Here's the thing. I now have a happy life, with my own children and my wife. We visit singapore every now and then. My opinion now? Yes, Singapore is run by a bunch of very well and very autocratic leaders. But I know people like my late father. If it was up to him, I really don't think Singaporeans could be as happy as they are today...even if it is the illusion of being happiness.

But my understanding of happiness is related to a balance between material and spiritual well being. I have very good friends who are truly spiritually happy people in Singapore. Nothing can phase them. They are happy. Me? I'm still trying to be happy. (Still think that 52 inch plasma TV will make me happy, at least for a day or 2 :))

Long story short, the broken man that he became inevitably moulded the unhappy child that I grew up to become. Long story even shorter, I grew to detest everything singaporean. After NS, I left for Australia and have not looked back for almost 23 years.
Please take note that I am not promoting Malaysia or encouraging people to migrate out to other country. I found it suitable for me to live there as Malaysia is very similar to Singapore and it's easy to commute by just driving across the causeway. You may look to buying of properties in China, India, Vietnam, Indonesia or anywhere else for your investment or retirement if you prefer. Everything comes with a price.
So, the question is "What you want in Life" HDB, Condo, Landed, bus, mrt transport, motorbike or car or Ferrari... Singapore is still very liveable. If not, try finding your own Utopia elsewhere, like what I did. As the saying goes... "If you cant beat them, join them" or get out... It wont help complaining and only goes to unlistening ears

I agree with AC220V that the ministers should be paid high to avoid temptation which is human weakness. They deserve the payout as they are capable in building Singapore. But the question is... Why are there many still struggling for a better life? The amount of work put in,to most people are not worth the gains. Why the reserve (money) is so hefty and many here are not rich?
That's why I am preparing to stay and immigrate to Malaysia soon. Just brought a very big and beautiful new landed home in JB for a price of a 4 rooms HDB. Fully guarded with patroling security and brick perimeter wall fencing with club house and condo type facilities. Comtemplating to buy a villa and shop house too. I dont want to be a slave forever here. Need to plan for retirement and easy lifestyle. Been working too hard and stress out for such little things here.

ya i just skimmed across the surface. there are just too many things that i would like to share with many unhappy ppl here. i was once dissatisfied with the policies but when i realised that its a product our inherent circumstances,i started to back it. hope sporeans can see the entire picture and make judgments from there. it would be fairer n more mature tt way. but sadly many don't have that level of understanding and knowledge

The notion that you require more salary to attract more capable people to serve the nation is disgusting. People serve the nation out of personal will and passion. The fact glory you acheive as a leader should be more than sufficient; if you need money to attract people, then you're admitting that the social fabric of Singapore you've created has failed - because people nw serve their people for money, not because they want to themselves

Yea, it is indeed sad that Singaporeans have now come to that state. But this problem is not only apparent in Singapore, the new generation across the world has become and extermely cosmopolitan and materialistic one. It is difficult for people to feel a sense of belonging here, after all, our history has barely reached 200 years! We were only independent for 43 years! All the developed countries of today have had hundreds and even thousands of years of independence. We cant compare with them.

There is no need for guts. Our economy is strong, our country stable. Why do we even need a change of government? Do we want to undergo the same social and polictical unrest that's happening in malaysia? If you are unhappy with the government, then perhaps you could join an opposition party and start finding flaws in the PAP that do matter to the people.

There is some things that i don't agree with what the opposition party do.
They went to other countries and complained that singapore is a police state. Which is not so. I'm live in singapore and in no ways that i feel that the government wants to interfere with everything in our lives.
Also, the government also have to consider alot of things before making a decision.
Sometimes it might not benefit some people but its for the good of the country.
People often jump to conclusions.

Here's the thing. I now have a happy life, with my own children and my wife. We visit singapore every now and then. My opinion now? Yes, Singapore is run by a bunch of very well and very autocratic leaders. But I know people like my late father. If it was up to him, I really don't think Singaporeans could be as happy as they are today...even if it is the illusion of being happiness.

But my understanding of happiness is related to a balance between material and spiritual well being. I have very good friends who are truly spiritually happy people in Singapore. Nothing can phase them. They are happy. Me? I'm still trying to be happy. (Still think that 52 inch plasma TV will make me happy, at least for a day or 2 :))

What I said about the TV was meant to be a joke...:) My point is that I KNOW that material pleasure is not ultimate happiness. But it is necessary for balance with spiritual well being. That balance is necessarily of different interpretations for every individual, but a certain level of balance nevertheless.

These discussions Intrigue me sooo much! Here's my 2 cents. My late father's name is Tang Song. He worked with LKY b4 I was born, but decided to run with the opposition. So he did time in Changi. Long story short, the broken man that he became inevitably moulded the unhappy child that I grew up to become. Long story even shorter, I grew to detest everything singaporean. After NS, I left for Australia and have not looked back for almost 23 years.

Please take note that I am not promoting Malaysia or encouraging people to migrate out to other country. I found it suitable for me to live there as Malaysia is very similar to Singapore and it's easy to commute by just driving across the causeway. You may look to buying of properties in China, India, Vietnam, Indonesia or anywhere else for your investment or retirement if you prefer. Everything comes with a price.

Singapore Government is not stupid. That's why they make us PAP in many ways.... taxes here and there.... GST... inflation.. ERP...COE... and the list goes on... They dont need us to inform them when to tax. They are wiser. So.. no secret at all. They are now going shopping around the World. Where does the money comes from?? But its fairer 2 make a camparison w other countries b4 we conclude.
I have heard of countries where crimes goes unreported and police share loots with robbers.
Singapore is a safe place and crimes are harshly dealt with.
Governments salaries are very high here but they are transparent and there are few if any avenues for corruption. Corruption is dangerous.
Corrupt officials elsewhere claim they don't earn much officially but what about 'unofficially'??

Oh.. Btw, I must give credit to PAP for the strong Singapore currency because of the strong economy in Singapore. Thus I am able to buy things and acheive the lifestyle I wanted in Malaysia. The very rich class of people in Singapore (be it foreigners or locals) has pushed the high end middle class out of their reach in pursuit for luxuries. .

I agree with AC220V that the ministers should be paid high to avoid temptation which is human weakness. They deserve the payout as they are capable in building Singapore. But the question is... Why are there many still struggling for a better life? The amount of work put in,to most people are not worth the gains. Why the reserve (money) is so hefty and many here are not rich?

That's why I am preparing to stay and immigrate to Malaysia soon. Just brought a very big and beautiful new landed home in JB for a price of a 4 rooms HDB. Fully guarded with patroling security and brick perimeter wall fencing with club house and condo type facilities. Comtemplating to buy a villa and shop house too. I dont want to be a slave forever here. Need to plan for retirement and easy lifestyle. Been working too hard and stress out for such little things here.

To those who have so much time complaining (and making clips), YOU should tell the government what they ought to do. If your idea is good for Singapore, they WILL adopt it. If it isn't, then your idea is either (i) not applicable; or (ii) you are stupid. In either of the cases, I see no reason why you should be complaining. Go find your Utopia where you can have everything without having to make any compromises.
