  • dude you are very very hairy

  • @stojko0 Hahaha I do have hairy arms - the video effect here makes them look a lot worse though. ;]

  • @DylanViset My hands aren't God-like....it must be your ears.

  • nice sounds

  • v good track , well done

  • O.o F*cking Amazing o.O

  • Reminds me of chicago in 1987-88. Nothing wrong with the repetitiveness but at one point it sounds like there is no groove(swing). I own a fantom which this is inside of and it sounds like all that is needed is a means to make the bass knock a bit more(compression). It sounds light on the low tones. Granted the speakers on my computer are no good. nice one.

  • fucking awesome...!!!! where can i download it?

  • what a great track and 909 use, greetings

  • its nice but would be even greater if it wasnt so fucking repetetive =/ some melody variation would be good

  • @EvilKnebl Hehe thanks for the comment - understood about the repetition...it's quite difficult to make lots of changes when playing live as I only have two hands! Thanks for watching.. :-)

  • @siedgey mate u talkin about two hands, obviously everyone has two hands, but still have to know how to use those two hands lol i mean u have to have that skill, great job what u done in that vid pal! :)

  • @ichkeriec1 Hehe thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the vid! Now if I could only grow myself and extra pair of hands...

  • @siedgey or maybe a little more skill!

  • @siedgey or maybe a little more skill!

you are having the same problem i usually see in minimal... to much repetition

  • hey dummy it's minimal, hence the word "minimal"

  • minimal doesnt mean there is no variation dummy

  • great man ;)

  • this is f**king cool man!!

  • @SNOWBOMBER1000 Thanks!

  • just subscribed to your channel...really like what you do...mc 909 is wikid...its a crying shame they are discontinued cos im damn tempted to get one after seeing your vids giving it a good spankin ;).....great work ,keep em comin.

  • welldone m8

  • very good job!

    from portugal :D

  • good job!

  • Not bad at all man, kinda has a soma records vibe about it, though i have to say, by putting in some cut up vocals stabs, FX this would definately lift the track, and maybe another synth riff to bounce off the organ sound.. good stuff :)

  • Very good song^^ tonight your song is moving my walls in france, lol

Continue to post us your songs, Minimal & techno, i'll look all your vidz. Thanx. Sorry for my bag english^^

  • really nice :)

  • Pretty Fresh

  • this is fucking awesome man...great job...sssick

  • I like this. I'm thinking about getting one of these and an EMX-1. Which is better to start with? Anyone?

  • Thanks for watching! I have used both machines and to be honest they are both excellent in their own way. If you have the chance to demo them then do that, otherwise try and find out which one suits your style better. The plus point of the 909 is it has a sampler, synth engine and a more detailed sequencer. Hope that helps!

  • duude this is freaking awesome!!

how much is one of those? :O i want one! :D

  • man you are crazzzzy !:) this is insanity :) i love your music! it is great:) Greatings from Romania;)

  • Haha thanks man, glad you liked the track! Insaaaane! Howdy from Scotland.. :)

  • Mesmerizing fuckin-A awesome holy shit. I have an MC-909 and I was using it in a totally different way and this whole time I was thinking "NO FUCKIN WAY" I would just use the 909 to make patches and play guitar and keyboard over it, sometimes doing some live warping like you'd do, but MAN! You are in command, making all those tracks, knowing what number they were assigned to, no mistakes, you are somethin else. Just don't get too caught up in taking awesome drugs for music and then burn out.

  • Haha thanks a lot for the comment man! I'm really glad that you enjoyed it and that it stopped you taking your groovebox for granted.. ;)

Much appreciated. Check out some of my newer stuff if you are interested! Cheers, Simon

  • What's the LFO filter like on this thing? Can it produce a decent dubstep/fidget house kind of wobble?

  • Hey man, thanks for the comment. The LFO is nice - it's got a knob to smoothly change between waveforms that the LFO uses which is great, and it's easy to change the clock setting to get that mad dubstep sound. But...the sounds are probably a bit outdated for that genre. It can be done, but I would recommend the Access Virus - a dubstep MONSTER. :)

  • Good I like

  • 909 for sale,perfect condition,reply for more info,ireland

  • Amazing stuff. So could this unit produce a track like this straight out of the box? Or have you loaded your own samples and patterns onto it etc. Also would you reccomend it over its successor, the 808?

  • Hey man, thanks for the comment! All the sounds in this video are straight out of the 909 - either preset or created by me! It's great fun to be able to do a whole track in one box. I prefer it to the 808 personally because of all the additional knobs, but the 808 is awesome as well and definitely has advantages! Try them out if you can before buying. :)

  • i loved it!!

  • i got a roland mc 909 online but some of the keys don't work properly and others don't even work. do you know if there is a clinic or a webpage to buy spare parts for my 909???

  • Hi there, sorry about the late reply - it might be worth getting in touch with Roland directly about this. I'm sure they will sort you out with spares no probs. :)

  • DUDE I FUCKING LOVE YOUR SONGS.

  • Thanks man! :)

  • Just wanted to say thanks a lot for all the comments! Can't believe how many view this video has had...thanks again, much appreciated. :)

  • many thumbs up man

  • this is good,nice tune-make more please-grooveboxe are cool!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good Track - but i hear some clipping Sweeps... becarefull & buy a Limiter THX.. Greating from Germany

  • There is a built in compressor/limiter in the mastering section of the MC 909.

