  • Good times. I wish I still had that dress.

    Thanks for posting this Eric.

  • Fuck You Tube !

  • cool vid fella,..its a real eye opener

  • there is still a good mod and northern scene in scotland.ITS A WAY OF LIFE. KEEP THE FAITH

  • scotland will always keep the faith !! we are the mods we are the mods we are we are we are the mods!!<3

  • mods are mods no matter where you live there are not many of us so we must all stick together

  • Scooters had nothing to do with the original mods, mod'ism started in London in the late fifties and was gone by 63ish then the mod fashion started, there is a difference, but it's all good.

  • I wish I lived in California!

  • True - but equally a lot DIDN'T! French and Italian styles were also absorbed. Mods sought out what was best in clothes (and music), wherever they could find them.

  • heheh GQ

  • The main point is that we all like the same things, the music, the scooters & the clothes, does it really matter where the hell you come from. Especially in the revival period.

It wasnt English, it was British and then....global...with special thanks to the Italians for their Scooters

  • M-1951 parka USA

    Levis USA

    R&B USA

We Take & Give all the same don't we?

    GOD BLESS USA&UK

  • a scooter gang at the freemont? that is funny.

  • Mods are mods were ever ya come from! Global mod revival be ace. Mod rules! You always have to allow for some changes though or Mod would be a self defeating concept in a sense!

  • Cheers mate, great vid. i grew up around mod's an Scooter boys an still love the music an the look. Cant wait till i can aford to buy my scooter!

  • well said malo

  • Sadly you miss the point USA. Mods were British working class boys who were looking to European for its influences. Post war Britain was dull, grey and very conservative. Of course R&B has its roots in America but it wasn't just about music. The clothes, the scooters and being English gave mods an identity. The Who's manager thought they should be mods - they were musicians first and modernism was there market. Lets have some sensible debate on this please. Essex Mod

  • Hold On a minute... Who ever is american, and tries or even THINKS they can be a mod. Theyre Not. You Steal Our Music.. The Jam And Who Ect. ! guy In That Had A Union Jack On His Parka!?!?! Whats That About? How About Leavin The Mods In Britain? Where It Started, Make Your Own Culture, NOT Ours. Stupid Yanks...

  • we never stole any of your music, the who they came over here, and they were not mod at the time, they were crosing over into heavier rock, and if you think you can call yourself a mod your sadly mistaken if you weren't a mod in the 60's you have no right to call yourself or criticize anyone about being a mod

  • bonzo, america to put it bluntly has NONE of its own culture, it has chavs, big whoop. tbh mate, my dad, and grandad were mods, and tbh. i think there awesome, and i am one. im more of one that you will ever be, English moods own, american mods tbh are rubbish. go eat a burgerking, and leave the mods in britain. WHERE THEY BELONG!! England Started It, England will keep it, we dont want yanks envolved, if you cant find your own culture, i feel terribily sorry for you. ruddy yank, ENGLAND OWNZ!

  • how can you say that america has none of it's own culture, what about the hippie? Thay were real modernist, and today there wouldn't be big corperations or buisneses unless the hippies were there, so you can't say we don't have culture. so if i want to be mod i can, if i want to be a hippie i can, there shoudn't be mean people like you telling me what i can and can't do

  • You are so mistaken. Anyone can be mod- it doesn't matter where you're from. If it wasn't for Americans and Jamaicans there would be no music for mods to listen to. Do you honestly think you guys invented soul? Please... Don't be such a hater.

  • you sound american, leave it out please. ive had enoough of bluddy americans to last a life time.

  • The Jam and The Who etc were influenced by AMERICAN musicians.

  • nothing wrong with americans being mods ,or scooterists, steal music, come on , just about every form of modern popular music originated in america, without black music ,blues soul etc there would be no elvis or buddy holly, there be no beatles, the who ,the stones,,the jam, small faces etc, most mods or scooterists listen to soul, northen soul, motown etc,we had our own british bands of course,if the yanks like our bands great and our styles great, better than listening to rap crap

  • look at a lot of young british youth today, listening to rap,r&b,dressing in hoodies, speaking a weird american ,carribean, ghetto, slang accent, innit, carbon copying american gangsta cult, and you accuse some americans who like the british mod scene, good luck to them i say

  • err the beatles are from england, liverpool

  • err what about the beatles, just said without american early rock etc ,thered be no beatles ,just a fact

  • only John and George were Mods in the Beatles, John had one of the best collection of Mod records around at the time! the closest they got (musically) to Mod was "Paperback Writer" or "Taxman" imho.

plus, its weird that when ppl from Germany, Spain, Peru say that they are Mods - its cool, but as soon as an American says it - ppl get all bent outa shape over it! ???

