • Goosebumps.

  • One of the most amazing shows of my life was The Avette Brothers, and being able to see Mumford and Sons along with them was just an added blessing!!!

  • Love these guys! Great song!

  • such a great song he finishes with thank you so much but it is we who should be thanking them for this beautiful song...

  • bud's rockin the cello

  • I love your music.... me and my husband listen to this over and over....Thanks for a great song !!

  • if i was a woman here i would jump on stage and kiss him

  • Great band, great song, it's a shame I'm only allowed to see two of their videos here apparently because of the country I'm in.

  • @AdesteFidelis Thank Vevo.

  • @AdesteFidelis Overthrow the tyrannic bastards who made that limit.

  • love this song!!!

  • Love the song, I had a dream and one day I could see it, I took a poop on brittany Spears forehead!! Man do I feel better!!!!

  • Love the song, I had a dream and one day I could see it, I took a poop on brittany Spears forehead!! Man do I feel better!!!!

  • outstanding

  • I wish I could meet mama and papa Avett so that I could thank them for making love and then having 2 of the greatest men to ever walk this earth. If you see this Scott and Seth, I adore your music and you are both extremely beautiful people. I saw you at Jazzfest 2011 yesterday :)

  • I could swear i can see jim morrison at 0:22 !

  • I can't get enough of this song and video. My very favorite moment is at 3:22 when Scott smiles.

  • wonderful, excellent, brilliant - you are there! I most recently discovered your music on HDNet - you were playing the Austin City Limits. I'm hooked. This particular song runs deep politically with me as we're facing yet another election in Canada next week. There' snot much choice of leadership - liberal crook, progressive crook or a socialist. None of them knows the meaning of truthfulness. There is no freedom without first understanding and practicing honesty.

  • 10 months the bird sat in a cage having locked herself in waiting for someone to wind the pocket watch, finally had to break in her own cage and free herself to fly a thousand miles from nowhere and there's no place she'd rather be,after you slipped your heartaches into her pocket...Christmas in July only comes but once in a lifetime, too many lonely walks in the park of until, In the winged world, even if you know not where to fly...you get that urge for going, deserving she flies to find love

  • Stumbled upon this song by accident... Wow what a great song...

  • I saw one of your videos on a website. I was directed to You tube to listen to it and then I came upon this song. It is absolutely incredible. The lyrics are amazing. You have so much talent (((all of you)))! I have become your new fan.

    Kay Salady, Author

  • Every once in a while, a song comes around and not only grabs you, it punches you square in the face. Then you see it live and it takes you somewhere else. A great musician leaves his soul on the stage, which is what was done here. No computer enhancements, no mixing, just raw musicians going out there and cutting it up. Bravo!!!!

  • I think the cellist should have taken it easy on the drugs pre show

  • @stoojmonk funny shit yay

  • I think the cellist took too much opium before the show.

  • great tune, I like how you guys continue to reinvent yourselves with each passing year

  • first time I heard your music,

    great talent

I really enjoy the use of instruments not usually used out side of the pit.

    keep it coming,

  • Decide what to be and go be it!

  • Wow! Can't wait to see them live, beautiful song.

  • When nothing is owed, deserved or expected. And your life doesn't change by the man that's elected. If you're loved by someone, you're never rejected. Decided what to be and go be it.

  • I love this song.:)

  • He sounds so much like Neil Young, even kinda look's like him when Niel was younger! Love it!!!!!

  • awesome

  • God I love you Avett Brothers.

    Sincerely,

The Window (of The Wall & The Window)

  • God I love you Avett Brothers.

    Sincerely,

The Window (of The Wall & The Window)

  • Finally YouTube did something right and AMAZING by posting this video on the sidebar. I've never heard of the Avett Brothers, so this is my first tasting. HOLY CRAP THEY ARE AMAZING. My heart just jumped out and flew out of the room. This song...wow.

  • @inmysimpleheart Glad you like them. NOW GO SEE THEM LIVE! I've been listening since 2004 and I've never been to a more intense, crazy ass show. Just try counting the broken strings.

  • @inmysimpleheart CHeck out their live version of Talk on Indolence on their VEVO channel for a feel of how their lives shows really are.

