by definition, selling out is being untrue to yourself in order to make money. i see in no way how anti-flag has sold out. i could understand, and, indeed, agree with the argument that they had sold out if this record was filled with songs about having sex and getting high and going to the club. but it's the same politically-charged, passionate anti-flag as in previous records. except now it's easier for them to get the message they're so passionate about across to the people.
This isn't meant for punx, it's meant for people. Also, a fucking amazing album to listen to when i'm bmxing toward the seattle ferry terminal, or skating it up. And punxxxxxxxxx dont need to get butt hurt, im a real punk as well. (And trolls, my punk-dom is not up for debate) :P
What is the meaning behind this song? I have my own interpretation, but I'm more wondering about what is the influence for this song? Like, what does it say in the album sleeve?
I love em <3 Saw them at the free show few weeks ago. Brilliant. Show Chris' n Justin's hand :) Was right in front of the stage aswell. Love Anti-Flag!!!!!
they dont have a big accent dude. you do. im from baltimore, and they are from pittsburg (which isnt that far to me) they dont have an accent to me. AF rocks. love the new album. I love all AF albums.
The message seems to be a little diluted compared to previous albums. Mobilize, for example, spoke in clear and literal terms, this requires more critical thinking, such as their vague reference to Blackwater, the largest PMC (private military company) and cryptic language in "The Ink and the Quill (Be Afraid)", refering to the quote "soon Blackwater will be patrolling your neighborhood".
I like the album, it's just more cryptic than Anti-Flag usually is.
ANTI-FLAG DID NOT SELL OUT!They have been approached by many major recored labels over the past 7 or 8 years and they always turned them down. Untill RCA gave them complete freedom. Also because of the change their cd's are manufactured in the countries they are sold. Making it cheaper and easier for fans to buy. They switched to RCA to be heard on a larger scale to get their message out. & they're still singing about important issues...not how shiny their rims are.
It is really obvious too considering the fact that, once their contract was out, they'd gotten the exposure they wanted to increase the audience for their message, they went RIGHT BACK TO INDEPENDENT. They weren't out for money, they were out for their cause.
@maraudingchimpanzee Actually, switching back to independent was a better way of getting more money out of it. You end up with the exposure that major labels got you, but you aren't paying for the major label to support you.
@droyfiend138 This album was less passionate, but their newest was passionate as their old shit. Best album since New Kind of Army.
Bright Lights is just something that sounds alright when you've already listened to your other, better, records though. Not bad, but definitely not great.
Well you have to consider this: most of their albums were aimmed at the war and post 9/11 events. I have the feeling that with the upcoming election Anti-Flag will be at it agian. Blood and Empire was decent; Depleted Uranium sent a very strong message in my opinion. It was probably their greatest political album in my opinion. Mobilize had its reputation as well.
I will agree that this item is probably one of their worst. Shadow of the dead is the only song I like. Their next will be better.
But pujolsgoesyard is right, Anti-Flag dont hold that same passion and flare they did five years ago. I was happy enough with Mobilise, and when Blood and Empire came out i thought it was average.
You're right, it's another record than the others are... but i think they're still anti-flag. They changed, everybody changes after some time,... you can't avoid that.
Nevertheless the record is great. And the song is one of the best on this record... ^^
only good song on the album

This comment has received too many negative votes show
This CD was the worst excuse for a punk CD I've ever heard. No real Anti-flag fan could possibly consider them the same band as 4-5 years ago.
Sold out.
pujolsgoesyard 3 years ago
"Shadow of the dead" blatantly rips off "The routes we wander" by The Falcon.
For reference: myspace/thefalconisbiggerthanjesus
Nikko92 3 years ago
I don't know the band, but it's true ;) But imo, the chorus is the best part in ''Shadow Of The Dead'' ;)
Elivvood 3 years ago
That might be worth something if the original song didn't blow monkey cock and only have a couple similarites (mostly the intro).