    Lee

    The Sawdust Caesar.

  • yanks ruined the mod scene .... made it to fucking middle class and expencive the cunts

  • F**king rubbish.

  • and in the UK we don't care about the rain or snow we fucking british you american twit

  • american mods aren't real mods. go and get your own subculture thats less bleak than bloody emo

  • American Mods?...what a badly bleakness...

  • Right on! Even Yanks can be ace, baby.

  • lol. I know. It happens someties. Other times, it's normal. Thanks for the help. Can I ask one really noobish sounding question?....whats an op shop?

  • whats the song called?

  • Intro. "can't explain" by The Who

3'30 . "Hundred Mile High City" by OCS

End . "This is the modern world" by The Jam

  • Thanks for the advice mate!

  • I'm a punk myself, but I love Mods and Skins. You guys fuckin rule and three cheers for the "sub-cults!" :D

  • im 20 years old and im a mod! its still around today and may it live on forever!

  • i know all about boys who were mods and their fahion. what about the girls? how did they dress?

  • Anybody know about mods in places like Australia, not the outback parts but in Melbourne and Sydney?

  • Mods in Germany? I never heard about Mods in Germany, and in the USA too.

  • Mod til i die

  • The Mod scene is still active. In Germany as well. Mods, Rude boys, and Rude Girls on the move. Víva St.Pauli!

  • American music, and brands were part of the mod culture... We're in there whether you like it or not...

  • I would agree, mod is a british thing. But,

whether you like it or not, regardless of where it originally came from, it's always going to go somewhere else. ;]

  • lol american mods...i just seems wrong. It's such a typically british thing.

  • Sure, it's a British phenomenon (Terry Rawlins), but don't forget the Jewish london tailors, American soul music, Italian scooters, Jamacan ska music etc.

The American 'Ivy League' look became an integral part of the mod look in the mid 60s.

  • Yes, Pete Townshend stated that it wasn't until they visited America for the first time, that he realized that many mods looked just like little American businessmen. My dad was an ad executive (here in the US; we're American) in the mid-60's, and in old photos he looks like a hard mod: knitted ties, Oxbloods, tattersol shirts, etc etc.

  • Sure, it's a British phenomenon (Terry Rawlins), but don't forget the Jewish london tailors, American soul music, Italian scooters, Jamacan ska music etc.

The American 'Ivy League' look became an integral part of the mod look in the mid 60s.

  • That's right!!

  • i was a mod in the early 80s.i was a member of two scooter clubs.one in east london one in west london.still remember the nights i spent down the sheperds bush holtel and the scooter runs.like people say once a mod always a mod

  • one hundred mile high city - ocean colour scene -

  • i think steve marriott is really the Modfather!

  • The band is definitely Ocean Colour Scene. The whole track must be on You Tube somewhere. If not I'll dig it out and put it on my next video. Keep searching the net and record shops for Ocean Colour Scene though, and I'm sure you'll get a copy.

  • The band are Ocean Colour Scene, and I think the song is Eight Miles High. They come from the Moseley area of Birmingham in England. Some of the band members actually have scooters. Agree with you its a great song.

  • It's a song called "This Is The Modern World", by "The Jam". Fronted by Paul Weller, they came out of the punk scene here in the UK around 1977. Although they were never Punks themselves.

They were infact Mods, and played a huge part in the Mod revival here in the UK, in the late '70's and early '80's.

Weller is now know as the Modfather, nuff said me thinks, lol.

  • but what i mentioned was true :D

  • ha its funny how the mods are british with their american parkas, italian suits and scooters and an irish man was the influence for the character of Jimmy.

LOL im only messin the mods are cool.:D

  • punjabi mods ok

  • oi to that mate .

  • Everyone want's to have and live somewhere else. Don't blaim them.

To be a Mod is to be in London in 1963. Sure, it was good, but we didn't know it.

We were all ignorant working class bums with a bit of money. I had a Vesper, 12 lights, and cattle horns. Briet and World War two goggles. Tonic suit under the parker, bluies down the neck and a pint of Brown Ale. OOps - I guess you weren't there.

  • Ok mate,,How old are you?????

    Amanda

  • "Mods" Derives from "Modernists" dunnit?

