Jessie Colter has to be one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen and that goes for today also. How do you top that? She also has one of the most melodic voices I have ever heard.
An artist named Dottsy also had a great cut on this song and got some chart action on it. I met her back in the 70's when I worked with Johnny Rodriguez. Not to minimize Waylon & Jesse's version because it's great. Dottsy just did a different version. They're both good. Excellent song.
i was named after jessi colter my mom just put an e on the end to make it look better lol and my middle name is colter yeehaw lol i also have a brother named waylon and a brother named willie and willie's middle name is bocephus haha
I put my baby to sleep 3 times a day to this song... just like my dad did to me. I'm 22 and grew up on Waylon. My dad did room service for him many times in the hotels in Vegas in the 70's-80's. He loved every minute of it. I love the music. There's a song for every mood. Rest in peace Waylon.... Best outlaw/counrty singer that ever lived.
I heard Waylon say on a television show when Jessie was about to join him on stage; he said, Welcome my wife, Jessie Colter - poor little ugly thing, she can't sing; but we're gonna let her try. That kind of teasing comes from a solid and secure love. Don't we all wish we had that. But digress, beautiful blend of two distinctive voices. Aren't we blessed to have recordings to listen to?
i LOVE Waylon, he was a giant...very sweet song, that he adds just the perfect background to showcase Jesse's voice, not overwhelming her softness with his very strong, deep voice
I have an interview of Stevie Nicks somewhere that she did back in the early 80's. In it she said that she had wrote "Leather and Lace" for Waylon and Jessi but decided to record the song with Don Henley instead because Waylon and Jessi were breaking up. All these years that's what I thought had happened and that they had simply remained good dear close friends. From Wiki: "In the early 80s, Colter and Jennings nearly divorced due to his addictions to drugs and other forms of substance abuse."
sneric401 ::::::::::: Don't believe everything you see on wikipedia,,,,,,,plus if you where a country fan , you would have known that hell or high water couldn't have separated those two. As far as the song "leather and lace" goes, it wasn't worthy of Waylon & Jessi anyway,,,,it isn't even country,,,,,,,but you're right about one thing. Had they recorded it, it would have been magic alright.
I'm a fan of some country folks, Waylon and Jessi among them. Wiki isn't why I thought they were broke up. It was that old Stevie interview and the fact that they didn't record the song even though the album bares it's name. There's no doubt they loved "Leather and Lace" and there's no doubt they intended to record it and have it be the title track to the album. If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. Plus Stevie is from Az. same as Jessi and is a closet country girl at heart.
@susicyq .....Well I'm 70 now susicyq and sadly feel most of it, but I still like Waylon and Jessi.....I love this song, brings back memories when I was 30 or so.....
@susicyq They are also screwing up bluegrass maybe I should be glad I,m 73 maybe I want live long enough for the new generation to screw up the world OOps too late rebelrandle
@susicyq - I am not to far behind you better not slow down or I just might pass you up, you probably look as good or better than ever.
I have always played this song for years when storms came my way and I always felt a little better after. Thanks for paying tribute to Waylon and Jessi, from a famous duet album as or better than Tammy and George’s album. Both are little gems for music lovers, I call it country soul music yeah real soul music…..thanks again.
Beautiful song from a classic country couple! Jessi and Waylon could harmonize like soft velvet when they performed together. Glad I clicked on this video! Thanks for uploading it!
This is truly the story of true love, for those that love each other to the end. The is a lesson to be learned in this song for relationships to last. Just love it, thank you so very much for posting.
I was to see Waylon down in Tucson but he had emergency surgery to remove his foot. Jessie Colter is one of the most beautiful ladies I have ever seen! I would love to meet her one day and tell her face to face! Then I would love to hear some good stories about her life with Waylon. God bless you Jessie and Waylon I sure hope you are resting in peace.
I will be 40 this year and when I grow up I want to say that in my lifetime this hard road has led me to find the love of my life just like Jessi and Waylon. It may not have always been perfect but you got it right in the end! God Bless You Waylon and rest in peace.