    Probably it was turned off.

  • Hey man, thanks a lot for the comment! Yeah I messed up on the recording here. I just recorded it too loud into the computer, hence the nasty digital distortion noise. It was two years ago though, have a listen to my newer stuff, it is much better recorded! Thanks for listening.. ;)

  • very tight drumset =)

lovin it - keep it up !

  • great job...=))))

  • KILLLAAAAAAAAAA....nice 5`

  • Very nice sir.

Not my type of music to listen to but I realy like the why the song evolves.

Olso a very good choise of snare drum, nice and smooth.

Nice to have it all in one machine. (with analog equepment you always need a couple of instruments to make a decent track)

Again good job. (thumbs up from me to)

    Cheers,

    Maarten

  • Hey Maarten, thanks a lot for the comment! I'm glad that you enjoyed listening even though it's not your normal style. Playing with grooveboxes is always good fun! It's limited, but sometimes thats a good thing as you actually finish a track rather than the endless tweaking that software allows! Anyways, thanks again..check out my stuff on Beatport if you are interested! It's Simon Stokes.. :)

  • i realy appriciate what your doing here..... i use the roland 307 for all my live minimal tunes.....

theres more heart in the music when its live! keep up the good work :)

  • Hey man, thanks a lot for the comment! You can't beat playing about with grooveboxes, so much fun! Thanks for watching.. :)

  • Dude, i love it ;)

  • good tune man! i gotta get me one of those. really good sounds you're getting out of your machine

  • Good, proper minimal techno dude.... I can tell you without hesitation that you would be welcome at any underground Detroit techno party.... period. Keep it up! I would certainly pay a cover to come see and hear you throw that down on an appropriate system.... Thanks for putting it out there. I'm enjoying it!

  • Hey man, thanks a lot for the comment...I'm really glad you liked the track. And from the techno mecca of Detroit as well.. ;)

I'm starting to tour these days so you never know, I might be over in Detroit someday! Look out for Simon Stokes! Thanks again..

  • Shit man, this was stupid good. I was researching if I wanted to buy one or not, so I was listening to this whole track while I was doing it. I like it, I might just buy one now. a month worth of hardcore research, and I might have finally found what I am lookin for.

  • Hi microwalnut, thanks for the comment man! I'm glad you liked the video...the 909 is a great bit of kit but it takes some time and patience to learn (like any groovebox!). If you've come from software you'll feel limited but when you learn to work within those limits it's so much more fun than software. Check out some of my later vids if you're interested! Thanks again.. ;)

  • YO MAN!! good track!!

  • sweeeeeeeeeet

  • hey it is really cool you are really good !!!

a question how much is it ??? you made me want to buy one !!!

    bye good continuation

  • nice

  • hi how are you? hey its a perfect minimal i like that. animo

  • It's hilarious that the MC-909 was viewed as super-cool when it was new, went through a period of being shunned, and now I'm seeing a lot of people bringing them back.

They really are AWESOME drum machines and basic synths. They only lack analogue-y sounds (they have them, but they're sample based and they're not as rich as more modern virtual analogues).

    I miss my JX-305! (Groovebox w/ keyboard).

  • Hey there, thanks for watching and for the comment! It's always the way, if you know what you are doing with any box of knobs you can make some decent music! It's incredibly easy to make bad music on the 909 but if you stick at it it is brilliant fun. Thanks again! :)

  • awesome machine man u really know ur way around it

check out my vids i run an emx :)

  • real fucking good job !!! a little question about the roland mc 909 is it expensive ???

  • really great and groovin !!

  • wow you have got some hairy arms going on there

  • jajajajaja xD

  • Haha thanks for that man! Yeah the inverted colours make my arms look crazy hairy...hehe! Thanks for watching. :)

  • .mp3 to download please!!!

  • proper good tune. MNML as fuck

  • very good tune!!!

  • hey boss! quality music!

I have been using all kinds of software, but making music on a real hardware seems to be way more fun! What makes Ableton better than your 909? I just got myself my first hardware - virus A :) Knobs and buttons are so addictive to the level I am now thinking of getting a 909 to use instead of my laptop. However, everybody seems to prefer Ableton nowadays. How about making music on a 909 and other physical hardware, then recording and mastering it on a desktop? :)

  • sweet tune! minimal techno rocks!

  • you got it

  • yyyyeeeah

  • does anyone have definition files for the 909 to sync up with SONAR???

  • fuck yeah

  • oh yeh i was wondering how much of it was like live improv on the spot?

  • nice ;) but the part 2 is very bad

  • Haha thanks for that man! Glad you like this one anyway.. ;)

  • is the 909 like a physical DAW?

  • Hey man, it kind of is yes. It's a groovebox - so it has a synth, sampler and sequencer built in. you are limited to 16 tracks but its really good fun to play! Thanks for watching..

  • whcih program did u use when you made this video?

  • good basic skills !! i used to enjoy myself with 4 beats patterns when i was bored, back in the days...making a real track is much more complicated, fortunately

  • Hey man, hehe yeah I know what you mean! These little loop based tracks are great fun to play live, but if you wanna check out my proper stuff search Simon Stokes on Beatport! Thanks for watching man.. ;)

  • cool set
