  • had a pint with colin tonight! Just opened the new penyrheol boxing gym in october, great guy!

  • Was gutted that night when he was stopped against Curry. We were robbed of a great fight when the bridge of his nose split. I was sure hed have won.

  • 1:58 to skip to knock out :)

  • Jones was a true welsh gentleman ! A great ambassador to Boxing too

  • Colin stayed at the Cock Hotel in Wellington Shropshire After A fight and the landlord John did not know who he was and noticed a bit of a mouse around his eye and asked "Is the other felloer alright" Colin said yeah he 'll live, John said you been fighting then? when Colin told him who he was etc John had a pic of Colin behind the bar I used that pub for ***ng years and the only time I was not in there A Legend stayed the night , Gutted

    Great fighter Great Man !!!!!

  • Colin was a legend when i was a kid - my old man was going to Reno to see him fight McCrory but he broke his leg days before and couldnt go, what a bummer!!!

Anyone know the proper story of when Colin was supposed to have stuck one on Richard Moriarty?

  • colin jones was my hero in my boxing days and made good friends with peter (southpaw) and ken (heavyweight). Iam so proud to have sparred with colin and his boxing brothers and cousins. Great memories and what a punch colin had!

  • Colin use to quit showering 2 weeks before a fight just to make it that much more difficult for his opponent. Brilliant!

  • I loved Colin Jones and he always started fights slowly and came on strong , he actually was doing better early on against Curry than in most of his fights but got that bad nose cut that stopped the fight in the 4th - if it had gone to the 10th I still think Colin would of done Don .

  • Spot on mate!

  • i trained there 5 years 80-85 and colin would train in methyr or somwhere b4 a big fight, his brother peter wan an ABA as an amatuer and was a good pro but i think he spent time inside for gbh didn't help his career, jones only lost 2 fights 1 disq, havard only lost 2 fights, both these british, european, comonwealth and world title chalangers, suerly best gym in wales, i think calzaghe gym is bollox had 4 champs KO'd in last 6 mths that wud and never did in pentrheol

  • i heard he punched out some big rugby player before who was taking libertys with him. Jones had that nasty streak in him loved hurting people. bred into him by Gareth Bevan from when he was about 8/9 years old

  • He was started on ... !! THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS DON'T BULLY SKINNY WELSHMEN WITH GLASSES WHEN YOU ARE PISSED ... HOWEVERPUNEY THEY MAY LOOK !!

  • i think colin and peter both had that killer instink, just gareth was a no an exellent bullshit trainer, to produce havard and jones from that small gym is awesome, both wud be world champs today no problem

  • yes I agree - the thing is look at someone like Milton McCory he grew up as a fighter training in the world famous Kronk Gym and sparring with legends like Tommy Hearns. And all Colin Jones grew up on was that little old shed a 1 ring and a few bags - I cant imagine there was any quality sparring for him in his youth. But he still went on and proved as good as Milton. It was a great achievement to produce by Bevan to produce Colin into the fighter he became

  • yea he my squad trainer

  • met colin jones in boxcup denmark class act and still very much involved in the game with the welsh national squad pure gent

  • One of the best UK fights of all time. The atmosphere was highly charged and very much pro-Jones, but Laing put on such a superb boxing display that even Jones fans applauded him during the fight. Shame he lost his concentration when he was repeatedly warned for low blows.

  • One of my fav ever bouts..the boxer v the fighter, classic!Thank you for posting didn't expect to see it again.

  • haha colin jones in my boxing traner lol from wales swansea;)

  • Colin was only 25 when he retired we never got seen him fight Lloyd Honeyghan which was a shame.

  • Great days. What a hard man Colin Jones was. I met him a few years ago in Cardiff, lovely guy. As hard as they come as Boxing News put it.

  • My Dad was there for both fights. He said Colin Jones was getting a Boxing lesson from Kirkland Lang. But at the end of the day who was left standing?.

    What a punch.

    Cheers Alex

  • Hatton vs Jones at their peaks- what would happen? I'd go for Hatton on points (narrowly). I do know that Hatton wouldn't have been allowed to fight for a world title in the 70's/80's until he'd cleaned up in britain.

  • I was shocked how good CG's defence was for an out and out puncher ... may well have given ricky problems !!

  • Jones was actually a decent boxer with a very good amateur career; didn't have great defensive reflexes and was as un-flashy as they come, but did all the basics well. And then, of course, there was THE PUNCH!

  • Thanks for posting. Jonessi, please post his KOs as soon as you can. I've been waiting to see them for a while.

  • The best british fighter never to win a world title aswell as Errol Graham.Just explains the fact that fighters had to be that good during the 80s era when the American fighters were exceptional. This makes Hattons success look easier for Hatton, he never had to fight Milton McCrory in America or Don Curry did he.

  • Ill have to put all his KO's on here soon

  • nice job on holding the phone infront of the tv man. lol. these two are my favorite's of colins fight's.
