  • Does this actually work? I've got a PAL Nes and want to buy a US Zelda NES Cart.

  • @Wariopunk25 Yes this works, a really really really old trick. Just open it up, find the correct chip, clip the correct pin and there you go. And yes, it works on a PAL NES aswell on any other version of the console.

  • Works great. Played all my PAL games like before and tested with an US cartridge of Base Wars...

  • I tried this, my pal a games still works, waiting for a french boxed castlevania. Wait a sec, i can play ntsc games too with this method? *_*

  • Thanks for the guide i "forgot" to solder the leg to ground and was having problems this little fix seems to have solved the problem.

  • So this is the only thing stopping US games from playing in my PAL Australian NES? The cartridges will fit without trouble?

  • @Floydzkrieg yes, pal and ntsc cartridges about same size so ntsc cartridges fit pal nes without any trouble

  • Ok so i took out pin4 and no 95% or the time i put a game in and it goes grey! What is the problem now as i have an prefectly good nes and now its basicly fucked.... Not impressed.

  • Thats no fun :)

  • would this work with unlicensed games?

  • Works, but makes games play slower than normal. I'm from Europe, when I play UK or USA region NES games, they all play a little slower than normal, maybe about 80-90% speed, it's not too bad, but it still sucks. It fucks up the great nostalgic NES music.

  • @Bonefoot That's because PAL tvs run at 50hz while NTSC tvs run at 60hz. They did make some PAL games (like SMB) run faster than normal to compensate.

Personally I wouldn't mind it so much if the music didn't slow down as well.

  • Thank u for this vid, I have done this on my PAL NES but I dont know if the region free part works, i am waiting for the rambo(U.S) game to come and then i will know.

  • @TheAviator211 did it work? my nes is pal too, im from the netherlands

  • @salared2 i did this and yes it works! just be careful to not lose any screws or something... watch this video cause it explains exacly how to do it. /watch?v=i3vL5TE0UQo

  • @salared2 it did work and i have bought more u.s games

  • Comment removed

  • @TheAviator211 so did it work?

  • @TheAviator211 did Rambo work man??

  • What are the chances of this f***ing up my 1-week-old NES (got it from Amazon)?

  • @SPeacock Slim to none, if done right ;-D

  • @SPeacock Bet you paid way more then its worth, i got a brand new boxed one for £35 GBP

  • @swiftcirrus £25 - barely used - unboxed. It wouldn't work in its stock condition so I HAD to disable the 10NES chip just to get it running.

  • Worked for me too, but I noticed in my only USA game, Friday the 13th, that some of the graphics in the top looked all messed up, anyone else notice weird stuff like this? Like it's working.. Just not 100% with the graphics.

  • @Dousch Thats common proplem the thing is US games work much better on NTSC system that modified PAL system.back to the video itself mainly this is so easy operation first time i did this i was nervous but eventually it worked but you dont need to pull anything just cut that pin and thats it.

  • @Paulspydar: yes. Mine was actualy a UK one :)

  • will this work on a UK PAL NES?

  • OMG DUDE!!! THANX... i was so scared when i opened up my nes and did this... i was like SHIT THIS IS NOT GOING TO WORk!!!! but when i assebled it together afterwards IT WORKED WITH USA,JAPAN and EUROPE games!!!! THANX MAN!!!

  • this will also make non licensed games work better. Some of the newer NES systems have stuff to block some of the older unlicensed games.

  • Does it work for both the PAL and the NTSC NES?

  • yeh yeh!

  • Panasonic chip there wont be many of those :-)

  • I'm going to try it now :s hope i do it right lol

  • it works =]

  • i want to do this but i'm scared that i will probably break my nes =[ would you be able to make a video where you actually do it yourself?

  • Well, i have only one NES console, and i did it my self as showed on the video. worked perfect for me :)

  • ok well i might give it a try someday and hopefully I'll be able to play my NTSC dragon warrior =] i get the start screen but it constantly resets itself =[

  • it is that if u dont put an american game, it has the same problem when i tried to boot pal games on an ntsc system.

  • Where exactly is that, i guess you must have opened the NES.

  • Yes, you have to open the NES, and then you'll se this chip on the NES' mainboard.

  • i'm 14 years old and with the help of my father, i disabled the lockout chip allowing me to play games from different regions, and well u may have to take risks, but in the end it would be great, it depends, what kind of pal or unlicensed games do u own that are worth disbaling a lockout chip for?

  • By disabling this chip the console can run any game. It makes it work like NES2 which is a toploader where the Lockout chip was completly removed in the circuit.

  • i know. i already unlocked it. i wish i could travel 20 years before and do this. so i can get millions

  • You wouldn't get millions for that. Hackers have been around since the first computer's birth. I guess some people knew this back then. The thing is that there were no internet back then.