  • @socalsugar You still can't call them an imitator. I mean, you can, but I would disagree. That's still dancing along the lines of telling anyone from here on out "if you hear a type of music that is new to you, and you enjoy it and decide to create it that music... you're just an imitator." That's not quite fair, is it? I'm not arguing the Avett Brothers are more talented or original, I'm just saying good music is like good fruit. It's refreshing, regardless of it's origins or how you slice it.

  • i was born in 1977. the music i grew up on was one thing.. very moving. now when i say that the avett brothers are a change in the music industry, they really changed music. like the beatles did. nirvana and all that 90's music was great but most of the lyrics that they sang about were nonsence. the Avett brothers are one of the greatest bands to walk the face of the earth teaching a message of love truth and honesty.

  • how 2 people can dislike this !!!??

  • Very Neil Young like.

  • somebody please help me out, what is the opening track from this same concert/performance? I've seen it a bunch of times but I have no idea the name of the song

  • @unohoo6989

This is from Live Vol. 3. The opening track is Pretty Girl From Matthews, which was originally recorded on Country Was.

  • Fantastic band! And to socalsugar, who calls Mumford and Sons "a one dimensional imitation band" are you on crack? They are just as talented and amazing as The Avett Brothers, but I guess if you form a band to make music that you love, and some other band loves the same music and started sooner, than you're automatically an imitator, right? You're rather ignorant. Next time you buy a shirt or pair of tennis shoes, remember, someone on earth bought the same thing before you, so youre an imitator.

  • @PaulF88 mumford and sons aren't one dimensional because they play this type of music. they are one dimensional because every song sounds the same. don't get me wrong, i like mumford and sons a lot, but they cannot come close to matching the diversity and talent of the avett brothers.

  • @PaulF88

The issue isn't coming first, it's being artistically honest. The Avetts sound comes from their life and influences not an effort to be different. M&S were prep school kids hanging in the West London music scene (world center of trendiness) when brits were started to catch on to the rising grassroots following of organically formed US roots-rock bands.

M&S isn't as talented. They have the chops to write Kings of Leon-esque radio hits, but nothing that will really hold up over time.

  • go joe!

  • one of my all time favorite. great song!!!!

  • If they don't go on tour with Mumford and Sons there's something wrong in this world.

  • @LaserZeppelin

Langhorne Slim opens for the Avett Brothers fairly often. That's about as good as it gets. That way you can see two of the great bands that organically birthed this roots rocks movement. With the Avetts and Mumford you get one dynamic band that birthed the movement, alongside a one dimensional imitation band.

Langhorne opens for the Avett Brothers in upcoming shows in Dallas, TX and Houston, TX and at Harding University in Searcy, AR. Go if you can.

  • @socalsugar i saw the searcy show last night with both of them. best night of my life.

  • @LaserZeppelin Yes, clearly.

  • @LaserZeppelin That show would completely freak my freak.

  • @LaserZeppelin AMEN.

  • @LaserZeppelin I would travel a bazillion miles and further and beyond for a Avetts/Mumford show. Mind blowing doesn't even begin to describe that thought

  • @LaserZeppelin dude, i would lose my mind if that happened! That would be amazing as hell!!

  • @LaserZeppelin band of horses and fleet foxes should go as well

  • @LaserZeppelin they did sort of:) Saw them together at JazzFest in NOLA...they were not on their game for some reason:(:( Mumford was amazing though! I love me some Avetts (hometown girl here) but something was not right that day

  • You can keep your Ke$ha and Kanye West.

This is real talent. This is art in every way.

  • @bgates02 amen to that. hopefully we get more talented artists like this in the future!

  • The passion in these men's eyes is ferocious. How refreshing it is to see that.

  • I'm frightened by those who don't see it...well, not really...but it's a good line. Love this whole song.

  • The one person who dislikes this great live performance is a pratt!

  • i sat completely still until i hit "like" sixt seventhousand times

  • Dear repeat button,

I am sorry I abuse you. Blame the talent of the Avett Brothers.

  • Some days I turn on the radio and I go "What the hell does my generation have to offer"... this song eases my angst...

    Thank you Avett Brothers!