So why d'ya wanna live in the past?

All the Lammy's and proper Vespas are rust buckets now, restored ones cost the same as a small car. The only guys that can afford them are old farts, The Who, 'Stones etc are old enough to collect their pensions.Even the "Mods" from the '80's are in their late 30's/early 40's!

Look forward, not back, find your OWN style.

  • mods oi! parkas rule

  • Maybe or Maybe not?

"All they leave behind is money. Paper made out of broken twisted trees." MSP

  • Where's that store Lee's tailoring??

I have to get some gear!

  • 4141 State St. Santa Barbara, CA 93110. I get all of my tailoring done there. Lee is the man!

  • Does Lee tailoring stock the old style Levi narrow cut sta-prest pants? If they do I'll have to drive up there.

  • He just does tailoring as far as I know. I don't think he sells any clothes. He understands and appreciates 60s fashion.

  • what the name of the song??

    in this video..

    i need it!!

  • I Can't explain - The Who!

  • In the words of Ringo Starr...

    "I'm a Mocker."

You have to be British to be mod; what a crock. BTW Punk started in the USA. Rockers/Teds were wannabees too!

  • Oh stop it. Malcom Maclaren created Punk to promote his shop. American bands like the ramones provided a ready made template, but they never used the word punk until the Pistols came along. Got it?

  • Punk Rock...The term was first used by rock critic Dave Marsh in a 1970 issue of Creem. By 1975, punk was being used to describe acts as diverse as Patti Smith, the Bay City Rollers, and Bruce Springsteen. Aquarian magazine used the term to describe what was going on at CBGBs and the magazine Punk debuted at the end of 1975. Got it? LOL!!!

    Have a nice day!

  • American mods.....now that's a joke. Bunch of rich wannabes. You can't be a mod unless you've slept in the rain in your fishtails after getting a kick in the mouth and puked up your jellied eels. California mods.....FUCK OFF!! Wankers!

  • Jack come on geeze mod originated from well off kids, you know the type mummy i would like a new vespa and mohair tailored made suit for the weekend

Mod going universal is a great thing, i met enough plastic mods in UK and you know the sort, so ease off em please they walk the walk talk the talk and looking good to boot

  • god do you know anything about MODS mods came from working class kids kicking against the crap that their parents liked they saved for their scooters and suits every week paying off HP not asking mummy or daddy for a gs

  • Your talking of Sixties Mods, I was talking about the revival mods from 79 on and I wont have a slagging match with people over an opinion that can be seen both ways,

Gotta say though what you wrote looks like it comes strait off the cover of quadrophenia and if it isn't then it should be (well wrote)

  • ahh i see what you mean yes you are right about most of the late 70s mods i was a 79 mod and i looked at the original mods for insperation it made me mad i worked my

arse off to bye a scabby li lambretta for 20 quid and my mate turnt up on a gp with all the mirrors sorry for the rant i should read more lol and the comment i wrote did come from my fingers but obviously influenced by THE FILM and the original mods but thanks anyway

  • I was scooterless(foot soldier lol), was always on a ban (15 years worth) but had a wee 50 special with a 125 engine and ended up with a vespa rally 200 but never legal, now driven a little putt putt 50 about, like you was one of the poor mods but was always up for it, had our days at carnaby till it got commercially sickening E17 mods though Like your Lammy now geeze

  • omg rockers were so much better than mods. them and their stupid scooters. jesus!

  • You don't need a leather jacket or a big motorbike to be able to kick someone's teeth in, pal. Mods are cool. Rockers are greasy.

  • Rockers I had fights with them but mainly smoothies/casuals were the wankas Rockers and mods get on we both have our ways our style that out do any smoothie, run of the mill, pretend to like something cause another does ballocks, sixties was mods and rockers the main trends but 80s to now WE both are the minorities and tend to respect the other hope this chit makes sense cause its starting to F me up LonG LivE ModS XEastLondon80s mod

  • Rockers stank, listended to shit and looked ugly!

  • ha ha picture thinking a Mod sniffing a Rocker (Rockers stank) with his ear to a turd (listens to chit) and has an orgasmic expression on his face (looked ugly) Sorry

Oh and why stank and not stink are they clean now or all gone?

  • whyweloveit Is that it? Explain why you think that and I'm sure you'll choke on your own words Mods are the kings and Queens of Cool Untouchable cool clothes cool music cool scooters cool cars cool hair cool attitude cool cool Cool on legs Cool on wheels cool naked cool dressed simply COOL!!!

