  • these boats cannot point high upwind... but they certainly go fast.

  • noicenoice

  • How much does one of those cost?

  • @saborknight I think when I bought mine new it was about £20000

  • I have a toppper :D id love to try a moth tho lol

  • Reminds me of the Farside cartoon, a bunch of geese are walking south, when a flock flys by, and one of the walking geese says "HEY! LOOK WHAT THEY'RE DOING!"

  • Squirrly but a great concept.

  • Man, that goes fast! And it looks like lot of fun!

  • O.o that looks like a boat i can build in 2 weeks

  • the design of the rudder bar needs to be improved.

  • AWESOME!!! I'm sailing a Laser now and hope to try a Moth someday ....

  • grand piano,

  • Very fast and all is well till its not....

  • WTF is THAT ???!???!?? xD

  • Wow if the hand part of the rudderstick would be telescopic............

  • Das ist unsere neue Klasse!!!

  • This looks like fun :)

  • on wich event was that? I only see skiifs, if you only see a skiff in Belgium, you're a happy man, Now I'm looking for cheap 9ers or laser 4000's

  • do the wings serve any purpose for lift or just for the sailor to sit on ?

  • Only for the sailors to sit on. They provide for moe righting moment since they move the weight of the sailor further out from the center of the boat.

  • @darraghtank They move the weight away from the fulcrum on the boat, which allows the boat to stay upright easier, it's basic mechanical advantage.

  • @darraghtank lol, I hope you are joking :p

To be serious though, I'm 99% sure that hydrofoils mounted on the rudder and keel give the lift!

  • @darraghtank they're called racks

they serve the same purpose as a trapese harness, moving the weight of the sailor further out of the boat to keep it flat. a flat boat is a fast boat. the only thing giving it lift is the hydrofoils on the centreboard and rudder

  • I can't believe the porce on those things!

    11 grand +!!!!

Guess I will ot be trying that out for a while. : (

  • @Poseidon500 lots of high performance composites, thats why it's so expensive.

  • this sailing club has some decent boats. where is it?

  • How do they do in heavy winds?

  • I want the yellow one at 1:09. But I have a topper :)

  • looks like they are trying verry hard to maintain their balence ? doesnt look perfected yet ? neat idea tho and looks like fun if you dont mind getting wet now and then ? nice video

  • id never sailing moth but it must be a lot of fun

  • suuuuper sailing

  • If you are going to work that hard might as well windsurf lol.

  • you guys know nothing! the are Called skiff moths. they weiggh like 30 kilos all up and are made only of carbon fiber. and NO! if they were released so they could gain altitude they would go so high that they would crash down and you get cheezegrated on the stay wire going from like 40 k's to 0 instantly. so they have a altitude stabilizer

  • must be fun

  • Those kick ass over the normal sails

  • I see the problem

    - once airborne - those things are holding you down

    - they should be released so you can gain altitude

  • The boat seems extremely unstable when not foiling => no tacking. This instability makes it look much more like windsurfing rather than normal sailing...

  • The name of the boat is Moth !

  • The name of the boat is Moth !

  • what is the name of this boat?

  • HOW in God's name do you TACK something like that?!

  • to keep it foiling you basically gybe to take up wind, think its called gabbing, basically you just do a really huge and fast gybe and luff it up right after to keep the boat foiling

  • it looks like ur flying in the water!!! wait this is a hard boat to sail?

  • they are harder to sail without the foils because in a way they stabilize you. once your moving enough to foil, the lift the foils generate pushes you to the side you are leaning. thats one of the reasons these guys sail to windward with windward roll

  • Great video, they make it look easy! I only recognize the crashing bits from sailing in this wind with my Prowler ;)

  • Great video, I especially like the way the moth are overtaking all other boats.

  • Great video - not sure it was 15 mph though - felt like more!