  • we, we , we, we are the mods!

  • You cant be a mod and live in america. Being british was part of being a mod. fukin americans cant leave anything british alone and fucking it up. Like all these americans who think they are punk even though it ended in the 70's and was british. Yes im talking about you Green Day. Scum of music

  • Ill think youll find that punk originally came from the States. It started in the 60's and was known as garage (The Wailers, The Sonics, The Shadows of Knight, to name a few) Moving on into the 70s we had the Stooges and The New York Dolls. Like the RnB scene of the 60's the British youth turned this music into their own and made it into a youth culture.

  • Yeah, ya' fuck. 'Sides, half the punk bands of the '70s loved America. The Clash couldn't stop touring over here, and 'sides, Darby Crash was a badass, Sid Vicious was a prick. That's all it is between America and England. All meat and grit here, all flash and dazzle there. All talk, no walk, you get it?

  • Cool... that's great! good vid.

  • the term Mod is a shortening of Modernist which is what adherents of Modern jazz called themselves at the end of the fifties and early sixties.

  • Hi trevgk, were you living in Cheltenham in the 60s, just wondered if you were in the scooter club "Cheltenham Blue Diamonds". I was in this club in the early 80s.

  • shup the fuck up fucking dirty punk

  • Superb. From an old Scottish Mod. You have got it...you don't have to to explain to anyone. If you feel it..you got.

    I loved your film.

  • these lot have absolutely no idea what mods were. I was there in cheltenham in '65 with The Who, Small faces, Alan Bown Set, long john Baldry etc, etc, there were 100's of scooter, not a half dozen. The clothes did NOT change and never have, they are classic, the female says "constantly changing", what bullshit!!! pure ignorance!! What is this music?? nothing Mod about at all.

  • You're a fucking moron. Mods were all about being different and on the brink of new styles. Who gives a rats ass if you were around in 65 or not you stingy dickhead.

  • The word "Mod" derived from "Mode", meaning fashion, unlike today's youth, the Mods had their own identity & style. If the were on the " brink of change", how come new Mods still wear the same clothes Mods did over 45 years ago. That's a contradiction. If you must copy ideas from the past, do it right, otherwise, start your own new style called "The Ignorant Twatheads" or "TITs" for short.

  • Its still on the "brink of change" because barely anyone in america wears Fred Perry or Ben Sherman. "The Ignorant Twatheads", you're real funny.

  • i thought it came from modernist/ modernism

  • MODE = in dictionary shows, fashion/manner/style/way

& to be honest, I think in the early 60's the Mods got there style from the french kids (mode is derived from french)who were more liberated than the Brits in those days at least. British kids became suddenly fashion conscious in the 60's, before that, we were very classic in our dress sense. Mod era was the breakthrough.

  • Mods and Trads. It was originally just referring to Jazz. People who liked traditional jazz were trads, modern jazz were mods. Eventually, by '62, the only guys who were into modern jazz were also the ones in the three pieces and parkas, so as they were still being called 'mods', it took on a life of it's own, being plastered to people with scooters and parkas, and no longer jazz. Trad fell out of everyday usage, as 'Mod' was used to describe an emerging social scene.

  • Mod comes from Modernist.

  • what the fuck is this?is gay thats what it is

  • People who slag the US mod scene should come and check it out in person , signed a brit scooterist

  • nice....I love this

  • I like the weather, all round scootering climate and the obvious fact that the ladies are still worth looking at unlike the toothless munters left on the beach in the british mod/scooter scene. Good work.

  • Is that bill? I think I recognize his white modded P series.

  • whats the second song?

  • Young mod ere, Wigan's only mod in fact, ahhhh well

  • Um...no.

  • Why do Mods in SLO wear parkas?

    Cuz it's cold in London!

  • i was a mod in the 70's but i have to say you gotta move on ..casuals are the new mods since the 80's

  • Thank you. I wanted to show my daughters what I was into almost thirty years ago. You have summed it up nicely.

  • Brian and Chris In SLO

  • dude, this is paul leath. rude boy! i totally know brian and chris and nick and roger in that video. do you know them also?

  • We are Mods not Scooter Boys doo dah ddo dah....

  • Awww those mods are soooo cute!!

  • You can have American mods , no offence , British invented it.

  • Rubbish, the Mods were inspired by AMERICAN R&B. That said, I prefer the British version. Cheers.

  • X east london 79 to 87 mod trust me once a mod always a mod be it anytime of the year or your life
